now, i know that everyone in the world in here knows about all the southern cali rappers, but what about those hip hop heads up north? i'm from northern cali and when i was in high school, no one really listened to that down south stuff, besides 2pac. all we used to listen to was the northern cal boys, like:
4-tay
JT tha bigga figga
too short
e 40
brotha lynch hung
x raided
rbl posse
dre dog (andre nickatina)
ray luv
i don't know if any of ya'll listen to any of these guys, but if you don't you should try and pick up some of their older albums. so my question is, if any of you guys know a lot about these artists, what's your favorite songs or albums by them....i know that they all have at least one CLASSIC album
-
what up foo
you ain't alone outhere.
Eastbay is in da mothafuckin house
i just had to add a couple to your list:
MAC MALL
LUNIZ
DRU DOWN
SPICE 1
RICHIE RICH
DIGITAL UNDERGROUND
-
Oh yeah i forgot
i personally don't think that southern cali got more rappers then we do, it's about the same we're pretty even Oakland and L.A. both have their respect in rap music through out the country.
FROM BAY TO L.A. WE ALL FAMILY
-
whats bubblin folkerz.... im from the soils of northern cali myself. i bump L.A. shit to the fullest , ever since i heard NWA and ice cube and then dr dre the chronic album there was no turnin back. to me it seems like bay area shit has been in a slump the past few years.
i remember 415 richie rich group was puttin it down back in the day , and then RBL had that Lesson to be learned album followed up by that classic Ruthless By LAw album. then mac mall put it down with Illegal Business , and u had too short who has been puttin down since day 1. it seems lately though the YaY has been makin their presence felt.
Mac Mall new joint is knockin and Yukmouth new one is tight too. JT startin to put out shit regularly as of late too. When Mr Cee died that really hurt RBL as a group . Black C hasnt really been able to keep the group as tight as it was. Hitman is coo and all but it was sad to see Mr Cee get fucked like that , he was a fuckin talent who was just as dope as anybody else lyrically. and i aint just sayin that cuz he is dead , thats real talk.
anyway my personal opinion is that Southern Cali will always have shit on lock cuz theres more quality producers (dj quik dre battlecat mel-man and so on) but as far as artists the bay and l.a. is about the same. its some bullshit to see the YaY get ignored like it is , its coo from a fans standpoint cuz we all bumpin str8 underground shit. but i wish more cats would get recognized nationwide.
too short yukmouth and hammer are really the only cats from the bay to be recgonized nationwide. E40 is nationwide but alot of muthafuckas diss him.
shit that im lookin forward to is the new GLP album , their last one Family Business left me thristy for some more.
anyway keep bumpin that goldenstate shit
Peace.

Too $hort is the man. peace-Tanjint
-
Yeah some foolz frum tha bay get down..... I think tha Spice 1 Hits album iz TIGHT... if you aint got that shit... better get it ;)
I'm from southern cali though... I relate more to tha Southern Cali sound and that's what I usually bump... still give props to them rapperz frum tha bay though...
Peace Out 8)
-
man i cant stop bumpin some luniz shit at the moment
"isss it cooolll toooo fuuuuuccccckkk?"
lol....dope ass group...
-
man i think the bay/northern cal had shit on lock back in '96, they were droppin heaters left and right. 40 water, richie rich, luniz, c-bo...
now tho i personally think a lot of bay rap is stale and not going anywhere. production especially is really stagnant. Those new albums from b-legit and Richie rich for example were really bad when u compare them to their old work.
i still listen to a lot of northern cal shit tho, mainly that sac-town shit like Lynch, C-Bo, C-Lim, etc etc
(PS: Is mac malls new cd any good? i thought IB2000 was DOPE so i want some more shit frum him, should i get the new one or his older shit?)
-
Hell yeah the new MACMALL cd is fuckin tight
and the BAYAREA PLAYAZ 3 is a pretty tight compelation too. specialy that track by
Sean T.& MOG
"lets Get in da hottub and fuck
bitch i gotta get my dick sucked bust a few nuts"
that song got the tightest beat. i love beatin that shit out when i'm blazed & cruisin
-
Thanks Raider I'll check those out. good lookin out
-
yeah i'm feeling you guys on that 96 shit. all the albums that came out the bay in 96 were hot as fuck. i think any album out in california in 96 was hot too. i think a lot of that bay shit has been lacking good production too, even though i think e 40 has always held his shit down as well as too short, and that's why their such big names. but has anyone ever listened to dre dog or the coup? i think that dre dog is the epitome of an underground star. just about everyone i know owns at least ONE of his albums and no one even knows what the fuck he looks like. and the coup released that album back in 94 called genocide and juice, and that was just another great bay album. some other guys, i don't know if anyone has heard of are called rythm and green, i saw them as an opener for xzibit, you guys should check them out.
-
yeah...ill definatley check for them......

ya'll remember when master p came out he was talkin bout northern california, representing fremont and vallejo over here. now all he talks about is the south.....fake ass bastard. at least when he said some shit bout cali, he still maintained that he was from the N.O.
yeah, rhythm and green are tight as fuck. they opened a show for xzibit here a few weeks ago and i thought they were off the hook. remember them back on richie rich's shit? way back when

Hey, JTPlatnum said the only SoCal boy he listened to was 'Pac, but 'Pac was outta Oaktown. Remember him with the Underground on All Around the World, and the Underground was present on Strickly For My N.I.G.G.A.Z. and on Fuck the World on Me Against the World. 'Pac's style was from Oakland between 1991, his debut, and 1995, right before he signed with the Row.
Oh and don't joke on Hammer, he may have went pop, but he was cool. He signed with Death Row after Funky Headhunters and was suppose to come out with an album with Death Row with Snoop and fellow Bay superstar 2Pac. But things didn't fall through, but from what I heard, he was the only one that visited Suge regularly in prison. Suge got him outta debt.
One more thing, what about The Whole Damn Yeys best producer, Ant Banks, what y'all think about him, and his T.W.D.Y. album, released on Thump Records, a Mexican lable in SoCal. Nothin' but love though for Ant Banks, and the whole bay in general. Oaktown in L.A. should hook up, after all if the Raiders can be the team of both cities, why can the artist hook up and rep westcoast to the extreme fullest.
-
And what about The Whole Damn Yey anyways
-
sorry but i think that twdy shit was wack, ant banks has really fallen the fuck off, his old shit was soooo much better. now, all his beats just sound the same in my opinion
-
so do any of you like any of the guys from my last post?
-
yeah i know pac is from oaktown, actually marin to be exact, but he wasn't reppin there in his deathrow days....he was reppin "westside", which most people would understand as "LA" and that song that he did "to live and die in LA" kinda strengthened that assumption.
yeah, that's my bad, i forgot about the big badass ant banks. i didn't really listen to his stuff that often, i remember i bought that gafflin season cd and thought it was shit. and that other one 'big thangs' was shit too (i thought).
yeah, 11-5 is pretty hot too. i got that a-1 yola shit, even that 'fiendin for the funk' shit was hot.
-
Fo sho Im a big big Lynch fan, Loaded gets a lot of play in the late night.
I like Mr Doc too, didnt feel bombay as much but i like his style and ill be checkin for his new cd this tuesday.
