It's just down to taste
-

-
Why ain't West Coast artist goin back to tha G funk sound???????
because its 2008...
-
because G-funk is not "hot" anymore in the mainstream.
don't worry, there have been plenty of g-funk albums released during the 90's, you just have to search for it to collect them all.
it isn't easy, but you can consider it as a form of therapy to solve your problem ;)
-
Classics can still be made 2008 don't need to get albums from the 90's G funk was way ahead of it's time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
G-funk was the one of the best sounds I have ever heard. It was one of the main reasons for why the West was on top. They should still produce that shit man.
-

thts what i do! :D

Music evolves, and thus so should West Coast hip-hop. G-Funk belonged to the 90's, so I think it's normal for New West producers to try out different kinds of sounds. Hell, it might even be g-funk influenced, whatever works I'd say!
There are still some artists nowadays who make that G-Funk sound. XL Middleton to name one. Dude's got some dope albums!
-
If ANY artists does G-Funk, west coast critics will say that artist is stuck in the past. Other than Dre & DPGC and Warren G, most other rappers would get criticized for it. At the end of the day the artists needs to believe in what they doing and just let the cards fall where they may.
-
Big D puts yet another thread in that has never been discussed...( same topics get recycled sometimes, actually, all the time) You're 2 for 2!
AGAGAGAGAGAGAGAGAGAUH!
-
Because it's old and boring.
-
because g funk is dead.
-
fuck g funk, thats a done deal, its over, that sound doesn't exist anymore. More niggas out here need to be on that misson to find a new sound!
-
because people now days would rather listen to stuff thats on the radio. IE: rihanna, chris brown, solja boy, t-pain
-
Fuck that! We want G-Funk, the rap industry became with the Funk and it's gonna die with the Funk!!!
I'm boring of that all fuckin' bullshit comin' with these R'N'b singers who talkin' allways about luv and doin' the studio G'z by playing with money on video clips. They don't understand that they are talkin' about luv not gangsta shit! That's why some of them make me crazy!

lool In the past Internet doesn't exist do you remember?
Now I can talk with every people of this world and if you don't like that, just don't go to a forum where people can explain are opinions.
-
Don't worry we doesn't gonna speak french allways and we are not talkin' bad about you. Peace.
-
i fucking love g-funk tracks from the 90s.
if you want g-funk, just check out any battlecat produced tracks, he still makes g-funk.
BTW, if you want a dope azz g-funk album from start to finish, cop:
Conversationz - The Twinz
BEST g-funk album ive heard.
and for some reason, the track Groupie by Snoop feat. Nate Dogg & The Dogg Pound comes to mind.
get the shit i mentioned and youll be aiight for a while 8)
-
why do artists not go back to the disco sound of the 70's?
fuckin retard
-
Hey Big D, the guy who responded above me always throws hatred at folks in here ...His monkey-ass name is "Westcoa$t...
Westcoa$t , didn't I tell you to tell your mom sorry about the stretch marks I left around her mouth...You needs to crawl back in the toilet you popped out of 'fo I whoops that ass..Get at me, son..
-
G-Funk is probably my favorite subgenre of hip hop, but I agree with many other people, it's a 90's phenomenon, artists these days need to create their own sound. Besides, there's plenty of great g-funk albums from the 90's that should keep you occupied if you like that sound.
Also, no surprise that euros would be into G-Funk, considering that they're usually about a decade or more behind in music hahaha.
-
Give me a laid back beat like Xxplosive ANY day over most of whats put out today. You can keep searchin for that new sound, imma be over here in my house shoes, khakis and locs, with the homies chillin. If you say that's in the past, then call me old fashioned damnit.
-
I think G-Funk had its heyday. Not to say a artist cannot use that sound and still not be successful. Like someone said earlier XL Middleton is a good example of a dope artist that adds his own unique twist on G-Funk.
-
while we at it..LETS BRING BACK DISCO!!!!
-
Fact is, it had it's day. For the early G-Funk sound, that is waaaay outdated....you can only sample Roger n George so many times. For the 2001 sound, it still appeals to some of us, but music has to evolve in some way..and some of us will love it, some of us will hate it.
Look at the other regions and states...Florida came out with Luke's sound, and now their biggest hits are tracks like "Low" from Flo-Rida. Thing is, this beat doesn't sound much like Luke, but it is the same tempo, and has the same vibe. For us, we could make songs that have the same vibe and tempo, but for them to have the same exact sound as G-Funk would be archaic.
-
LMAO. Did someone bring up Crunk? Haha. Crunk isn't even big anymore.
People really need to get over G-Funk. The South updated their booty music sound and look at them now. The East updated their boom bap break beat music and look at them now. The West never updated their sound (without push back from their fans) and look at where they are...
Realize that every thing progresses. The West Coast wasn't born on G-Funk. It merely blew up on G-Funk. So, if it was able to update once, let it update again. Damn... Some people just hate letting go.
-
Wow... I was just thinking about this. I used to love g-funk music, like, more than a decade ago. Today it just sounds so old fashioned. I heard DJ Pooh's 'Bad News Travels Fast' for the first time this week and it sounds so fucking bad. Of all hip-hop genres, g-funk is possibly one of the most dated-sounding now.

In opinion some people (kids) just discover it, so its basically new to them
-
there is some element of some Gfunk on "Dogg Chit" if you listen to tracks like "Where U From" with Bad Azz one of the doper tracks on that record you will recognize it but a whole album of G-funk I don't think you will see that again
-
For "Dogg Chit" I saw that, this album is a little G-Funky, that's why I like it.
The west is not like what he was because all the good artist are goin' to disapear, they are to old. G-Funk is G-Funk, but Crunk is not kind of music! Cryin' like a fool, that is just for the club but for the people who want to listen some good music with good lyrics it's not a big thing.
But listen what you want to listen. Just know that the Latinos are still in tha' G-Funk in the West, like Mr Criminal for exemple.
If they doesn't do G-Funk anyway so where are the good beats like Xxplosive on Chronic 2001 these days, we got only bullshit with people cryin' on it. The song on the soundtrack of Carlito's Way "shake your booty" are better than all these fuckin' Crunk songs to let a girl shake her booty.
If the dolorean exist, let me go with Doc & Mc Fly in the past lool
-

The "old artists" are dissappearing. The GOOD artists are still around. Take a listen to Omar Cruz, Ya Boy, Cylde Carson, Big Rich, Game, Bishop Lamont... to name a few. The good artists aren't gone. The good artists just aren't getting the support from fans like yourself.
Your english is pretty bad, but we've already had the discussion about G-Funk vs. Crunk. Lets not have it again. But to ever say something like "Cryin like a fool, that is just for the club but for the people who want to listen some good music with good lyrics it's not a big thing." Is the SAME, S-A-M-E exact thing people were saying about G-Funk when East Coast cats were hating. "Aw man it's just music to ride to. Smoke to. It's that's gangsta shit. They don't care about lyrics. That doesn't matter!!!" Fuck outta here...
LMAO @ Latinos are still in "tha' (who the fuck uses Tha anymore?) G-Funk in the West." Last I checked, Mr. Criminal, Capone-E, etc. are not all the Latinos on the West Coast. Sick Jacken don't sound like that. Cynic don't sound like that. Omar Cruz don't sound like that. Javie Lopez don't make beats that way. Rome don't. I can go on.
Why the hell do you keep bringing up Crunk? There's not one major Crunk song out right now that I can think of. I haven't heard a Crunk song be a hit in a VERY long time. Crunk is taking a new shape already...
-
Now in France "soulja boy" is blowing lol Soulja Boy is not doin' Crunk? this man is a Bullshit.
lool ok that's the SAME for G-Funk and Crunk but 2Pac was doin' G-Funk and did some song with theme about society etc... (and probably many rappers did the same thang)
But now the only thing I can say is where is the G-Rap. I don't like these Crunk Beat they make me crazy.
-
Soljah boy does not make Crunk music. get ur facts right
and the main reason some artist are stuck in the same "g-funk" type of vibe is because of The Fans that are stucking them, asking them to stay true to their sound and stuff.
-
Crank n' Crunk is not the same thang?
-
Crank Dat Soulja Boy is a dance. Cranking back is like pulling. It's not meant as a slang for Crunk.
This man is a bullshit.
-
lool okay I thought it was the same thing.
I'm down with you it's a Bullshit, but the people who listen Souljah Boy in France doesn't know what he is talkin' about... And they doesn't wann listen what I say when I'm talkin' about lol
-
Why ain't West Coast artist goin back to tha G funk sound???????
because its 2008...
CHUUUCH to that!
Plus the sound we got is the shit already and it's only a matter of time til we get our crown back!
So you mean Terrace, 1500, THX, Dae One, Amplified, D1 etc. ain't doing a good enough job?!?
-
i said it before and i'll say it a 1000 more times muthafuccas on here swear it's still 1995 hahahaha. you make what you like,if a equal wants to do one of those type of traccs cause it fits a mood fine, but to be stucc on that shit all the way through equal is you crazy hahaha, why don't you just pull out your old classics and bump that shit and roll. and instead of just smoking and dranking on the porch with yo house shoes on,how bout you educate some of these young equals in the hood growing up with no role models. i swear if obama wins, i bet 7 and half months in office, these so called real/street niggas is gonna start calling his a sellout since he don't act like them hahahahaha,"WE STILL SHOW OUR ASS AND DON'T LIKE TO READ/WE DONE ATE CHICC'N AND WATERMELON DOWN TO IT'S BONES AND IT'S SEEDS/YET HAVE THE NERVE TO ASK FOR MORE WHEN KNOWING IT'S NOTHING LEFT/IT'S TIME WE MAKE A CHANGE OR FACE DEATH" NET MUTHAFUCC'N WORTH YELL
-
G-Funk was a dominant sound for about 7-8 years. Up untill 1999 when Dr. Dre released 2001. After that, it was just time to move on.
Stop crying like little babies over a sound that's out-dated these days. There are hundreds of G-funk albums, and now there's a new sound. You can NOT use the same music all the time. Everyone's sound changed, including the East and Down South.
There is still plenty of good music coming out the West, and the g-funk influence hasn't dissapeared totally, you can still feel it on many songs. So just open your minds and don't get stuck on one type of sound.
-
Because it's old and boring.
You really dont mean that. 8)
-
lol This man think he is 80 years old.
Bootsy Collins still doin' funk in 2006 and I like his album ^^
-
I like the G-Funk Sound but i'm also open to the new shit. The problem that I have with this new music in Hip Hop (crunk or hyphy) are the beats. The producers just only use a Drum and a bassline. Where is the melody? Okay, sometimes it is really cool but in Hip Hop exist a whole subgenre like that.
Todays West Coast music is in a really bad situation. There is no innovation to bring a new West Coast Music Genre.
And to all the producers out there: Don't go with the mainstream! Change the mainstream!

honestly what was so innovative about g-funk? you took off the p in p funk and replaced it with a g?, did it sound good when it was done right hell yeah, that's just like any music. but we put to much on shit when it "blows up in the mainstream", i say bang music that just sounds good, and again if you an artist and you doing a album and it fits into the theme make that type of joint. paint pictures with yo shit yell
-
Man, I wish I grew up during those days...and on the right coast. Suga Free, Xl Middleton, Foesum, Warren G, DPG and others are still turning out good things tho. I don't understand the hate. Safe + Sound, The Chronic etc still sound fresh and way ahead of their time. Will Soulja Boy last? NOPE. Can U Werk Wit That? NOPE.
