"I feel like Cassius Clay right before he took down Liston," Nas said a couple of weeks ago in New York. It's almost time for the release of his album Nigger, and he even teased us by dropping a couple of lines from the album backstage at the Hammerstein Ballroom before a recent concert."Ay, yo, Queens get the money, n---as still screaming paper chase/ But presidential candidates ... ," he began reciting, the first time any media outlet has heard lyrics from the upcoming album.
"But the new album, man, this is an important piece for me," he said. "I'm proud of myself for doing it and taking it on. It looks like Black History Month [February] is gonna be the month to drop the album. If not, it comes when it comes. But it'll be here soon — soon like right-around-the-corner soon. It's not gonna be a waiting-for-a-long-time type thing. I'm blessed to be in this state of mind I'm in to do this music. ... I love what this whole thing is all about. I'm working with so many people. It is a lot of people I'm working with: Puff, Jermaine [Dupri], some underground cats. Some surprises."
Maybe he'll be working with Snoop Dogg again. The Dogg — who appeared on Nas' last album, Hip Hop Is Dead — supports Nas' concept behind the controversially titled new album. "I'm down with you, Nas," Snoop saluted. "Call me if you need a verse."
Another West Coast legend, Ice Cube, is also down to collaborate with Nas. "I'm totally open to working with him," said Cube, who has the first great song and video of 2008 with "Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It." "I just got back in town, I'm looking for him to reach out. I think me and Nas are, in a lot of ways, mirror images of each other. We try to make street knowledge and connect the streets with the politics of today. That's always a challenge. If we don't get together [on his album], we gotta tour together." ...
There's no contest, according to Snoop Dogg: He can sing way better than his close friend Diddy.
"Right now, I got Puffy by a couple of notes," he smiled. "I think Puffy can just sing alto and tenor. But I can sing alto, tenor and soprano. I can sing any note."
Snoop's singing on "Sensual Seduction" has won everybody over, hands down. It's the first single from his next LP, Ego Trippin', due in March.
"There will be a couple of more songs where I express my R&B feel," he described of the album. "It feels good and sounds good. It's no stretch. I've always been singing melodies and riffs, but never no whole song. I've been making all kinds of songs, but I've never done anything like how I done [with 'Sensual Seduction']. I'm trying to mix it up and bring a variety of different looks [on the project], but there will be those type of Snoop songs you love."
The new song was written and produced by Shawty Red, who's most known for his work with Young Jeezy. "I initially wanted do a record where it's just based on me," he said about his original concept for the album. "But through the time making this record, I have a few guest appearances on here. The Ego Trippin' part is that I have allowed other artists to write songs for me. 'Sensual Seduction' was written and produced by Shawty Red from Atlanta. I usually don't accept songs from people. I do my own writing. I usually be ego tripping. [On this album], I'm trippin' to a certain extent, but I'm not."
The Dogg names producers Pharrell Williams and Teddy Riley as the LP's main contributors. "Pharrell is always going to be involved with what I do," he said. "Teddy Riley had the music game in his hand for 12 years straight. He knows how to create the atmosphere for a great artist and a big event. I feel like I'm a big artist and keep my albums in the classification of a big event. For me and him to work together, it's gonna be like Quincy Jones and Michael Jackson working together on that Thriller album." ...

listen at 2:15 An ego trippin track?
-
I'd love to see Nas and Cube collab. They are both saying very important things that Hip Hop needs to hear. Snoop on the other hand? It's like he totally flipped on what he was initially saying. Ego Trippin was about him, and how no other rappers could do an album by themselves. Now he's saying he was ego trippin by not collabing enough? What the fuck? And how corny is a title "Sensual Seduction". I'll give it a listen, but Snoop has never been the dude that knows how to do an album. He needs somebody constantly coaching him and telling him his shit is wack when it is.
I do think it's interesting to have Teddy Riley in the mix. But he is an R&B / New Jack Swing producer way more than a straight Hip Hop producer. Outside of Rumpshaker and No Diggity, I've been disappointed w/ a lot of Teddy's Hip Hop production. But I'll be real interested to hear what he comes up with.
And Puff has been really grindin lately, workin with Jay, Nas, and now Snoop.

dam that would be dope to see cube and nas drop a track 8)

-
what's not to love?
The album
-
man it sounds like its gonna be a dissapointing album.
Probably one of his worst albums.
Probably 2 or 3 dope tracks though.
-
Man..Cube and Nas...its a tragedy that they still haven't collaborated...and I don't consider Grand Finale as a song they did together.
-
Not a big Collab buff..myself
I'm old school when an artist could hold an album alone, but Nas & Cube 8)
Let's see what they can do..

Great news about Cube & Nas but Snoop :-\
-
DAMN we need that cube & nas collabo :o
-
Teddy Riley on board and mixed by DJ Quik...nuff said!!! shit should be great since they are Both Musical Genius..as far as Snoop singing...shit aint new
-
DAMN we need that cube & nas collabo :o
Remember Luna, I was saying this for a remix on Cube's album. I think that collabo would be fire. Add Scarface too.
-
Teddy Riley on board and mixed by DJ Quik...nuff said!!! shit should be great since they are Both Musical Genius..as far as Snoop singing...shit aint new
Quik is just mixing the album? I would rather him do the beats than this Riley dude Pharell is OK :-\
-
ppl are complaining about snoop's album and it's not even out yet lol they heard 1 track and ALL of the album sucks lol ;D and i almost forgot cube and nas? omg! that would be so dope!

Cube and Nas is the dope news! 8)
Snoop doing an album with singing is not! :-\
One track is enough Sexual Seduction!

just turned 21, nah I heard of him but don't know much about him :-\

I don't care if snoop's singing on this project. how r u guys not excited? TEDDY RILEY? what's not to love?
what's NOT to love is obvious...
since he's already added R&B/New jack swing king Teddy, wak pop ass pharell, why don't he add Vanilla Ice&Hammer?
Fuck it as long he put out some "Eastsidaz"&"Bones OST" type of albums in between his pop albums,I'm cool
thats what Im sayin hes doing for the sales I guess he can do whatever he wants cause hes Snoop but I liked his last album better than the Rhythm and Gangsta
-
Teddy Riley/Neptunes/Rnb/singing Snoop...:P
Bout time Cube and Nas record something savage on a collabo.
-
I hope Quik produced some songs at least coz mixing ain't making a HUGE difference (unless you got some very top notch stereo) .. now if by mixing they heard additional production that would be better ..
-
I don't know know what to expect of this album... I'm starting to think this album will have like 4-5 good songs. I know DJ Quik will have a major involvement, but I don't think anyone can save a song with Snoop singing on it :-\
You dont know Teddy Riley? how old are you?
just turned 21, nah I heard of him but don't know much about him :-\
[/quote]
He was a member of Guy and a member of Blackstreet. On the production tip he's one of a kind; a legendary producer.
-
Yeah, Teddy Riley is a real dope producer, where were you in the 90's? New Jack Swing homie!
I don't know what to expect from Snoop but one thing that I've learned it that he is unexpectable.
IMO it doesn't make sense to say "It's gonna be like..." as each Snoop's album has it's own universe and doesn't sound like the previous one.

snoop´s done.

SOMEBODY LOCK THIS FUCKIN THREAD
Back on the picket line after the holiday break, and it feels like the first day back at school. People are happy to see each other. Everyone is refreshed and rejuvenated, and spirits are high, despite the fact that it’s 6AM and seems to be about 14 degrees outside.
It’s hard to believe that it’s already Day 64 of the strike. It’s been 31 days since the AMPTP walked out of the negotiations, and according to a widget at unitedhollywood.com, the AMPTP’s refusal to negotiate has already cost the LA economy over $665,000,000 dollars. Thanks, gloomy widget.
Every person that straggles in today is greeted with a resounding “Happy New Year” from the entire crowd. People cheer and those of us who thought ahead toast with our travel coffee mugs. The turnout is impressive. My friend calls me from the Fox picket line freaking out. “There’s like two hundred people here!”
Carrying the picket sign feels foreign to me. It’s like I have to teach myself how to walk in a circle for several hours all over again. In no time, however, I’m starting to feel like my old self. Ahhh… There’s that familiar back pain. Within fifteen minutes, I’ve got all my moves back. The “Good Morning Cars, Nice To See You”, the “Single-handed Twirl To Slightly Raise or Lower The Sign”, the “Sign-Shoulder Siesta”, the “Brother, Can I Get A Honk?”, and the advanced “Hey! Look At Me! It’s Like I’m Rowing A Boat!”
Around 7, a huge group of Warner Brothers security guards walk into the studio together. They greet us like old friends. People talk about what they did on their vacations, and several of them show off their new red shirts, red hats, red gloves, red jackets, and red scarves that they got from Santa (or from Hannukah Harry). I also got a really nice wool cap and scarf as a Christmas gift, but I’m an idiot, and I left them at home.
I wish I had more coffee. Not because I need more caffeine, but because I really want to be holding something warm. I wonder if there’s some way to replace the sticks on the picket signs with some sort of solar-powered heat sticks.
Just as the sun starts to rise, it gets noticeably colder. Someone claims that there’s a scientific explanation as to why this happens. It’s the same reason that it gets warmer just after the sun sets, and it sort of makes sense. We immediately nickname the striker “Mr. Wizard”, and marvel at the snow in the nearby mountains.
Somebody asks me if I’ve been growing a strike beard, and I realize that I haven’t shaved in two weeks. I tell him, “No. I’ve just been really fucking lazy.” I also tell him that I stopped trimming my nose hair when the strike began and that I’m not going to trim it until the producers give in to our demands. If this goes on long enough I should have a pretty nice nose-beard. Or is that nose-stache?

Seriously...hip hop isnt supposed to be about the beats...the beats are supposed to come second. Now cats only care about who's producing, you could have a 2 year old on the mic for all they care.

dope shit

When the eastsidaz get out from scene, snoop came with bullshit... But he go back with the last album and maybe Ego Trippin' is gonna be cool too. But nuthin' came like the Eastsidaz this dayz... This group was the G-Funk, better yet, his last breath.

This album is turning out to be really gay.

He can do whatever, like you said in one of the Bishop threads,
you don´t really look forward to reformation because that will probably be some pop bullshit. (if Pop Mobile is any indicator).
As long as he/they gives us some Caltroit (Snoop; eastsidaz/Bones OST) type of projects in between the pop bullshit I´m straight.
true; but with snoop, even with the so called "better" album, there is still too much bullshit on it. i mean, if he claims to go back to hits roots(these claims are a joke; it's cool to use your first album for motivation but don't lie) , then he shouldn't brake his promises. for bishop it's a little more difficult, but snoop doesn't have that label politics problem. i believe he's with geffen now, but he still has his own label.
sure, every snoop album at least has a few dope tracks(imo), but i think he should stop trying to please everybody; cause the results will always be the opposite of what he had in mind.
i also think he's too dependant on other people's coaching.

So should Snoop.
-Snoop DOGGY dogg = Gangster
-Snoop Dogg = POP
-Snoop = Hip Hop

I also think he's too dependant on other people's coaching.

Then Snoop announced;
I like to welcome my BEST friend, mentor and coach to the stage....
EVERYBODY stood up,expecting Dre to do a suprise cameo..... who was the fuck that came out on stage?
Non other than wak ass :puke: Pharell :monkey_piss:... EVERYBODY (at least I did ;)) sat down

no i was actually referring to Dre & The D.O.C. Pharrel is definitely not on that level ( the beat for Vato is dope though, but that’s an other story )
by the way, nice move at that concert :D

I'll give it a listen, but Snoop has never been the dude that knows how to do an album. He needs somebody constantly coaching him and telling him his shit is wack when it is.

But Snoop is trusting Pharells ears and words these days.... :P :-[ :-X :-\
The Vato beat is tight, the beat he did for N.O.R.E (what,what,what...) was tight too.
Other than that :P :-[ :-X :-\ :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X

yeah that's fucked up. like i said, he needs other coaches ;) otherwise he'll go ego trippin' (Big Snoop Dogg) :D
-
I still support Snoop but IMO Pharell Williams is dragging him down. The last album Snoop released without Pharell is Tha Last Meal... I guess that everything is said... However TBC is pretty dope to me and Vato's beat is kinda nice.

IMO, Paid Tha Cost wasn't a bad album.
After that, Snoop just hasn't been the same on his solo albums.

Those guys will have their songs on the album, but they aren't the only ones.

Yeah Quik is working on it,but where´s his head these days? in DJ Quik or in Quik (fixxxers) state?
Terrace,ok he´s straight. But it´s Teddy and Pharell that´ll take big bulk of work. (according to the article).
Quik is on point. I've been in the studio with him.
He had little involvement in The Fixxers music and did it to give AMG shine.
-
Snoopy is going to make a cool album....

I love music. If music is good, then I listen to it.
exactly. Im 24, and I dont need to hear Snoop rap about guns and busting caps for me to enjoy it. Snoops already done those types of albums. Ill wait till the album drops to make judgement. But as for now, it sounds good to me. Hopefully Quik, Pharrell, Teddy Riley and whoever else produces come with some dope tunes for Snoop to make a fresh album.
-
Also, I dont know how people complain about Snoop and Pharrell making music together. To me, Snoops had the best flow over Pharrell/Neptunes tracks over the past few years. Vato, Chuuch 2 Da Palace, It Blows my Mind ect, Snoop rips all those tracks. Even Beautiful was for the ladies but he still sounded dope and the flow was definatly on point. When Snoop raps with that up-tempo flow and he gets in the zone, nobody in rap sounds better IMO.

yeah but don't you agree with me Styles that snoop should stop trying to please everybody on each album?
i'm not saying he should try to re-create Doggystyle with every new album; he can do different things and still keep it true to his roots. but just take a look at the blue carpet treatment, don't you feel like some tracks seem out of place? that's what's probably going to happen with the next album as well.
-
As I said before , I don't mind having these producers on the album .. the 1st single beat is really funky , this is just Snoop vocal performance which is horrible .. if Snoop is singing , half singing or rap with a weak "effortless" flow on the album then fuck it
-
ill judge the album when i hear it not from a damn article...ooo yea teddy riley is a legend and he's just as good as quik wit the talkbox
-
im fearing another R&G

yeah he is..but don't nobody really remeber that
-
this is getting funny though...Dubcc gets the same type of discussion everytime a new Snoop Dogg album drops. People keep asking for Snoop Dogg to go back to his roots or his Doggystyle days, but what if those days are over for him? what if talking about Gangbanging or gangsta shit is not being real for him? Lets face it..Snoop Dogg never been a Political type of rapper and Gangster rap do not last long, so the other route was to go with The Party & Bullshit he is known for, a real fan of Snoop Dogg will realize that Snoop Dogg is larger than Rap, he likes to experiment stuff, so it shouldnt be a surprise. Instead of bitching about it some of you should chill and enjoy the music, and be happy that it will be something new, as for the hate on Teddy Riley...I think Kids will hate because they do not know him at all or they were too young to regonize his work...Yes Teddy Riley is responsible for Queen Pen and that No Diggity Track.. but he also played a Major part in Michael Jackson's Forth album (Dangerous) I think I'll do an update on him later on. but yeah my advice is...see Snoop as Music Superstar... the Gangster Rapper in him is dead since 2002.
-
