My MP3 player's fucked up unfortunately, warranty's expired, so I wanna buy a new one. Does anyone have any suggestions? I want at least 60GB and I want to avoid buying an IPOD because they suck for various reasons.
However, if I did end up buying an IPOD because the alternatives are worse, does anyone know an application to replace ITunes with and is it possible to arrange stuff your way with whatever program's help, rather than having to check and write all the fucking tags? Because if I just keep downloading and ripping, the ID3's will turn that shit into a mess if the player's based on that...

...by the way I used to have a Cowon IAudio X5 (well I still do, but it's useless), it seems they don't have these anymore, but if anyone got a new Cowon model of some kind (or knows something about them), your information could be very valuable :)
(...cause the player was good, far better than the Apple equivalent, it's not like I'm entirely innocent it doesn't work anymore :-\ )

Mediamonkey shits on itunes when it comes to organizing and tagging your files. You just right click the file you want tagged and go to auto tag from web and it will do it in a second.

^ But it'll still arrange by tags, right? Anyways, thanks

I have had an ipod for 2-3 years, droped it hellllla times and shit, throw it around in my gym bag and its fine, fuck tags all I have is the artis and the song name, and I love that shit. If I was to upgrade I would just get another ipod. Probably the classic.

1. You're lucky then, as for having such a robust ipod.
2. Not sure what you mean...your shit is not arranged by tags automatically on the player then?

I've had my Nano for over two years now, bought it when they came out.
I've never had any problems with it either
But I'm a kinda ID3 geek and I gotta have the tracks tagged right

Nanos are less vulnerable, but I need the big shit...and yeah, that's the thing with tags, if I really end up having tags I'll be nerdy enough about it to want it all in perfect order

I have an iPod my ID3's are tagged perfectly, I dont download garbage files, it really is not that hard to maintain stuff in iTunes.
I love my iPod, wouldnt change it for the world

Although I'm probably gonna get a 160 gig, ipod classic.

I'm in the same boat as you Kill, need a 60GB+ mp3 player and don't want an iPod. My 40GB iRiver is great but on it's last legs and I can't seem to find a replacement.
The best options I see so far is from Creative and Microsoft but I'm still hesitant to get either one, I'm going wait until my player now is completely dead.

ipod ipod ipod!
like i tell everyone in my department for every quirk ipod's have every other mp3 has 50 more.

I got a Zune, works like a charm 8)
but the battery life sucks..
-
depends. how much music do you have?
and yes, use mediamonkey to organize your music. it's helped me have all 800+ albums I have on my computer correctly ID3 tagged with album art 8)

I bought myself a new Creative mp3 player the other day. Only 2 GB, since I'll only be using it when I hit the gym. I got another mp3 player at home (40 GB - Creative Zen Touch).
I'd go with Creative.

iRiver, never heard of that. But I'll check that (and the Creative/Microsoft players) out

well, I don't know how much it would be if I really uploaded everything I got on CD's and my computer, but my old MP3 player had about 35GB on it...I got a beta of that on my computer, so I'd have those on a new player pretty quickly, and there'd be more to come...

Battery life is a factor, but not the most important one to me. What do you mean by "sucks" (in hours), how much GB does your player have and how does it arrange stuff (tags or not)?

I had a Creative a long while ago, and it sucked, but that don't mean they still do of course. Does yours arrange by tags?
...a round of props goes to everyone 8)

iRiver is really good but I don't know if they make the large capacity players anymore, the player I have is from like 2004 and I'm not even sure if they still sell it.
