Title: Joell Ortiz Not "Dropped" from Aftermath?
Post by: Styles1 on January 17, 2008, 01:24:32 PM
This was taken from Illseed's column on AllHipHop.com today:

JOELL ORTIZ – DROPPED? NAH, B!

Dunno if you've seen the reports of Bishop Lamont saying that he believes Joell Got dropped, but what I have heard is that’s a misunderstanding. Sure, there are people that get dropped from Aftermath. But Joell Ortiiz isn’t one of them. From what I heard, he was really a bit tired of waiting and getting acclaim, but seeing no forward movement.

Joell formally requested a  release from Aftermath. I heard Dr. Dre really didn’t want want to let him go, because he likes Joell. From what I hear, they both had a man-to-man conversation and they agreed to go their separate ways. I think it was a case where Interscope wants Detox and Em’s next CD before anything and anybody. That means another year MINIMUM for anybody else barring a 50 Cent-type rapper.

Joell didn't want to wait, I am hearing.

The release isn’t even final, from what I heard and Dre will be on the upcoming album. I even heard Joell will still lend his writing to the Detox CD, which will yield excellent publishing dividends. From what I hear, Joell will continue to be quiet about this for a minute.

Looks like Joell beat them to the punch. If you're gonna get dropped, why not leave first??

I remember a video or something awhile back where Joell said he didn't plan on sticking around and that he was tired of waiting on Aftermath.  So makes sense that he finally got fed up and asked to be released.

what i dont understand is whats so hard about putting out multiple projects, as if aftermath is unable or not allowed to put out more than a couple of projects within a year. sure there's big releases when something does come out but the idea of signing more and more new artists should be to EXPAND a label and put out more music. its best that joell is off the label before he becomes another lemon over there. you hear about stats album being really good and fresh but that was over a year ago now. is dude ever coming out? seriously...

yea

all them producers on aftermath and they can't drop nuthin?

aftermath's problem is that they think everyone they put out is gonna be the next em or 50

not gonna happen

joell and bishop are gonna get screwed into ghostwriting detox for $$$ but then gettin none of thier own shit just like hitmann and knockturnal
