Title: Bishop Lamont should have kept "City Lights" for his album...
Post by: Dimos on July 09, 2008, 11:22:59 AM
... shoot a music video for it and drop it as the first single off "The Reformation". Fuck those reused elements from "Love Me No More", the beat is one of the best I've heard from Khalil, the hook is amazing and Bishop came tight on it with some funny lines like "the ozone gettin thinner, my pockets gettin fatter/the world might end today, i'm rich bitch it don't matter"... Thats single material to me.

What yall think?

Honestly, he should have kept the "I Need It" track off Caltroit for his album.
That's album material and a certified banger.
I can't understand how such a crazy beat was only used for a mixtape.
This is probably the beat I have heard since a couple of years.

yeah man i was feeling the same way about that City Lights track. Been bumpin that non-stop since the untagged version got released. the beat sounds like it is inspired from I'll still Kill by curtis but this one is even crayzier! the hook also is perfect and bishop's flow is laid back, really one of my favorite Bishop/Khalil track.

i have to agree that city lights should have been saved for his album...the production is sick...im feelin the little rock/hiphop mashup on the hook and i know a lot people up here hate that track and i dont care because its better than alot of shit thats out now.

Don't worry, I'm sure his album will be even better...minus club tracks.

Tagged or untagged, I was bumpin that shit. he should do a video for it anyway, there is a severe lack of videos out west and I don't know why when technology is getting easier for some upcoming video dudes to make some dope shit

I agree. "City Lights" & "Grow Up" are my favrote songs Bishop has done so far except this reeeaallyyy erie song Dre did for him about a ouija (wee-gee) board on halloween.. (CRAZY)

I gave "City Lights" to Jimmy Iovine months ago when I took Vanessa Marquez up to see him & told him the same thing (along with Taje's mixtape & some of Mike Ant's stuff).  Bishops whole camp is is like the Dogg Pound all over again. Mike Ant, Prime, Dae One, Diverse, JRK, Taje, Indef & the whole crew is dope!

City lights would have been a much better single than Grow up, 'Sometimes' would have been a brilliant single, thought provoking and reminds of a song that tupac would have done.

It's got big radio/crossover appeal.

Exactly! And he didn't dumb down his lyrics on it, at least not as much as some of these rappers do on their singles. I hope this cut still will make the album, cause otherwise the mainstream would definitely miss on a banger...

^^
I wouldn't really call any of The Confessional leftover stuff. Seems to me Bishop & co. really put in work to put the tape together.

I agree totally that City Lights could've been album material, as could a lot of the songs on there and on his previous mixtapes. But since his track record with the mixtapes is as good as it is, I'm pretty sure Bishop won't disappoint with The Reformation.

I absolutely don't agree. ''City Lights'' was a good song, but nothing more than that...everybody's always talking about Bishops flow being too lazy, anyway on THIS track his flow is TOO LAZY and that's just a fact...the beat is dope but too similar to ''On Top Now'' and even ''I'll Still Kill''. And don't get me wrong i love DJ Khalil, but more the ''I Cant Figure It Out'' type of songs not this recycled shitty type of beats beat, though i have to admit the hook is very good.
