Damn, this may be Nas' second best cd, and light years ahead of the very good Stillmatic.. Seriously, i a not kidding either.....i know most of the songs have been out for awhile, but he seems to have touched them up and even redid parts (Fetus)...If the Source rates that, this is 5 MICs for sure...
If you like Nasty Nas, you will LOVE this album, best album i have heard this year, even better than Scarface! I know this isn't a westcoast topic, but people should not sleep.
Go to SOHH.com, there is a post titled "FOR those who haven't picked up "The Lost Tapes" - Here....
i am gonna post a review later tonight....
-
Man you noticed that's a West Coast forum?
-
Tracklisting......
Fetus (dope idea, great song)
Doo Rags (one of the best songs i have ever heard from Nas)
My Way (Alchemist production...nice piano loop, although Nas sounds a little out of it on this one)
U Gotta Love It (from his Nastradamus period, better than most of the shit on that cd though by far)
No Idea’s Original
Everybody’s Crazy (Nasty Nas right here)
Blaze A 50 (classic song)
Purple (new song, INCREDIBLE, real hiphop- "THe whole city is mine/pretty as dawn/ don't like the way Diddy did Shyne)
Drunk By Myself (classic song)
Black Zombies (better than the other version)
Poppa Was Player (classic song, even if Nas does sing the hook)
I know this cd does not have the commercial exposure or appeal of Stillmatic, but i promise everyone will like this...ya, i am hyped on this one, but a new album hasn't made me feel this way all year....
-
Nas is a legend, he was my very first rap CD i bought.
It is a let down what has been doing with his career lately, refering to the move with Murder INC. Hopefully his style will not change.
-
THat's why this album i so dope.....no commercial songs at all, no AShanti, Rule, or Gotti. I got no problem with Ja RUle, GOtti, or Ashanti, but i do if they are on songs with Nas. See, i like corny shit sometimes, but i start hating it when it infringes on real music!
-
Damn, I cant wait till it comes out...
-
U can download MP3's of every song at SOHH.com (the Spot) under the thread
"FOR those who haven't picked up "The Lost Tapes"- here....
-
Probably not.. ;D

man people throw classic and legend around way too much....

Or u can just wait till September 3rd when the real thing comes out, just like I'm doing...
-
It comes out September 3rd? Can't wait to buy it.... i wasn't really thinking of buying it cuz i thought i had all the tracks, but the new tracks are amazing and the order they are in make the old ones that much better. Can't wait to get this album....
And ya, people do throw the terms classic and legend around way too much, but it is pretty hard too dispute that Nas has at least one classic, possibly two, maybe three in a lot of people's eyes.
I haven't called an album a classic in a long time; i never thought Stillmatic was classic, or Blueprint....in my mind though, this album is that good, at least on my first 10 or 20 listens. you can never really say an album is classic until it has been out and stood the test of time (which Stillmatic and Blueprint won't do).......this Lost Tapes will be more an underground classic, like Masta Ace's Disposable Arts.

You cant give a "greatest hits" compilation of sorts 5 mics. Thats retarded

You cant give a "greatest hits" compilation of sorts 5 mics.
Exactly.
-
I know, that is why the SOurce won't review it........besides, this is far from a greatest hits collection, it is more like songs that never made albums, yet somehow they amount to an album that is better than anything since IT was Written......i don't know how the hell this happened either, but i swear to god this album is INCREDIBLE....
-
yea some greatest hits album considering that none of these songs have ever been officially released an also that no other tracks from his other 5 albums on here. Im definitly goin cop this
-
If its as good as IWW then it's good enough for me to buy. I'ma have ot peep a couple tracks just ot make sure ;D
-
damn this is dope, ima def. copp it!
i wonder if the version of no ideas is the same beat as the ghostface song called the watch,,,,cuz i got the remixed version and everybodys crazy on my stillmatic cd.......i also wish street dreams aka everyday thang was on there cuz i love that joint wit dre and nate

Do you dispute NAs is a legend? Sure, he has had two half ass albums, some weakass guest appearances, and he even rollin with Murder Inc now......but listen to this cd of LEFTOVERS and tell me he ain't a legend. AS much as i hate Nas sometimes, shit like this brings me back to earth (i can tell you must not be a fan of NAs)
-
I personally consider "Stillmatic" a classic anyways, and i've already got many of these tracks and I think their all dope-a-licious. It'll be good to here them in perfect quality though, no doubt i'll be picking this up.
-
Besides Doo-rags, i would say the best track on the cd is PURPLE, and it is brand new.....
-

It aint a greatest hits. It's all the dope songs he made, but never got released. He deserves props for them.
-
its good...black zombies was my fav....no "classic" tho.
that word gets thrown around wayyyyy too much on these forums.

Yes..thats why i said "greatest hits" with instead of greatest hits. Anyways-again-you cant give a compliation of material 5 mics. I dunno-the CD may be hot though-as long as most of the stuff is pre Nastradamus/Stillmatic.
-
Drunk by myself is a dope song. Real deep ish.
-
After thorough listening I gotta say it's dope shit, but 5 mics?
Cmon now!
If you think this is 5 mics then you probably thought Stillmatic was 5 mics too.

WOrd, its good but far from 5 mics
-
Jome: I didn' think Stillmatic was 5 mics, more like 4 mics. Well i never truly rate an album until at least a year, i am just hyped about this album because it isn't actually a bunch of commercial crap. I also love it because it is nice to get another great nas album before God Son comes out....
Ya, it may not be 5 mics, but it is EXACTLY what i wanted, so to me it is perfect, ya feel?

Word. I wish more artists, namely Snoop, Dre etc, would release a few albums full of perfect quality unreleased tracks!
-
definitley not a 5 mic classsic, but its a nice listen, id give it a 4
-
NIK: Of course no album is five mics the day it drops, but i just felt that this would get everyone's attention as i don' think people should sleep on an album like this......peace
