2008 Ratings Up 38 Percent over 2007’s Game 1
NEW YORK, June 6 (AP) -- The Lakers-Celtics matchup gave the NBA finals' television ratings a big boost.
Game 1 on Thursday averaged an 8.7 rating on ABC, the network said Friday. That's up 38 percent from the 6.3 during last year's Cavaliers-Spurs series.
It's the highest Game 1 rating since Lakers-Pistons in 2004 drew a 9.8.
The rating is the percentage watching a program among homes with televisions.

I expected even better...still good, though. A game 7 will be insane.

No shocker at all.

Only Game 1 but if these Finals aren't the most watched since 1998 ones , I guess it will be a dissapointment for the league ..

of course it does. It has a lot to do with it. Its not everything. Theres a lot of great players in this series and bostonvs l.a is classic.
Dont be so quick to jump homie
Edit..... Actualy re reading it i quoted one quote too many
The common factor was KObe in those 2 series so my bad on that one.

sorry to pop your bubble, but the Lakers - Celtics rivalry has been dead for about 15 years. People don't care near as much as you think or the NBA tries to make you believe. Personally I'm watching cause I woulda been watching no matter who made it anyway.
-
^Rivalries like this don't die. Celtics-Lakers=greates rivalry in basketball...ever. Shit is timeless.
-
Nobody cares about it anymore though. thats the point.
-
Maybe in Portland...But people out here and out in Boston are ecstatic.
-
IM not in Boston or LA and im happy with it..much better then S.a vs clevland or S.a vs detroit.

Dude its Kobe. The only players left from that 2004 team are Walton, Fisher, and Kobe..

NBA has the NHL problem right now...only the die hards and the regular sports fan watch it....the _casual_ fans dont give a fuck.
I can't wait for game 2 baby!

The finals series this year has been a blast to watch. I haven't watched a full game of basketball in years.

Anytime the Yankees play in the World Series, it tends to hit 20million plus viewers per game. Other times it's reached more than 20 million is because either the Red Sox were making history or a series went to Game 7. Barry Bonds' Giants couldn't even crack the 20m mark until Game 7 when it reached 31million. It has a lot to do with the fact that the Lakers are back in the Finals. Ratings are always up when teams with a huge fanbase make it to the Finals. Of course it doesn't hurt when you have the best player in the game, but I don't think that's the most important factor. Yankees have such a large fan base, with a large fan base comes a long a separate fan base that wants you to lose. The same thing can be said for the Lakers.

exacly, having the best player helps but its mostly the team in this case the Lakers and in Baseball The yankees.
