I really wanna punch Phil Jackson in his fuckin mouth! This game is WAY TOO IMPORTANT for him to be playing these fuckin mind games. He let them cut the lead from 30 to 10  before he finally decided to call a fuckin time out!

The positive thing of this game is we can play some defense in a such big game .. it's a shame we aren't 1st because Nuggets and Utah would have been very easy matchups for us .. Dallas and SAS are way tougher

...we're so much better.

I knew somebody jinxed us with early celebration...lol... when the Lakers hit the turbulence, my thoughts were, "Ok. Who on Dubcc jinxed us by celebrating the early big lead."  :)

Amazing game. Kobe probably won the MVP award because of this game. I mean it was a 1 on 1 against the #2 candidate, and he played better. Paul is the man, tho.

i don't think he won it last night, but if the hornets lose tonight vs the kings (which is happening) and we beat the spurs2 morrow, it's definately his. i think voters are really going to keep the 1 seed in the west mind HEAVILY when voting on the mvp.

^LMAO@the MVP being decided because one team won an extra game.

^ gee i don't know have seen the standings lately? houston could potentially finish witht he exact same record. fact of the matter is the powers that be who vote for this shit are going to look at who wins the west and that'll HEAVILY sway their decision.

indeed Houston has the possibility to finish 1st but I doubt they will win back to back games at Denver and Houston .. we better not fuck it up coz 1st seed = Western Conf GUARANTEED imo .. we wont lose a 7 game series against GS/Denver then Utah/Houston

true that. plus i'm doubting that the celtics will take it to the finals for some reason. i think they'll fuck up somwhere.

it's not. it's awarded to the most valuable leader of one of the elite teams. every year something weighs more than others. this year it's who comes out on top of the most competetive western conference we've ever saw. if the hornet won the 1 seed i have no problem giving it to paul. (pre losing 3 straight when it matters) . but the lakers winning it today guarantees that spot.

you have 3 types of mvp candidates this year

your flashy stat jackers- lebron, ie, who have AWESOME stats but weak ass records
you have your cushioned players- ie, Kevin Garnett, who were picked to be in the finals before they evne played a game because of the shooting power they obtained
then you have your legit candidates, ie Paul and Bryant, leaders of teams who weren't expected to do as much as they did.

^ how could anyone give it to KG when the eastern conference has been the weakest we've ever seen, and the west has been the most dominant. plus you got to account that KG was injured for many games AAAND he's had the complete luxury of having ray allen and paul pierce since get, then they got Sgt Sam and Posey. get the fuck outta here with that shit

^ how could anyone give it to Lebron when his team has a weak record in the east. THE EAST. but his stats are nice. it just makes him look like kobe last year.

Kobe last year actually single-handedly willed his team to the playoffs...I really can't see how LeBron is willing the Cavs to shit.

You don't give an MVP award out to a guy because his team won one more game...When it comes down to it, you award the MVP based on the PLAYER. An elite team is an elite team, one extra win doesn't decide the MVP.

any other year maybe not, but this year it does. especially in the west.

to me, Kobe is clearly the better player and should clearly get the MVP regardless...should be to you too.

the best player doesn't necessarily deserve the mvp every year.  if they gave it to the best player every year magic johnson should give up a couple of trophies to jordan and barkley and malone should give there's up to jordan as well.

In all honesty I never cared about the MVP award, always knew it was some fashion show bullshit.
it just seems that they have changed the criteria all of a sudden.... :-X
if the criteria was what it is today, Kobe would have been a multi winner by now!!!

Kobe is clearly 10X the Player Paul is..
let's be honest, Love Paul
But neither he or Garnett ain't no where near Kobe's league.

never said the best player should get it (though that's what the award was originally invented for)...but if a one game difference decides the MVP, then the award has become a major joke (not that it isn't already a joke, but ya know)..

okay? and exactly what does that have to do with winning one extra game not being a legit reason to give out an individual award?
Title: Re: Lakers SMASHIN on the Hornets...
Post by: Don Jacob on April 14, 2008, 02:31:48 PM
simple as this

the lakers lose to the hornets....there is no way kobe wins the MVP at all. Chris Paul's Argument becomes that much stronger because he lead the hornets, a team expected to do NOTHINg, to the number 1 seed in the most competetive playoff battles in nba HISTORY. key words there expectations, most, and history.  However since the lakers beat the hornets, kobe's stock rose out of that game, since he's the leader of the team, and he willed them to a win when it mattered. something that has plagued him since shaq left. the lakers also were not expected to do as well as they did so winning the west , which has bee the most competetive in NBA history , would do for kobe what it would do for Chris paul. it's macro factors like winning "one extra game" , that seprates the top two candidates tihs season. Both are lighting it up on the stat sheet. boht have exceeded expectations for their teams, the only thing that can split the controversy is who wins the conference. it's like giving the finals mvp to the losing captain when both performed jsut as well.

I understand using their head-to-head matchups as part of the criteria, but if the Hornets finished the season with one more win than the Lakers and Chris Paul was awarded the MVP trophy for that, then the award would be a joke...PeACe

This is the part of year where we look back at the stupid L's we took and just shake our heads. The back-to-back home L's to the Bobcats and Grizzilies. The game home game the refs gave to the Kings. Opening night when we left Battier wide fuckin open for that 3. Kobe's MVP campaign would be much stronger if we were 59-22 right now.

I think he has a strong chance. Especially if we beat the Kings and the Hornets lose to the Mavs.

when you put it that way, yes, but you look at the remaining schedule toward the end and the way they finshed them out that makes that one extra game mean something more than it being just a game.

The MVP award is extremely tainted either way...I really don't give a shit who wins it.
