The New Orleans Hornets reportedly will bolster their bench with the acquisitions of guard Mike James and forward Bonzi Wells.
The Hornets reached an agreement with the Houston Rockets early Thursday morning that would send James and Wells to New Orleans in exchange for guard Bobby Jackson, according to a report on the Houston Chronicle’s web site.
Citing “individuals with knowledge of the talks,” the Chronicle reported that Houston also will receive rookie guard Adam Haluska and a conditional second-round draft selection.
According to the report, the deal is pending league approval and also could include minor involvement by the Memphis Grizzlies. The deadline for NBA trades is 3 p.m. EST Thursday.
James, 32, will make approximately $11.7 million over the next two seasons and also has a $6.5 million player option for the 2009-10 campaign. Wells, 31, has an expiring contract worth just under $2.3 million.
But the Hornets (37-15), who own the best record in the Western Conference, evidently are willing to take on additional payroll in order to counteract the recent deals made by the Dallas Mavericks, Phoenix Suns, Los Angeles Lakers and San Antonio Spurs.
I checked realgm's trade checker - doesn't work. New Orleans probably has to include someone else. But once again, the top West teams just keep getti nbetter >:(

Along with Bobby Jackson, the Rockets also got Adam Haluska and a 2nd round draft pick. The Grizzlies also sent out Sergei Lishouk to the Rockets and got Marcus Vinicius and Malick Badiane in return.
