Title: Doggystyle has no meaning
Post by: Jay ay Beee on April 19, 2001, 11:23:15 PM

i am as big a fan as anybody of this album (Doggystyle)but buying Outkast's Aquemini at the weekend made me ask "What is Snoop saying on Doggystyle?" His lyrics have no political meaning, no feeling, I just had to get this off my chest what do you think
Aquemini is the greatest album i've ever heard - buy it

that's the beauty of it i think...if all hip hop was political and what not every thing would boring , he's not really talkin about nothing becuase it's basically a party album and just straight flowing/story telling

That's what I say Too! I feel its a great album, one of the greatest, but it has no meaning. When I say that Tha Last Meal is a classic people just laugh, but when I say Tha Last Meal is a classic I mean it has meaning, it has some personal stuff on that alubm, Doggystyle is great, but it's a party album...

I love meaningfull lyrics!

At the moment with Hip hop I'm llke:
Doggpound - There my boys - party with them smoke with them

Outkast - Thinkwith them , contemplate

This is what Aquenimi did. I mean I thiught Snoop was untouchable as my fav rapper but now Andre 3000 is on level pegging.

Synthesizer is one of the greatest songs I've evr heard

Aquemini Is An Amazing Record.

The Actual Song "Aquemini" Is One Of The Dopest Songs I've Ever Heard!  My All Time Fav. Andre 3000 Line Is

"Aliens Can Blend
Right On In
With Ya Kin
Look Again
Cuz I Swear, I Spot One Every Now And Then"

From That Song.  It's A Good Dope Album.

Tha point to DoggyStyle was to put Long Beach and tha rest of that West Coast G funk on tha map..... to add what N.W.A left out of Gangsta Rap.... well that's how I see it..... Snoop's DoggyStyle came more real than N.W.A did

& this "meaning" in rap lyrix dont jus have to be political n shit, ya know... it could also be social, personal, n shit.. like 2pac.
what pisses me off most about rap iz how so many famous people jus talk about bullshit in all thru an album and they still go on like gay shit in poeple from no limit, cashmoney, bow wow, etc... i mean its good for a song, but the rest of the album dont have to be so monotonous

Doggystyle was meant to be the first album to really talk about being a "gangstar" Where as NWA and The Chronic went on about polital stuff Doggystyle was just about being a "gang member" in other words the joys of weed, killing other gang members, guns, and women

Doggystyle has alot of meaning, just not universally. Like the chronic, it's a manifesto of a politically incorrect mentality. And Dogg Pound has some meaningful songs, even doggystyle does, (Murder Was The Case is VERY meaningful) and OutKast has some party Jams/meaningless shit too (call before i come) but that doesn't take away from how dope shit is.. i know you weren't saying it did but im just sayin,peace-Tanjint

"The Chronic" was very meaningful, it came at a time when the LA riots occured.  This sort of fueled the album.  Songs like "The Day Niggaz Took Over" were based on that.  The whole album was from a gangstaz view point, how they lived their lives.  Dre displayed it to America with his songs, "Nuthin But A G Thang", "Lil Ghetto Boy", "Standed On Death Row".  It was very powerfull, and meanignfull.

I love Doggystyle and I do think it is classic but how is it alright to critisize people like nelly for putting out a party ("commerical") record yet doggystyle is a party record in your eyez and you guys look at it as a classic.

Because Doggystyle's a GOOD Party Record.. LOL.

If Ya Think About It, Wouldn't It Be MUCH Harder To Make A Party Record That Actually Came Off With Some Weight Then It Would Be To Make A Political Record?

I Don't Mind Nelly's "Ride With Me", But His First Song Was Ridiculous.

"Doggystyle" and "The Chronic" were political, in a way, but in a laid back way. However, The Day The Niggaz Took Over has a nice beat but the lyrics are wrong. Not politically incorrect, but "it's us against dem" is not a good racial mentality-Fuck, man, yeah, I'm black, but I don't feel like blasting up some bitchass whites, knawhaImsayin?

OutKast is possibly my favourite rap act-I know both guys personally, just to add to that. "Aquemeni" rocks, Rosa Parks is a fat cut, so are both Stories, all that shit. Return Of The 'G' is a hot joint, no "greater" meaning, but tight rhymes.

"Stankonia"'s a good album, some nice pisstakes(So Fresh, So Clean & We Luv Dezz Hoes, mostly), but not as good as their great work previously, or their experiment, ATLiens, probably my favourite out of they shit.

Nelly also comes high with me, and Mos Def too. Both are dope.

As far as i can tell DPG is down with DF. Peep:
Tha Streetz Iz A Mutha-Kuruptand Daz of DPG, and T-Moe of Goodie Mob of Dungeon Family. That's proof if i ever did see it. So there has already been a DPG/DF connection,so i wouldn't be surprised to see another one of Kast and Snoop..I'm personally still waiting for Eminem and kurupt to do a track together ]=(. 2 of my fave mc's and they still ain't hooked up and we can even see 'em hangin out together in the 2001 booklet. peace-Tanjint
