Its not like laugh out loud funny but it has its moments. The girl pretty much carries the whole movie but pretty much everyone acted great in the movie. Good for a drama/comedy.

I found it to be an okay movie.  It's a 7.5/10 from me.  The first half dialogue was pretty disturbing for me.  Eventually it changed, which leads me to believe that it was Diablo Cody's intention to show Juno becoming a woman.  If that was the case, then fuck it good job and my rating increases to 8.0 lol.  The most interesting character for me was Jennifer Garner's, and she played that role really good.  I thought that would have been a more interesting movie.  It also needed more Michael Cera.

^ what i liked about the movie is how it switched roles between the husband and the wife. at first you're like " the wife is a BITCH, the husband is cool as FUCK" but then later you find out that the husband is really a creepy Pedo and the Wife is just desperate and you end up feeling for her.  i thought that was an AMAZING subplot. It could have used more michael cera but then again , the character was meant to be quirky and quiet so i don't know how well that would have worked stretching out his role with more "awwwwkward"  dialouge.

It needed more Michael Cera because I didn't feel that the relationship with Juno and him was developed enough to care about them at the end.

It was a good movie.  It was crazy tho, it was filmed in my girlfriends old neighborhood.  She said she used to walk to that Honey and Milk store all the time.

Pretty much. It got a lot of hype just because it was a little different, and because it was a smaller studio release and it gained all that attention. Overall, it entertained me, a good movie to watch with your girl, because it's funny enough for guys to sit through, but it's still a "chick flick".

Really?  Juno seemed like the type of girl that would just find Napolean Dynamite weird as fuck.  The only awkward person in the film was Michael Cera, and he was just like that because he likes Juno.  Juno is basically a hipster that matures, while Napolean was just some random geek.

I never said they were the same type of character...I said the vibe and feel was the same.
Title: Re: Juno
Post by: Javier on March 21, 2008, 05:06:36 PM
The vibe and feel mainly come from the characters and writing style.  It's not similar, like El Duque said they just have the indy thing going.  The film Juno has a hipster feel to it, you can't say the same about Napolean Dynamite.
Title: Re: Juno
Post by: Don Jacob on March 21, 2008, 10:02:23 PM
i can KINDA see the comparison between the two movies because:

they have that idependent feel to it
they both speek to the same generation (where juno keeps on the pace with the audience's maturity  level)
they both have quirky characters

however JUNO i think at the end of the day is a warmer movie. you walk away from that film moved and it forces you to think a little bit more because of it's strong story. where as napoleon is just a funny movie about the random quirks of some geek.

Like I said, it has a quirky vibe...you can't say it doesn't with the way the relationships between characters was developed. It's VERY similar to "Napolean Dynamite"...and it also has the dull feel to it, as well. I've seen many indy films, and they aren't all the same like you're acting.
Title: Re: Juno
Post by: Javier on March 22, 2008, 01:57:30 PM
"Quirky vibe" is pretty vague.  I never said all independent movies are the same.  Juno is just another indy movie that has gotten a shitload of money like Little Miss Sunshine, like Napolean Dynamite, etc.
Title: Re: Juno

Quirky vibe is pretty self-explanatory...I don't see how you don't get what I'm saying.

Post by: Javier on March 22, 2008, 05:09:01 PM
I'm not going to go in circles with you, if you really believe that okay then.  The quirky vibe comparison wouldn't fly in a film class.

LMFAO...Okayyyy. You're the only person I know who bitches about opinions. You're right though, I think I'm convinced...The dialogue in this film was stunning. Nothing quirky about it at all. It was just like reality.

I never claimed that you're pulling shit out of your ass either.  You're seriously overreacting just because I'm asking you to defend your statement basically. I'm here trying to have a normal debate, then I decide that since we're going in circles I'll just stop...and you come in the next reply "laughing your fucking ass off" and say that I'm bitching? What kind of childish shit is that? Not everyone is out to get you.

You're the one who said that my analysis "wouldn't fly" in a film class, when I've personally taken film classes and know for a fact that my explanation was legit. It's an opinion...what the hell do you mean it wouldn't fly? LOL. You obviously don't realize that you act very condescending when people have a difference of opinion in regards to movies.

If in a film class they tell you to compare two films, and you come up with a vague answer...they're going to ask for an elaboration.  "Quirky vibe" can be attributed to thousands of films, literally.  I actually went into specifics about the overall "vibe" of the film.  Juno has the hipster vibe going on, and Napolean is nothing like that.

If someone were to say that "The Matrix" has a kinky vibe to it like the movie "Secretary", would that work as an answer to a comparison? If that person really believes that about the Matrix and Secretary then okay, but we have to keep in mind that not all opinions are safe from being judged right or wrong.

Obviously, what I said was agreed upon by other posters, so just because you didn't get what I meant doesn't mean that it doesn't make sense. It may be a vague analysis, but it still applies. When I say quirk vibe, I assume it's self-explanatory to anyone who saw the film. The cold, suttle relationship between characters had that "Napolean Dynamitesque" feel. I don't see how you consider Juno or her boyrfriend "hip", to me they're what geeks are made of...and the odd couple, they were "hip"? LOL...The way the dialogue played out was just very reminiscent of "Napolean Dynamite", and no, there aren't "thousands of films" out there like that...PeACe

Killay Tay just agreed on this, "It got a lot of hype just because it was a little different, and because it was a smaller studio release and it gained all that attention".  He didn't even see your comment about the quirky vibe.  Don Jacob said "KINDA".  That's beside the point, I mean El Duque agrees with me on the point Killy Tay made.  So if we're basing our argument on who has more people on their side...I have two vs your "KINDA" agreement.  Either way, it's irrelevant.  You're confusing hip and hipster.

Just saw this for the first time.  I thought it was a very good movie.  I do agree with some of the previous posts that the relationship between Juno and Michael Cera's character could of been developed a little more but overall I thought this was definitely a good movie.  Jennifer Garner was great but like some of you said Ellen Page (Juno) really carried the movie,  not taking away from everyone else because I thought everyone did a great job acting in this movie but Ellen Page was just flat out amazing,  really good movie.
