Marcus Camby will likely be in Los Angeles with the Clippers next season. (AP | Darren Hauck)
The Nuggets will trade veteran center Marcus Camby to the Los Angeles Clippers in order to create salary cap space, Camby's agent Rick Kaplan confirmed on Tuesday night.
Camby declined to be interviewed until Wednesday, but said through a statement:
"Most of all, I'll miss the Denver community it became my home. It's where I have my foundation, and I was very involved there."
Because Camby will make closes to $10 million next season because of contractual bonuses, he will help save Denver close to $20 million a source said, and Denver is currently above the NBA's salary cap.
Denver will receive a future second-round draft pick from Los Angeles
PG Baron Davis
SG Cuttino Mobley
SF Al Thornton
PF Marcus Camby
C Chris Kaman
:o
Wow...Nuggets=out, Clippers=in. And this will also attract those free agents the Clips are tryna sign. Sterling still got some cheese. :-X

still lacking some firepower on the offensive end
they need an athletic wing guy who can create his own shot at the 3 spot
-
what was denvers benefit out of this LOL
-
LOL the Nuggets are some sorry ass niggas.

Ummm...Al Thornton. LOL.

It's a salary dump...still, you'd think they could get more for Camby. LOL. Like a 1st round pick and some young prospects, perhaps.
-
Denver can't play D for shit already so they go and trade their best defensive big man
-
Good move for the Clippers. This should be an interesting season.
-
what the fuck denver :-\
Exactly what I was thinking you don't make these kind of moves within your own conference.

you do if you're in cap hell and the only team willing to help you save money is in your conference.

You tellin me that a 2nd round pick from the Clippers was the best offer they could get? Donnie Walsh is in big trouble with Zach Randolph.

if the Knicks knew Camby was available again and they could bring him back they'd trade like 2 number one's
oh wait Isiah's gone. hahaha.

Depends on what you mean by best. If their goal was purely to dump salary then I dont know how they could have done much better than that. Sure, they most definitely could have gotten more talent for him, but they would have to pay double for that talent due to them being over the luxury tax threshold.
-
^I imagine they could have got a 2nd rd pick from an eastern conference team as well.

they could've at least gotten a number 1 pick for him and a sent him off to a team that wouldn't be fighting with them for a playoff spot. LOL
-
Nuggets organization are idiots Camby is worth way more than a second round pick.
-
wow congradulations Clipper fans....you came up like the lakers, lol.
-
LMAO at the Nuggets!! HAHAHA they are almost run as bad as the Knicks are, maybe even worse, that franchise makes the worst moves! Propz to the Clippers, they are looking great!!
-
^ now lets hope they don't fuck shit up like they usually do when they start to have some potential.
-
^I imagine they could have got a 2nd rd pick from an eastern conference team as well.
Yeah exactly. They just did a charity job to a team they'll be fighting against for that 7-8 spot.
-

How many Eastern Conference teams are far enough under the cap and have a need for Camby?

How many teams had the cap space to facilitate the trade AND were willing to give up a #1 pick for him AND wanted or needed him? My guess is no team had that combination of factors at work and thats why they sent him to LA for a 2nd. LA knew they were desperate to shed salary and gave them a way to do it while addressing a need.

^I dunno, man... I know for a fact that there were other teams with felxibilty willing to take on Camby's salary. I mean, shit, this is the defensive player of the year we're talking about, no slouch. It's hard to believe no one woulda' offered a 1st round pick if he wasn't shopped around a little harder.

What teams have the cap space necessary to facilitate this type of deal? Before the deal happened, there was the Clippers, Warriors and who else?
-
this trade is a shocking mishap on denvers front office in my opinion. Camby was a huge trading chip on so many levels, as was the case he could of been used to dump salary for a couple of first round picks or they coulda got a player or 2 back in return.
terrible terrible trade for denver.

would this move have been impossible if they had signed elton brand

I agree...now they have the flexibilty to sign another big name, as well.

Great move by the Clippers. You know, Baylor always made some great teams, then Sterling would let the talent go to save money. Hopefully they can build something with Baron Davis, cause my man is finally home.

josh smith?

AI just needs to realize it's better for him to take a paycut and join the Lakers. That's all. He and Fish can rotate, or move Kobe to 3, though I think Fish off the bench is 6th man award right there.

I dunno about all that...AI would really need to mold his game.

I don't want Me, Myself and Iverson anywhere near the Lakers.

The "New" Denver Nuggets! NOW WITH 100% LESS DEFENSE!!!

PG Chucky Atkins

SF Carmelo Anthony

They probably wont make the playoffs, but they'll be a 9-10 seed at worst.

Still trying to come to grips with his trade from Denver to the Los Angeles Clippers, Camby talked candidly about his disappointment in the hours after his abrupt departure. "Blindsided, distraught, disrespected. All those adjectives. I definitely feel insulted," he said in a telephone interview with the Rocky Mountain News. "When I first heard about the trade, I felt like I was the scapegoat after all our past first-round exits and failures and lack of defense. I felt it was them telling me that I was no longer wanted and I was the cause of everything that went wrong the last couple years on this team. "I'm still in disbelief. I'm still in shock. I still can't believe this happened." Rocky Mountain News
"I'm definitely frustrated because I felt that I gave it my all," he said. "There were years when I was the only (healthy) big guy on the team when all the big guys around me were hurt. I would still play hurt and do my all for this team. I didn't realize my salary was that much compared to everyone else's. They basically dumped mine and got nothing in return." The trade came less than a week after backup forward Eduardo Najera signed a free-agent contract with the New Jersey Nets. Like Camby, Najera was best known for his defense. "The team and the organization always talked about the need to play good defense, but they traded away a pretty good defender," Camby said. "From that aspect, I really don't understand the move. They obviously feel confident with the team they have assembled right now to get some things done." Rocky Mountain News

I'd feel the same way if I were Camby.

Nets Offered Package Of Young Players For Camby
The Nets offered Denver a package of young players (Sean Williams, Josh Boone, Marcus Williams, a take your pick kind of scenario) and expiring contracts for Marcus Camby, but the Nuggets didn't want salaries coming back, Nets officials said.

Fucked up part is when they suck next year #15 will get all the blame.
-
The funniest part about it is that they can use a Sean Williams/Josh Boone type of player up front and are in desperate need of a legit point guard, and Marcus Williams is a legit up-and-comer.
-
This is what happens when an owner simply gives up on his team.

Own goal.
