anyways,their shits dope... 8) 8) 8)
"How you think the streets get flooded wit guns and knifes and crack
Us blacks ain't got the type of machinery to deliver that

it's true that the recipe seems to have been lost... Maybe it's because of the evolution of the production tools (I don't know but I suppose)

That might be true. Right now beats are more focused on the drum, bass and percussion, and everything has to be LOUD as fuck. G-Funk beats had harmony in them, thats what made it all so laid back. Nowadays you barely even hear chord progressions in hiphop beats.

8) agreed.but
some beats are good too.

Times have changed. Hip hop isn't considered rebellious anymore. The message is different.
-
You guys are insane... there's plenty of good new rappers out. But times have changed and the old formula just doesn't work anymore.
-
Times have changed back then cats wasnt having shoe deals and shit like that. This shit is big business now. The art form has been lost to a certain extent. Make whats hot or u dont eat plain and simple!!
-

^Exactly.
We can't do G-Funk or any other type of old styles anymore because they had their place in the music timeline. We can't just continue to try & bring that sound back over and over in hopes of it being popular because nowadays it has no chance. Especially with the South being hot as it is, they don't need to be tight on the mic like 10 years ago. All you need is a dope beat & a catchy hook, and even a dance if you're gonna go that far, and you'll sell ringtones & get a lot of spins. The West has to come out with another type of sound that will be catchy and so far it's working. Producers like Dae One, Diverse, Focus, Amplified, Chordz, 1500 or Nothin still do West Coast style beats but they are updated and have a style of its' own. If given a chance like Cube, Snoop, etc. to get enough spins, people who have no idea who they are will want to hear them more.
Plus with rappers like Glasses, Mykestro, Roccett, Problem, The Bloc Boyz, Bishop, Taje, Bangloose, Dubb, etc., they have a good chance of blowing up as much as the newer artists are in the South & the East if given the right push. I'm hearing "Toe Up", "Certified", "Grey Goose" etc. being played so at least they are getting spins. It just takes the rest of us here on the board to spread this music around & give it support by texting/voting these songs to the radio stations & television networks to get them play & show that they are in demand. 8)
-
I agree but there is just to much politrix out here on the WEST! We hate on eachother to much! You got the blood and crip beef you got the mexicans and black going at it. It's always been that way. If Suge wouldve done right by his empire death row would have been the biggest thing ever in hip hop music history. Oh well that another story.
-
It's amazing how most of the posters here are stuck in the past .. you should rename the forum "dubcc , westcoast music from 88 to 96" .. I agree that era was classic but it's DAMN time to move on ... how can most of you say the new rappers are ALL wack when I'm sure you have barely heard songs from them ...
-
You guys are insane... there's plenty of good new rappers out. But times have changed and the old formula just doesn't work anymore.
and new formula doesnt work too
all theyr projects are always in "upcoming", i see a lot of interviews , a lot of words and no album as always
i mean , these new singles of Bishop , Glasess, damn it's all minimalistic songs , nothing of special compared to single of other rappers
i think the only new rapper good is The Game , the rest is so so wack ,it's no Hate i just dont like

What do you think created this enviornment though? A lot of the old stuff and old ways of thinking. Re-building after destruction is never easy and the news guys don't have it easy.

HERE'S THE TRUTH,WE LIKE MUSIC FROM OUR ERAS THE MOST,BECAUSE IT'S WHAT WE CAME UP ON,SHIT THAT MADE US LISTEN TO HIP HOP, that'S why is some cases i can't get mad at folks who came up on "just mostly gangsta shit",that's they shit AND IT'S WHAT WEST COAST PUSHED MAINLY IN THE FOREFRONT,i'll admit the message was way better in the music, plus it offered more variety then today's music, but still these new kids just getting into rap is gonna like what they see andhear on tv first,as we did, and not think about the past cause they feel this is they music and "not that old shit", hell late 80's rap fans, got a lil mad at james brown and them when they said them rappers was stealing they music and not really being creative (TALK'N ALL THAT JAZZ BY STETASONIC "tell the truth james brown was old,to eric and ra came out with i got soull", alot of west coast fans who came about in the 90's still act like west coast rappers wasn't do no dancy and would be pop shit today, like la dream teams in the house!!!,or even admit that the gangstas was bump'n epmd whole album, steady b use me etc was that shit the gangsta's perfered, or even before that the fat boys had the hood on smash with they funny raps over some shit that was considered gangsta traccs bacc then. shit is facts, and also realize the top spots for rappers on all four coast with upside or plain popularity is game - west coast, lil wayne - south, kanye - mid west, juelz santana - east coast (upside potential) yell
-
agree
-
i disagree the beats have actually evolved
samples are too repetitive for me im glad that era is over
-
how can most of you say the new rappers are ALL wack when I'm sure you have barely heard songs from them ...
HOW can you be sure i've barely heard songs from them ?
but you feel super cool after a comment like this one i guess ::)
-
im glad that era is over
::)
-
^^
what do you like about sampling so much?? if you still like it.. go live on dj premier, madlib, kanye west, alchemist, havoc those guys are still heavy sample based producers
music now is much better produced and engineered frequency wise , and effects also that era of gangsta rap had its time .. now everythings evolved so much .. about the only thing i dislike about this era is the simplicity of the lyrical content .. cuz i can still remember bumpin the wake up show, and kurupt calling out cappadonna on stage at the unity show when wu tang came out here back in the 90s way before the internet era.. but blame JAY Z he started that.. his lyrical shit was never tight however his flow and subject matter got him where hes at right now
-
also that era of gangsta rap had its time .. now everythings evolved so much
sure ::)......and all these new rappers are CRISTIAN rappers
-
lol oh so u wanna hear that bang bang bang im from sony lap top compton crip ill stab you with a spoon! shit
thats coo i had enough of that shit personally i just wanna hear good muzik with talent of course.. theres plenty of artist infact the market is so oversaturated with gangsta rap ever since 2pac its just boring now unless u have a multi-dimensional artist like crooked i
-
you talk about these new rappers like they're different.....when the truth is they aren't
-
back then u could sample like a mufuka now you gotta replay shit new cats ain't talkin nuttin' these days back then there was alot of shit to talk ya dig
-
there is more emphasis on word play now elano then there was back then thats from an RAP SINGERS prespective and im not just speaking on NEW west rappers im saying in GENERAL .. thats how rap stuff has evolved... with a double time spit/ inheriting a dirty south country tone and slang even if you grew up in the city and didnt talk like that or werent from around there! shit like that
-
What do you think created this enviornment though? A lot of the old stuff and old ways of thinking. Re-building after destruction is never easy and the news guys don't have it easy.
A lot of these 'new' guys bring nothing new to the table. That's not even so bad, but it is bad when 95% of em suck. You can say they don't have it easy, but that's none of the audience business. Step your game up!
-
Unlike some people here (I am aiming at nobody), I don't really care about the gangsterism of the lyrics, but I would like to hear some melodic instrumentals again, which actually occurs somes time but not too often.
And a lot of new WC cats are getting big, from the top of my head: Young Maylay, Shade Sheist, Problem...
-
agreed.
-
the problem with these new cats is they dont have this signature westcoast sound to them they beats sound like eastcoast and downsouth ripoffs cuz evrybody too hard tryin to go platinum and gold and focusin on makin records that appeal to a brighter audience, but thats bullshit if u ask me!! I say go back to makin these dope ass records for what the westcoast is known for havin fun havin a good time in the studio and knock these records out which appeal to the westcoastfans cuz im 100 % sure if u knock out a bangin ass record with nothing but bangers on there which could be considered a classic people will automatically buy it cuz these fans love these classics!!! U dont even need a fuckin video on mtv cuz the record promotes hisself via word of mouth! U wont do these crazy numbers in the first weeks thats logical but i think on the long run good records will never be forgotten and people still buy them after years so...just my 2 cents

That's what Cold 187um/Big Hutch told in his interview, I gotta say that I back his opion 100%

i agree 200% with you.
for example....the G FUNK is a west coast sound, not the only one but one of the biggest styles of the west coast, why is "dead" now ?
even warren g is far from that sound now (and his new song,'virgin',is wack). I don't know why there isn't an evolution of this genre :(
-
well, we have not seen one of these new west rappers blow up as of yet, i wonder who will be the first? if any.. Of course, we have to define blow up.
-
few artists like Scrooge, Holy-D or Jayman still stick to that former sound I love but the main releases today aren't original enough IMO, like G-Funk and Gangsta from the 90s were ... That's why I can't listen to the late Westcoast music. Comparing Eastcoast & Westcoast raps, I'd say Eastcoast hiphop today is closer to the Golden Era Flavor than Westcoast hiphop is ( listen to the last KRS One LP, it's off the hook or even Ghostface Killah... awesome )
peace

I think that the new rappers are actually pretty dope. G. Malone, Game and Bishop you can tell give mad props to the west, and G. Malone is so westcoast it's unreal. His beats maybe more mainstream, but the guy has skillz and his mixtapes pay honor to the past.
Its over, I loved the 90's, I'm Cali born and was in Jr. High/High school during that era. Listening to Power 106, I use to have Big Boys first day with Power on tape, and I loved 92.3 the Beat, and growing up I had Snoop and 'Pac tapes on the release dates. I'm as west as it gets, but I saw the downfall of it too, artist like Shade Sheist and Knoc-Turn'al I thought should have came out, gone triple platnum and carried on the tradition, artist like Ras Kass and Crooked I release would release this 5 mic classics and the west would rise again. It never happened, and the west is what it is. I love G-Funk, I love the rough gangsta rap sound. But the rest of the public ain't paying it, it's in the past, and it's time to move on. It's time to support artist like Glasses, like Bishop, and Game, and help them carry the tradition.
-
Oh yeah... this right here is that old west classic
http://www.youtube.com/v/nrVCRQd1ugU&hl=en
-
ANYWAY, TIMES CHANGE, THINGS EVOLVE, MUSIC EVOLVES, RAPPERS EVOLVE,
i don't "see" an evolution on the west coast music....
-
^^^
the beats have defenitly evolved , what do you guys see differently sonically in the beats??? from back then and until now
-
they are good but i been sayign this people need to have patience and im talkin bout the rappers they release so many damn mixtapes that's ridicolous by the time u release ur album peopel will be bored
and it's different with game because he was labeled as brinign the westcoast back and for am intue he did but it fizzled
why?
becuase nothing has changed still the smae old gangbanging chucks khakis white tees and cortezz's and lowriders ain't nothign changed so peopel are bored of it
-
the loss of several producers from the west is also the reason too. for me its just not rappers. producers hav a big job on them too.
-
here's something else, muthafuccas pay to much attention to the clearness of traccs, not even thinking about the lyrical content,me i always peep out what a muthafucca is saying, shit ain't got to be all cdq for a muthafucca to know that artist is nice or if he's wacc, plus stop naming just 3 muthafuccas hahahah broaden yall scope, and stop acting like only them 3 or what not is dope, sticc to being fans instead of a&r's, that goes for all of us,who ain't looking to sign a artist!!!!!!!, and cats say this new cats ain't knot, get outta here with that, cats can put up a couple of ill traccs from all these artist that you can't front on,stop wanting them to sound like your favorites, and again admit that the worst started out on some fergilicious type TRACCS!!!!!!, hahah again i know we like what we want, but when you want to make a legit gripe you got to list the facts BE HONEST
"while we sit and bitch, the south's get'n rich
while we reminisce,the east is work'n on a new sale's pitch/
the mid-west is put'n out different type of artist
while we on the west only bump those claiming they the hardest" yell
-
THE PROBLEM WITH THE WESTCOAST IS THEY NEED A SAVIOR (hint) 8) AND I TYPE IN ALL CAPS CUZZ AINT NOTHIN I SAY SMALL!
-
all these new rappers sounds the same, and jesus christ the music :P
-
