Anyone notice who has the best record in baseball so far... the Florida Marlins are playing .622 ball. To be honest I have never been more disgusted with the Mets, even more so then during the collapse. I am pulling for the Marlins. I know they won't keep it up all year but its nice seeing a bunch of kids bust there asses out there and actually winning.
-
The A's are playing much better ball than anyone expected also. It's nice to see some teams playing their asses off and have some heart, I sure as hell don't see any of that watching every fucking Blue Jays game. >:(
-
The Jays arent doing good at all... and the lost of Vernon Wells along as playing in that division could mean that there out of it by June.
-
D-backs are dope this year (and last year) but i don't follow them that closely. They've got good character / chemistry - something that a lot of these major market teams lack.
-
just wait til the allstar break
remember Milwakee last year?
floridas pitching wont hold

Yeah I know but it's still nice to see.

no it's not
fuck the marlins, thier owners are cheapskates. they pocket the profits themselves.
hanley is so fucking generous to take a 6 year 70 million deal
i GUARANTEE the yankees would double that if we had the chance.
____-
on the other hand i'll admit mad props for winning 2 titles in just 15 years, but one was with a bunch of FA's and the other was with Miggy/Beckett/D-train/Pavano and all them cats way back
-
^^The Marlins have been able to assemble a lot of good players over the years though, it's a disappointment that they have been so cheap. The A's are similar, they develop a lot of players and then ship them out because they can't pony up the cash, but they haven't won a title and they just keep rotating their players, especially pitchers, instead of a complete firesale. My team, the Giants, have struggled, I wish they could just send Lincecum or Cain out every night. Boston and Arizona are both looking good, and they will keep it up all year.

its early. April bal is too unpredictable...if the past has shown us anything...Florida will fall beneath .500

ANother thing that pisses me off...hearing the "blue Jays have a great chance to win the divisions, they've got the tools"...thats about 4 years now...they just suck.

If they Yankees would have had Hanley, they would have a similar deal on the table for him too. That'll just be dumb to offer a player barely heading into arbitration a 6 yr 140 ml deal.

ESPN says Hanley could have made 150-200 mill if he waited and hit the market...
here's the thing, its NICE to see a player say "hey i can live off 10 million a year, i dont need 25", i love that. makes me wish Hanley was a Yankee even more.

The choice isn't 10mill or 25mill. It's all about the risk. I would not wait to hit the market either. What if I was to get injured the year before hitting the FA market. I'd be fucked big time. I'd rather "sacrifice" a couple of seasons so I can get guaranteed money hopefully be healthy enough to still get paid after.
-
If Hanley stays healthy he'll still get a huge pay day in 6 years. Then again 6 years 70 million aint bad either.

Yeah even though it won't last it's still amazing to see what Florida is doing. Propz to the A's, Rays and Marlins so far this year.
The Tigers have been disappointing along w/ The Yankees who have been disappointing but then again they have been every year for the last 9 years, it's become pretty pathetic. And I imagine your sick w/ the Mets right now Fits, a couple games over .500 w/ that money and roster :-X
I am actually pleased with the Giants so far, Lincecum is showing all the signs that in the very near future he will be the best pitcher in the game for quite some time, the kid is amazing, and Brian Wilson is doing great, tied for league lead in National League in saves, I think we are going to make a run at the playoffs in the next year or two.
Propz on the thread Fits, we need more people here that will talk baseball on dubcc. I know the handful of us baseball heads just doesn't post much MLB stuff here because the sports section on dubcc is dominated by Laker fans.
-
The M's have been shit recently (and that's putting it nicely) I thought we could win the West this year, and we still have a long season ahead of us but we're gonna have to stop playing like this.
-
ANother thing that pisses me off...hearing the "blue Jays have a great chance to win the divisions, they've got the tools"...thats about 4 years now...they just suck.
They do suck. But I still do think they have a lot of potential.
The Blue Jays are so frustrating. They might just have the best pitching in the majors however they can't score fucking a run. Such a waste of pitching talent.

blue jays = canadian padres

Pretty much. You can't win if you can't score.
It's when Toronto has advanced all those baserunners to second and third base that the bats have come up empty at an alarming rate. Entering Monday's doubleheader against the Indians, the Jays had a Major League-worst .209 average with runners in scoring position.
With runners simply on base, Toronto is ranked dead last in the American League with a .242 average. Part of the problem is that the Jays have grounded into a league-high 47 double players, entering Monday -- compared to 26 through 38 games a year ago.
Toronto can consider itself fortunate that, while the club currently resides in last place in the AL East, it headed into Monday's game six games behind first-place Boston. That's a result of the Jays' dominant pitching staff, which has helped overcome some of the offensive woes.

man i think everyone in baseball is surprised to see how well the giants are doing this year. shiit..i thought yall would be worse off than the padres are right now. real spit. but fuck it (no homo), the rivalry is always more fun when the two teams are so close..especially if it stays this way towards the end of the season.
-
^^Terrible loss tonight for Giants.
And you should be happy, Dodgers have played very well so so far this season, they will be in the thick of things all year.
-
^^Zito has looked a little better these last 2 starts, it was funny that they cheered him so loud. He doesn't need to be a #1 starter, just give them a chance for a win like he did tonight. I like the younger guys in the lineup, Bowker and Lewis especially, but I can't stand Jose "Double Play" Castillo. That guy has gotten on my nerves since Opening Day.
As for the Giants/Dodgers rivalry, I agree that it's better when they are close to each other, although I enjoy when we are able to dominate. My Dodger fan friend and I were talking about how all the San Diego fans have tried to talk trash, but I don't even respect their input in baseball. I hate the Dodgers, but I can at least respect their existence as a legit baseball team and legit fans.
-
the padres aint shit. their fans were talking mad shit before the season even started, and look at them now! hahahaha
-
Go Dodgers. 8)
-
Oakland A's have the lowest ERA in baseball. And they are in the top 3 lowest payrolls in baseball. And they are 1/2 game out of first place 1/4 of the way into the season. You gotta admire the heart in that clubhouse.
-

ha ha i know huh!
i think if the dodgers can put some consistancy together like our run we had earlier; we could end up doing what colorado did last year.

whats that? make it to the world series because the national league is extremely weak, and then get whooped on by any american league team that makes the playoffs?
-
hey i'll be happy if we just make the playoffs so making the world series is more than i could hope for.
-
If the Dodgers make it, I'd rather see them not do it the Rockies way. They just got hot at the right time, out of nowhere.
-
The Tigers have gotten off to a horrific start, I guess you cant buy chemistry on a team but the Marlins won that way in 1997 so maybe they can turn it around, The Mets need to fire Willie Randolph and get somebody to shake it up over there, they have been playing with their head up their asses now for almost a year, something is serioulsy wrong with a team with so much talent

Willie needs to go for just being a horrible in game manager and losing the club house. But I think a equally bigger problem is Delgado he has done nothing on the field and I don't care what anyone says hes a bad club house influence. I wish the Mets would release him but no team in baseball would eat 14.5 million.

^^^Yeah for sure, Beltran sucks also. I hate that guy, soft as hell, no fire at all and frankly he just isn't a good player.

Beltran is not the problem. And don't let the NY media fool you, he isn't soft. Christ in 05 he played CF with a smashed up face. And dude crashes into the wall at times like its nothing. His bat started off very slow this season and it is now starting to heat up. Like I said don't let the NY media fool you Beltran is not soft he just isn't a media type of guy.

whats wagners beef?
The Mets just had a 7 game homestand against the Reds and the Nats. Anything less then 5 and 2 would of been unacceptable. Instead the Mets really didn't show up at all and went 3-4 on the homestand. After the final game they are interviewing Wags and and he goes why the fuck are you talking to me. I didn't even play why don't you talk to them and he pointed at Delgarbages locker. And then he said oo there gone, fucking shocker. And he walked away. It was one of those things that really needed to be aired out and hopefully it will light a fire under some players and get some players to get there head out of there asses. And the first game after the drama this was the first game all season IMO where that played a strong fundamental game the entire 9 innings.
-
Beltran is a good player, I like the way he bounced back after his first season with the Mets he's had 2 good years in a row, Delgado has fallen off the last few years after coming to the Mets and being a big factor that first year
-
Upping this powerful piff... The fish will not die... and boy was I wrong about Delgado lol.
