Title: Space-Boogie Smoke Odessey Appreciation Thread
Post by: Furor Teutonicus on April 30, 2008, 02:10:56 PM
I got to say this album is a true banger. I think it's atleast on Streetz iz a Mutha level, production wise, it's even better. All Fredwreck beats are fuckin hot + Damizza Daz and Quik. The beats are very innovative, especially "On ,Onsite", one of the highlights. Quik served a heater with Can't go wrong" too.

On da Grind, At it Again,Space Boogie, Lay It On Back, Sunshine... all dope tracks. And of course X, MC Ren, Kurupt and Nate on "Hardest Muthafuckas". 4 legends on one track  :o Even the bonus track is pretty fly. ok, "It's over" is quite embarassing, but no doubt this is one of the best DPGC releases ever.

While I dont prefer it to streetz iz a mutha, I can see where your comin from when you say its got better production!
Some classics on here, 2001 was a year the DPGC clique released quite a few good albums.

wish we saw more of the fred wreck/kurupt combo..

Yeah it seems like all of Kurupt's albums seem like a transition towards a different vibe.

Kuruption was experimental. People wanted the DPG, west coast Kurupt throughout

Tha Streetz was exactly that. Kurupt it seemed like he wanted a updated sound and have a few more mainstream cuts

Enter Space Boogie

Especially at the beginning. Fred changed up the guitar riff a little bit but not much on Lay It On Back

The Hardest is one of my fave west coast posse cuts of all time, track bangs, and all the rappers kill it

Good album, actually i like this one alot, musically for the most part though. "Can't Go Wrong" (one of my favourite Kurupt songs) "On, Onsite", "The Hardest", "Hate On Me" are straight classics, alot of good songs there too. Actually, it's been a while since i bumped "Space Boogie", so i'll do it now.

"Game Iz Game" should've been on the album, it sounds like it was recorded around the same time. The lyrics wasn't so great, but Fredwreck came with a classic beat.

I like the album. Unfortunately, I think Kurupt is awfully bad and random as far as lyriscs go on every track except 'The Hardest Muthafuckaz'. To me, it just sounds like he didn't put in any effort elsewhere on the album and mainly used kindergarten rhymes. This is in terrible contrast to the beats which are all good. In fact, I think Kurupts lyrical laziness here was very disrespectful to the producers that gave him such gems.

I somewhat agree. I don't think Kurupt was terrible on it but I do thing that the production at times carried the album and his rhymes were average for the standards he set with previous releases
