Post by: E-L-P on January 16, 2008, 10:28:45 PM
Just got back from an advanced screaning of Cloverfield. I wasn't too impressed. I would give it a 3/5. I'd save your money though.

The monster has long legs like a spider or crab or some shit, a long tail like a lizard, and looks like a dinosaur at the same time. And it drops little monster creatures that look like spiders and go around biting people.

i saw it tonight with some guys from work, and thought it was awesome

it wasnt the usual monster movie showing you how scientists try to work out where it came from, how the military plans to take it down, etc.. it shows how every day people would react to a big ass monster fucking up your city. for the most part, they got it on point.. but i woulda got the fuck outta town a bit quicker than they did

I saw it today and i thought it was wack. It was like 'Blair Witch Project: New York' lol I wasn't the only one who felt like that, the other people in the theatre were either booing, or their faces were like this  >:( or  ???.

Very well done movie. I don't know why people disliked it so much, I had people booing in my theater lol. It had a Blair Witch feel to it, but I thought it was very realistic, and the actors had realistic reactions to what was going on. I think most people disliked the abrupt ending, but I thought it added a lot of mystery to the entire movie. It definitely gets you talking about it just like the trailer did when it first came out.

I was a happy camper. The only thing I find hard to believe is that a dude would go through all that trouble for a girl he fucked, then again, there's a lot of desperate people in the world, so who am I to argue lol.

SPOILER:

Did anybody else notice at the last few seconds of the movie after Rob & Beth die, they show footage of them at Coney Island. Well when they're looking at the water, you can see something crash land into the water at the right side of the screen.

I thought it looked kinda like a cross between "Alien" and Gollum, except much, MUCH bigger.  It looked nothing like that picture in any way that I could tell.

like siko said , i really enjoyed this movie and i thought they did a very good job with it. i mean it's not a classic, but it's not bad like Godzilla . in my opinion the ONLY flaw is the monster is a littler corny lookin, but there's so many more pros to this movie i think it's good you go out and see it. i had a couple of KIDS boo at the end of this movie theater i saw it at but, it was cuz it ended unconventially (no room for a sequal with the same people, that's for sure)

about the monster

shit looked like  a cross between: (http://www.mwctoys.com/images/review_bramdrac_1a.jpg) and (http://www.jillithe.com/Images/evilcrab.jpg)

i think they used  HPLlovecraft's cthulhu monster as inspiration

If anyone REALLY wants to spoil the secret for the film:

MAJOR SPOILERS

http://youtube.com/watch?v=NkS2GuqQHVg (concept art - NOT the one that other cat posted of the whale-like thing)

http://youtube.com/watch?v=j9qWFMJ8vHI (footage from the film)

Contrary to what people will tell you, there's actually a good view of the monster from the air (filmed by a news helicopter and seen on a TV) seen fairly early after it attacks, so the suspense of trying to figure out what it looks like doesn't last that long.  You just don't get a good look at its face until the very end.

at the end of the movie/credits people say they here something...some dude on a radio saying "its still alive"

Plus that one chick survived o their could be a sequel...plus all that viral marketing about sea bed nector and slusho and shit has to do about something

when they're at the brooklyn bridge and hud is filming the statue of liberty with no head etc.. there is another guy who is also filming, and hud and that guy film each other for a second or two. matt reeves did an interview saying if they did a sequel, it would be something like that.. so do a movie of the same attack but following a different group of people this time

hell no that is what makes the movie so good... if you and your friends were running away trying to live and shit how much explanations would you really have? seriously think about it.... did you want a scientist to magically appear and start explaining where the monster came from and how to kill it etc etc?

i thought it was great as it was.... fools running and trying to live while they happened to have a camera on them.... good film

It leaves a lot to the imagination, that's what's so great. That is why people will be talking about this movie for months to come.

We are so used to finding out the entire plot based off the trailer so that we can determine whether or not we want to see a movie that we don't know what to do when there is actually some secrecy held within a movie from start to finish.

it's a good point, but if there's no payoff to such things, as a fiction reader/comic book reader/sci fi fan it really is not worth it for me. the trailer just strikes me as so pretentious that if it's not paying those seeds off then it's kind of like 'fuck off' you know?

anyway, can someone show me full real images of the monster?

i think it's not trying to be a sci fi movie though. it's ASSOCIATING with those genres for SURE, but i think the people behind this movie are trying to go in another direction that hasn't really been explored and treaded through that at least two films do every summer. lol.

Nah, it was way more reptilian-looking than that.  I stand by my earlier description...very slim, graceful profile, sorta like "Alien" except not spiny, walked on its knuckles like Gollum, face somewhat human but with amphibious membranes on its ears.

Wow I can't believe people actually liked this.  I want that last hour and fifteen minutes back, what a horrible, horrible movie.  Their is not one thing I liked from this movie, absolutely absurd that they would go all the way in the other direction so Rob could try and save Beth who he just slept with once LOL and the monster looked absolutely ridiculous,  O-V-E-R-A-T-E-D movie, in fact it was pure garbage.
