i just read this on raptalk.net from an industry insider. apparently def jam have signed him to do a new WC & The Maad Circle album, could be big IF they promote it right, what y'all think?
-
hmmmmmm i will wait and see if i believe it....i really dont like def jam.
-
if gives a fuck if you dont like def jam. Its all about the muthafucking music. Shit now his album will be easier to buy, so this is good news.
-
me neither Ham, def jam plus west coast talent usually equals bad business, bad promotion, and bad sales (see: Jayo, Richie Rich).
Swoo is right though, if they dont fuck up it will mean very good things for Dub
-
As long as WC keeps his good raps, flow & keeps it gangsta, I dont give a fuck who his under.
Thou if Def Jam want him to sound like LL Cool J & the other bitches on that label then they can get fucked
-
yea i heard this a few weeks ago so its probably legit
-
damn swookillah u take shit too damn personal on this board...u gives a fuck if i dont like def jam??.......
like i really care what u give a fuck about......my point was...
Def Jam has Fucked over every other WEst coast artist!
i dont care how big def jam is......what have they done for a west coast mc?
-
i gotta disagree there Hambone...
i mean, they probably helped peeps like Jayo sell a lot more records than they would have otherwise.....
but besides that....i see this Dub C situation like this-
"Criminally underrated west coast emcce signs for major hip hop label with endless promotion money and worldwide distribution"
how can that be anything but a good thing?
-
i respect that crem........
just that they need to prove what they can to with a west coast artist.......they havent proven that yet...they helped jayo..but they couldnt of helped him more......his last cd was bangin........in my view..they werent pushin him as hard as they were pushin dmx and others.....like meth and red man............
they proven they can push people like fuckin foxy brown......they need to push WC.....i go by past performances.....i am happy if he is with them....but....what have you done for me lately.......
-
and warren G, was really hot back in the day..and they had all that money and distribution and it still didnt help him....how many times have dmx released cds..and meth and red.....from the jayo interviews....they looked like they were dickin him around....i like WC...his last cd was bangin......def jam is abart of Universal now...so..if they can push people like cash money...i am sure they can help wc....but to what extent is my point...
-
Remember Warren G sold 4 million records on Def Jam, so i guess they can do good for a west coast artist if they work at it.
-
and who else besides warren g?
-
exactly nobody else, i agree they haven't helped their west coast talent, but im just saying they can, its not like theyre signing the best coasts artists just to dick them around.
and another point, rich and jayo both sold more while on def jam than any other time in their careers, just thought that point need to be made, even though i didnt like the way those artists were promoted, or rather non-promoted.
If they do a good job with WC though, i might forgive them :)
-
heres the way i see it....
def jam went from being the greatest hip ho label by a mile to being a wreck of a label pushing faggot ass club music....
...and i think the reason that their west coast artists havent sold as much as shit like foxxy and LL is because they have refused to sell out on some "tunnel banger" shit...not because Def Jam have neglected them....
I think Dub C will sell more records on Def Jam than he would have otherwise....but i still cant see him going double platinum or no shit like that....cos he simply aint the type to come on no taylor made Hot 97 shit.....you know?
and New York cant handle a lot of that harder west coast shit (no disrespect to ny cos im an ny native myself)
-
that shit is fucked up how they cater to the NY...and shit.......i always wondered with that Jayo song..Watcha gonna do.....if he was told to make a song like that..or if he wanted to.......cause he had dmx and meth on there...straight bangin.....
and yeah......def jam needs to prove themselves...they can do it if they wanted to...like any major label could..im sure.....
only time will tell........
-
I really like WC, he is the best of WSconnection for sho. What happend to his album "Ghetto Heisman" that was supposed to drop ages ago? I can't wait to hear more music from that niia!
-
what i liked about his raps.......he made some of them funny as hell...like going to a party on the wrong side of town..and gettin his azz beat..but them gettin away.....and the beats were Bangin.....Crazy Toons..is a underated Producer also......like everything..i think he just had a fall out with his record company.........
probably why cube..is movin towards movies...gettin away from the record industry bullshit...
-
Why dopesn't he sign to some other popular lables...I'm sure there are many other lables besides Def Jam who are willing to take him....

Oh course there are other labels willing to take him. But Def Jam has a track record for selling gold and platnum on just about every album. Signing to def jam allows him to release a record without it going unoticed.
