The NBA announced Tuesday that Kevin Garnett of the Boston Celtics is the recipient of the 2007-08 NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award presented by Kia Motors.
The 6-11 forward led the Celtics in rebounds with a 9.2 (7.3 defensive rpg), to go along with 18.8 points, 1.2 blocks and 1.4 steals. He recorded a team season-high seven blocks against Chicago on Dec. 12.
This is bullshiet. Josh Smith gets no respect.

thank god! there is justice in the world. garnett along with duncan have been the best defenders at forward in the league for the last 6 years. it was disgraceful how neither has won this award yet.
also lmao at shaqs recent comments about garnett not even being a good defender.
-
Kobe has been overrated as a defensive player for some time now.

no , i think this shoulda gone to josh smith.
-
Kevin Garnett deserves this award just for bringing back that team & it's fanbase from the Dead.
;D
The Best Defensive team, should have the Best Defensive player.
Congrats KG
-
Josh Smith is the real DPOTY and he didn't even finish in top 5? :o fuckin disgrace//
-
^ For real, I can tolerate him losing it (although he deserved it) but for him to not even be top 5 is complete shit
-
Seems to me like they're gunna give it to him because he ain't gettin the MVP...
LOL@7even's bitter ass. Kobe has been one of the (if not the) best perimeter defender in the league for some time now.
-
Best defensive player on the best defensive team .. deserved
Like he said. Celtics played the best defense i've seen in years. And K.G. is simply the best defender of the team.
-
well lets break it down by the numbers
blocks pg
1. Marcus Camby 3.61
2. Josh Smith 2.8
3. Chris Kamen 2.77
4. Samuel Dalember 2.34
5. Dwight Howard 2.15
8. Andrew Bynum 2.06
21.Pau Gasol 1.48
27. Shaquille O'neal 1.44
29. Ronny Turiaf 1.38
30. Kevin garnett 1.25
steals PG
19. Josh Smith 1.52
23. Kevin Garnett 1.41
now i know the numbers don't tell the whole story but i like what josh smith has done over the course of the season more than garnett .

Oh, please! Don't bring those numbers to the table. Amare Stoudamire averages more blocks and steals than Garnett.........
Stats means shit, if you wanna talk about defensive skills.
Josh is a great defender too, don't get me wrong. But i think they gave the award to KG for 2 reasons:
1- Boston is the best defensive team in the League, and KG is the best defender in the team.
2- He's getting no MVP award.

Everyone in the top 5 in blocks is a Center except Josh Smith :o
Like someone else said, Garnett wins it, fine. But for him to not even be top 5 is ridiculous.

^Dude...haven't you learned by now that being a great defender has nothing to do with how many blocks and steals your average? LOL.

c'mon though, josh smith is a fantastic defender

When did I say he wasn't? That simply doesn't mean Garnett isn't a fantastic defender just because he doesn't average a grip of blocks and steals.

.....yeah that's why i said the numbers don't tell the whole story
like homie said above me, you look at the league leaders in blocks and you got these 7 foot beasts.....Howard, camby, kamen, ect. then right up there at number 2 you got Smith a 6'8 forward. to me that goes BEYOND the numbers. then you look at where garnett fits in ....number 30 that's all fine and dandy i guess but c'mon garnett doesn't even rank that high in any defensive category, but he's the defensive player of the year. what big name has he shut down that warrants this accolade? i'm sorry call me a KG hater but Josh Smith shoulda won this.
-
^J-Smoove is a good defender, but to Garnett's defense, he hasn't shut anyone down either. Still I woulda liked to see Josh Smith get the award this season.
