most good rappers have original beats on their mixtapes, so mixtapes are great

bishop lamont, saigon, crooked i, etc all have classic mixtapes over all original beats which practically make them albums

most are on cd, the term mixtape stems from back in 80's and 90's when dj's would release tapes that blended in the tracks one into another like you would hear in the club.

There not like todays where its kay slay shouting over a track while he presses start and stop on each track.

its also easier to release now, record deals and then actualy releasing the record is harder with the evolution of internet dlowding.

tell these muthafuckas to stop being lazy and put in some actual work towards an album and stop flooding the game with watered down shit. rappers need to tighten up

Politics from the label make it somewhat difficult to release an album.
Artists have more freedom to rap about whatever they want.
Creates buzz for the release of an album.
