The New Jersey Nets are in serious negotiations with the Dallas Mavericks and Portland Trail Blazers about a blockbuster three-way trade that would send Jason Kidd to the Mavericks, league sources said Wednesday afternoon.
In the proposed trade, Dallas and Portland would send the Nets a package that includes the Mavs' Devean George and Jerry Stackhouse and Blazers forwards Travis Outlaw and Channing Frye and guard Jarrett Jack. Mavericks point guard Devin Harris would be sent to Portland. Along with Kidd, the Nets would send reserve forward Malik Allen and center Jamaal Magloire to Dallas.
The Nets would also receive at least one future No. 1 pick and cash. Other players could be included to balance the exchange of contracts.
The Record (N.J.) first reported Wednesday morning that the three teams were in discussions.
League sources say that Nets president Rod Thorn has been working the phones relentlessly since Kidd went public on Monday with his trade request. Thorn seems determined to get a deal done soon and may be looking to completely remake the Nets. He also has been dangling guard Vince Carter.
Kidd, 34, is making $19.7 million this season, and has one year left in on his contract at $21.4 million. Kidd The addition of Kidd could make the Mavericks sudden favorites in the West, where they have had two straight heart-breaking playoff runs and currently have the third-best record in the conference.
Everyone gets screwed except the Mavs

Don't like this trade too much, I mean George and Stackhouse can go fuck themselves, but why Devin Harris? Niggas got upside and quite unique skills. And why Magloire when you got Dampier and Diop? I'd send Terry or Dampier over Harris on any day.

I wonder what happens as far as the all-star game goes if this goes down.
-
^that's what i was thinking.
in a way i hate this trade but it's kinda fitting that Kidd retires on the team that drafted him.
-
doesn't really make sense if u ask me
-
Kidd just needs a chance to win although id hate to see him in the west
-
WTF, horrible trade for new jersey and portland, dallas is giving up NOTHING.

Devin Harris would be great for Portland, but the Blazers do not pull the trigger if Outlaw is the price. Outlaw is damn near untouchable right now, and it doesn't hurt that Outlaw is Roy's favorite Blazer.

Portland would be dumb to trade Outlaw ... Kidd can be the winner mentality player Dallas needs , would improve the perimeter defense.. its risky to give up Harris who has a bright future for a 35 year old player but imo Dallas is one player away with a leadership mentality to win it all so Ill pull the trigger .. Portland has to try to include another player than Outlaw.. if they can their starting 5 would be crazy ..
-
Stackhouse would probably be bought out... he would probably re-sign with the Mavs then. Good thing Devin Harris is injured right now, the young nigga would be distracted as fuck when playing during those rumours.
-
this deal won't happen, portland would have to be dumb as fuck to let this happen, specially since kidd would be coming to the same conference.

Jason Kidd in the West does not matter for Portland because Dallas with or without Kidd will not be a contender by the time Portland starts making serious runs in the playoffs. Kidd is 34 right now. How many more top tier pg years does he have left in him? I'd say 2 at the very most. Like I said, Portland does not do this deal as proposed, but what better player for the Blazers is there to trade for (realistically) than arguably the best defensive pg in the guard heavy Western Conference? Also take into consideration that Harris is just about the same age as the players on the Blazers and has a ton of playoff experience for a guy his age, something desperately needed on the Blazers. portland would not be dumb to let this happen, they would only be dumb to give up Outlaw to make it happen. portland is in a position of strength in this deal since they probably need this trade to happen the least out of the 3 teams. Dallas and NJ are going to need to make it worth the blazers time to facilitate this deal for them.
-
well, its being reported that the deal is dead now. Oh well...looks like we'll have to bank on Chris Paul opting out in 09 or being able to trade up in the draft for Rose. Kevin Pritchard is much more of a draft day trade guy anyway

Devin Harris sux. All he has going for himself is speed.
-
LOL...the Mavs had to lose even more, because Portland backed out.

yea being one of the best defensive point guards in the guard heavy west sucks.
