Toshiba has halted production of HD DVD players and recorders and is close to making a decision on whether to throw in the towel on the high-definition movie disc format, Japanese public broadcaster NHK reported Saturday evening.
-
I really don't see why they would want to waste more money. They need to throw in the towel and just start making Blu-Ray Players.
Like I posted the other day, with Wal-Mart going Blu, along with most other retailers, this was just a matter of time before HD-DVD died.
Hopefully this will drop the prices of the movies 5 or 10 bucks, still more than DVD's, but paying 30-40 for a movie is a lot for most people.

considering that i have a ps3 its good news...but on the other hands does this mean since blu-ray owns the market, they can charge even more ridiculous prices?

I would think that more people own regular DVD players than Blu-Ray players right now, so it would make more sense, at least to me, for Blu-Ray to lower its prices to encourage people to buy.

They don't give a fuck - Microsoft is all about digital delivery. They only sided with HD DVD to drag out the "format war" on purpose.
The people who bought HD DVD players - for them, this truly sucks.
Oh well. I couldn't give two fucks which one came up on top, as long as just ONE would eventually be the next format. It'll be a long time before DVD moves over.

yup, I wouldnt even be surprised if microsoft came out with a blu-ray player add-on for the 360 just for movies, probably wont come out for a year or 2 but I could see them doing this since blu-ray is gonna be the future format.

will some mod ever delete auto play shit this is completely retarded, the one who put it up in this topic is a fuckin asshole and i would kill you if i saw you
-
i already have my blu ray player hooked up with my xbox so i'm cooooooooo 8)
-
i got an xbox a few weeks ago and the news on the HD format war doesn't really make any difference. i bought it over the ps3 based purely on gaming considerations. woulda been nice to have a HD player to use over HDMI but for now i'll continue to download HD films until blu-ray drives/discs are dirt cheap ;] they'll prolly do an add on that can be used with the xbox and pc like the hd-dvd drive...
-
there's blu ray drives for pc's already, and they're not that bad on price. i think for 199.99 you can get a 8x drive. for an extra Ben you can get a 16x

Good lookin Javi!!!

Blu-Ray = swag
Seriousley though I think hd dvd's look pretty much the same as Blu-Rays picture wise but only 1 of them could win, really sucks for people that invested alot on the hd dvd players, I got my hd player and hdmi cables for $155 so I dont feel that stupid about it but definitely happy I have a ps3 now.
