X360 & PS3 review:
10 Presentation - The story is Oscar quality. The use of the phone as a gaming portal is genius. There’s really nothing more that could be asked for from GTA IV.
10 Graphics - The level of detail is astounding. Liberty City feels alive and lived in. While there are some technical issues, the artistic merits push the score to the max. A true marvel.
10 Sound - The dialogue makes the story. Without the excellent writing and the stellar voice acting, the story would fail. And the soundtrack kills -- more than 200 songs and almost all are great choices.
10 Gameplay - The cover and targeting system work great. Blind firing with an RPG is a thing of beauty. Everything works in harmony and not a single one of the missions is bad. The most fun I’ve had in years.
10 Lasting Appeal - The story will take anywhere from 25-45 hours to complete, depending on your skill level and attention span. There’s plenty more to do once you finish the story, such as excellent multiplayer.
10 OVERALL - Masterful
PS3 (UK version) review:

10 Lasting Appeal - The single player demands 40 hours alone and the multiplayer will keep you involved until GTA V.

biased, they got paid for that review. Its obvious the graphics can't be ten when you put games like devil may cry 4 uncharted and gears of war aside of it

While GTA IV is pushing the PS3 and 360 to the limit, it also runs amazingly well. Sure, there are framerate hitches here and there and (particularly on 360)
For those wanting to know which version looks better, the edge goes to the PS3. The textures and framerate are comparable, but the PS3 has far less pop-in. The 360 has richer colors, but the PS3 has better anti-aliasing making it look a little cleaner. Because GTA IV can preload onto the PS3 hard drive, the in-game loads are faster. Don't worry Xbox owners, the load times are rarely more than 30 seconds and don't occur very often. The slight visual edge goes to PS3, but the 360 is no slouch. Either version will do you proud.
Always planned to get a PS3 when GTA comes out, but this just solidifies it...

the amount of detail, the fluidity of the action, the detailed textures, the work on the shadows, the distance of rendering ( anisotroping filtering) and what gta is missing the most to me a good anti aliasing rendering

They sell the xbox for 220 in the arcade pack in the eb-game near my job, and they give 3 games (halo 3, forza 2 and another i forgot) if you buy gta IV with it

PS3 will get extra downloads (additional episodes) as well, just a little sooner than X360.. but GTA4 L.A. or something is probably ready by the time I'm 100% on GTA4..

I've played it for 3 straight hours (on a xbox360) this afternoon. It looks like a 10/10 to me.

bought it.. played it until about 5:30am this morning before getting a few hrs sleep before work and its an awesome game

Take Two Gets $50 Million For Exclusive Grand Theft Auto Downloads
Take Two will receive a whopping $50 million in exchange for exclusive downloadable "episodes" for the Xbox 360 version of Grand Theft Auto IV, the game publisher confirmed in a recent financial conference call.
The revenue will come in two installments -- $25 million when the first "episodic content package" launches on Microsoft's Xbox Live Marketplace digital delivery service in March 2008, and $25 million when the second download goes live later that year.
The highly anticipated entry in the infamous go-anywhere, shoot-anything urban crime series -- the first on next-generation game hardware -- is slated for release on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on October 16. GTAIV will retail for $60, with a special edition package released on the same day for $90.
Take Two confirmed last week that, at least for the time being, they only have plans to release the downloadable content -- which will likely include new missions for Grand Theft Auto's main character as he rampages through the streets of a fictionalized New York City -- on Microsoft's machine.
Whatever way you slice it, $50 million is a huge amount of money. That's five times what it cost to make Gears of War. It's not entirely clear what the specific terms of this deal are, but Microsoft apparently feels that having exclusive GTA content is crucial to getting players to buy Xbox 360 instead of PS3 -- and to get them ponying up for micro transactions.
Theres no way that any downladable content will be coming to the ps3 first, I would be surprised if they release anything extra for it

Get to it man! ;) Me and my friends stood in line like jackasses for two hours in the cold when a few stores opened at midnight, but once you play it you won't want to put it down. If you got time to burn don't waste it on this site and get to playing the game immediately. Hella fun when you drive in first person and run everyone over, to see the collision and impact effects right in front of you.

my friends got both consoles but he got the xbox version cause of the forthcoming downloadable missions making it the definitive version. microsoft paid a LOT of cash for it, so the terms would have to be that the content will never be available for the ps3 version. if not, then not for a very long time atleast...
anyway time to play it in a bit :D just came in the post this morning...

My younger brothers have been hogging the game since I bought it after work today, lol. I saved myself $20 off retail, so I'm happy with that.

That's why I said "a little sooner than X360"..
Sony said that there will "probably be exclusive downloads", but according to some inside source I read about somewhere, Sony can't reveal anything about it because Microsoft paid up to get it first, and Sony can't reveal about their deal with Rockstar before a month or two (or something) after Microsoft launched their extra episodes/downloads.
Makes sense though.. when you pay $50 mill, you don't want Sony stealing your thunder, at least not before it's released.

its because sony are going to have different downloadable content...microsoft paid the $$$ so they'd get something substansial and exclusive...sony are going to have some extra stuff available for the ps3 version though...

its an amazing game, but I dunno if I'm feeling it as much as San Andreas when I first got it, doesn't seem as funny and a lot of the things that made San Andreas so good aren't in GTA4.
still a dope game though, hopefully the next one they'll take it back to San Andreas!

music, city, characters arn't as exciting as San andreas, but it's still really bad ass. san andreas SO FAR is still my all time favorite game. but i'm what? only 5% into IV so i dunno. all i've really done is blast fools online( FUCKIN BAAAAAAAAAAD ASSSSSSSSS) and date that one chick and drive dude's cousin around . but then again that's pretty much what you did in SA for a lil bit.

you wanna know something? it's illegal for stores like target or wal mart to NOT sell you a mature rated game like GTAIV? anyone under 18 can legally purchase anything deemed as protected freedom of speech. there's court cases and everything on it.

the thing about san andreas is that the map was sooooo big and you had LA Las vegas and to a lessor extent San francisco , plus it had so much diversity and accuracy.
