No way. I can list 10-20 free kicks better than this one, out of memory. C'mon. He's probably the best player in the world at the moment, tho'. No doubt. But don't exaggerate.

It isn't top 5 of all time, but it isn't a basic free kick neither.  That swerve is impressive if a a guy would have kicked it with his left foot, but Cristiano did it with his right. He scored on a free kick that's usually set up for lefties.

Dude I fuckin hate the guy.

But to hit that from about 25 yards out with that pace and direction, getting it up and down is spectacular.

Usually from that range you would have to either choose power or accuracy but he managed to pull off both.

Definately in the top 10 of all time. Phenomenol set-piece.

I understand it. I mean in the UK they probably celebrated it, it was in all the news, you guys thinks it's something never done before.
But that FK is NOT all time top 10 material, sorry.
I still remember free kicks by Zico, Maradona, Platini... this one can't touch them. Shit even recent shit by Beckham, Roberto Carlos, Juninho, Mihajlovic, Del Piero, Ronaldinho...
Great FK tho. Very very impressive. But i've seen a lot of more impressive fk's.

Don't get me wrong, i'm not hating. It's just my opinion.

We've had many discussions on here Antonio but I'm surprised that you can't realise how special a strike that is to be honest.

Each to their own I guess.

Like I said earlier, I dislike the boy but I respect his talent.

I pride myself on believeing I know a lot more than most football fans about specifics of the game and that goal to me is quite special when you break it down.

It make not look like much, it's not as easy-on-the-eye as Roberto Carlos' freekick in Le Tournoi but in my book it's a wonderful set-piece.

I mean absolutely no disrespect to soccer fans, but I just don't get the appeal of it. To me its one of the most boring things to watch, moreso than even baseball or hockey.

Man IT IS wonderful. Don't get me wrong. You just went too far by saying it's Top 5.

its a great kick. but its never a top 5. or 10. or 15. i mean. its against portsmouth. its the 2-0. its in the 12th minute. and the angle isnt that hard.

The fact you used that as a reason to degrade this free-kick makes me never want to speak to you again.

lol. i mean. if it were against arsenal. in overtime. and its a winning goal. then it would be top 10. now its just a great kick, against a team ranked 9th. not a rival. nothing wrong with portsmouth.

I know what your getting at, like many people say Rivaldo's overhead kick against Valencia is the greatest goal ever,
just because of the circumstances around it. In any other game its a fantastic goal, but because it was in the last minute, because it was his hat trick, because it got Barcelona into the champions league and pretty much saving them huge huge financial losses, it is legendary.

But i think goals like that should be put into different categories than just flat out great goals, even though in the long run this goal might be "meaningless" that doesnt take away from the quality of the goal. How many times do you see a free kick like that hit against the wall? Or sent flying over the bar? 9 and a half times out of 10. Like Mac said to get it up and back down, straight into the top corner where the goal keeper has no chance of reaching it, is truly world class.

It's like he said. CRonaldo is playing awesome, and this free kick is probably the best goal of his season, a season where he's playing like nobody.

But a good free kick taker can make a goal like this one, if he gets a chance. I'm a Juventus fan. Look at this goal done by Del Piero last season against Inter.

http://www.youtube.com/watch/v/5FQvJCrTL-0

It's basically the same. From the right side to the right corner, with the right foot. Just a little bit less spectacular, maybe. Cause it was a friendly. It's just an example. Man i've seen Platini, Zidane, Baggio, Del Piero... all those players playing for Juventus. I've seen - trust me - a lot of great free kicks in my life.

This one is another goal done from the right side to the right corner with the right foot. THIS SEASON, SAME PLAYER.

gotta second that though. Nearly any Juninho FK wipes the floor with Ronnys.

It was at the end i sit at. I watched him run up strike the ball and before i could turn my head and glance at the goal, the ball was already in.

At half time my bro text me saying he thought it was the best free kick he had seen, i wouldnt go that far but it wasnt until i watched on tv i realised how good it was.

That is probably the greatest hat-trick ever. All the goals are class. I could watch that winning goal all day.

All i could do was laugh at that man, ridicilously brilliant. The swerve on that second goal? And I actually forgot just how immense that third goal was, hadnt seen it in a while. I definetely agree with the greatst hat trick ever.
