Marc Gasol set for NBA (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=Av7wrjQlx4n5GJfi1UnG4D6kvLYF?slug=txmarcgasoljoinnba&prov=st&type=lgns)

GIRONA, SPAIN (TICKER) —Spanish international Marc Gasol announced on Monday his intention to play in the NBA next season.
The 23-year-old center, who is the younger brother of Los Angeles Lakers’ Pau Gasol, has spent the last two seasons with Akasvayu Girona. His rights are held by the Memphis Grizzlies after the February trade that shipped his brother to Los Angeles.
At a press conference, Gasol said he would leave for the NBA this summer, although he is not certain whether he will play as Memphis may choose to trade him.
“I have called this press conference today to publicly announce my decision to go to the NBA,” Gasol said.
“I’d like to thank everyone at Girona, all the directors of the club. I made this decision this weekend, as I want a new motivation in a new place.
“This isn’t just down to me, but to Memphis also. At the moment I’m thinking about the possibility of playing for them, and if later on there are changes then I’ll accept that.”
Gasol said he was not concerned about being overshadowed by his brother, who has been an All-Star in the NBA.
“(Comparisons with Pau) don’t bother me because I’ve had that these past few years in the ACB,” he said. “Pau has helped me to think about coming to the NBA, although I was the only one who could make the final decision.”
Gasol’s move from Spain to the NBA would reverse a trend this offseason, as Juan Carlos Navarro left Memphis last week for Barcelona and the Toronto Raptors released Jorge Garbajosa.
He's gunna be good.

didn't even knew he had a lil bro... gotta youtube hiss ass to see what we dealing with
after seeying some first movies, impressed, dude can shoot well and finish from the inside
-
^Yup...he was a steal in the 2nd round. And people are heavily underestimating him. Remember, he was part of the package the Lakers sent for Pau Gasol. The trade wasn't as lopsided as many people will lead you to believe.
-
^correct me if im wrong, so the lakers had the rights to marc gasol, but the rights where transfered to the grizzlies with his brothers trade to the lakers?
-
Good european player. He stepped up dramatically this year.

Correct.

Correct.
isn't marc potential to become bigger then pau? i mean dude's only 23, 5 years younger than pau. He would be better as a future all-star don't you think?

Nah... He would have been a 1st rounder if that were true.

He would be a first rounder if he were drafted this year...he's bigger and stronger than Pau. I think he's gunna be the next big from overseas to have success in the NBA.

Yeah but saying a second rounder who hasn't even played one game in the NBA is going to be better than a present All-star is a bit crazy, isn't it?

He's put up better numbers than Pau did in Spain... You can't say he'll be as good or better, but he definitely has the potential. I wish we woulda kept him.

^^So do you honestly think he'll be better than Paul?

No...I hope not. LOL.

lol at thinking if a player is taken in the second round he'l never be good, shits happened countless times where a bona fide star has been drafted late.

Find a quote in this thread that says he will be garbage.
I'm just saying there is a very good chance Marc Gasol won't be as good as his brother

Especially with Euros...
-
i wasnt having a go toine, but it is extrmeley rare granted but the nba or should i say most nba teams are obsessed with potential. which is whay i dont unerstand these threads that say like lebron is better than kobe, the here and now is the most important thing, prime should be the status quo
-
Well, Navarro has been a superstar in Spain, not so much in the NBA ya dig

He was good for a rookie...and also, he was a shooting guard in a point guards body. Marc Gasol is huge! An inch taller than his bro and way bulkier.

you never know, it could be a possibility
but the Lakers want to win now, and parting with him was probably ok because of Bynum
-
He's gunna be good.
Rudy Fernandez > Marc Gasol!

Basically it was been a masterpiece by Mitch Kupchak (i told ya he can draft!). When he drafted him, Marc was still too raw, so much that i didn't like the pick at all. His numbers were not solid at all, and he probably wasn't even the best C in his team. He was averaging 10 ppg and 5 rebounds in 23 minutes per game, when Mitch drafted him. And he was nothing but a mediocre player, to be honest with you. So much that people in Europe was making fun of the Lakers drafting him ("there are tons of players better than Marc!"). But this year he stepped up, averaging 16 ppg and 8.3 rebounds in 33 minutes per game, playing regularly for the Spanish national team and even playing in the European All Star game. Now yes, he's viewed as a great prospect and i'm sure he'd be an high 1st rounder this year.
But i think any team who wants to sign him has to pay his Cibona club the buy-out. Like Houston did with Scola.
-
^It was the same thing with Pau...he averaged like 4 points and 2 rebounds in his first season with his Spanish team! LOL

Yeah. But to tell you the truth i wasn't expecting Marc to be that good. While i knew Pau was good.

^Even last year, I saw many flashes of Pau in his game...I had lots of faith in him from the moment I started researching his game.

sure, and only 8 of the Chicago White Sox got banned in the black sox scandal, but the team is still refered ot as the black sox
dirk is a GREAT, AMAZING competitor from game 1 to 82, but he does not have the mental strength to carry a team as a #1 player, he folds under pressure alot.
gasol can't even be a #2 let alone #1.
steve nash played with a bloodied nose, that was pretty respectable.
-
Gasol is a power forward who can play center...He actually came into the NBA as a small forward. He will be much better next season.
