Title: Floppy Disks
Post by: Mo Z. Dizzle on April 22, 2008, 11:37:40 AM
Is there anyway to open a floppy disk when it gives the following message:

The disk in drive A is not formatted.
Do you want to format it?

If i format it, it'll erase everything on the disk; and i don't want to do that.

are you sure it'll erase everything, usually formatting a disk is different from reformatting. i remember using floppy disks back in the day and formatting them without losing data.

Yup, I'm sure. It gave me this message:

WARNING: Formatting will erase ALL data on disk.
To format the disk, click OK. To quit, click CANCEL.

I'm not certain you can open a floppy disk, b/c that would untangle the material that holds your data!
I'm not certain if there is a solution for your problem, Unless at the bottom of the floppy disk, you should see two holes, one of them has a shutter that you can move up and down, try moving itup/dwn to close one of the holes, put your disk back in and see if it works for you.

Well, I got some good news and bad news (for me).

The good news: I was able to get check those floppy disks out on my old laptop (I think about 10 years old) without formatting any of the disks.

The bad news: I couldn't find two of my write-ups that I did which really annoys me cause I spend a lot of effort on those two and thought they were some of the best I wrote.

Gotta ask around now and see if any of my friends kept the works when I sent it out lol.

Well what happened a few years back was that I was moving.
And the PC i had at that time was really garbage, so we (we as in my family) were going to buy a new one.
The last few days before we were moving, that PC would freeze every time I started it up.

So I'm guessing that I either didn't save it on a floppy before that happened or I can't find the floppy that I saved it on.
Probably the second one, since I do remember saving the write-ups on a disk.

Oh Right!!
Well if you saved on a disk and can't find it, then it's gon be hard to re-open the file!
How old is the PC??
I was going to suggest 'System Restore' ..that way you cloud perhaps access the said documents at some point before it was updated and saved to a floppy disk..you know?

The PC is i think about 6 or 7 yrs old I think.
My brother-in-law recently reformatted it though so it's been wiped cleaner than a baby's behind.

I had it up on my old website, but Yahoo deleted that because I was inactive; and I was too dumb to go on the website and make a copy lol.
