Title: Sixshot.com interviews Spider Loc
Post by: ThaRealSupreme on July 30, 2008, 12:16:10 PM
G-Unit is in trouble. There’s no if, ands, or buts about it and there’s no way around it. When 50 Cent’s album Curtis didn’t fare as well as his past people seemed to chalk it up to the ever evolving music industry and maybe lack of promotion on Interscope’s part.

No excuses are being made now though that G-Unit’s album Terminate On Sight will be lucky to go gold selling just over 100k in it’s first week in the stores.

Something is wrong in the G-Unit camp. The problem is, nobody seems to be able to pinpoint what it is, not even 50 Cent. Besides the obvious issues like Young Buck getting ousted from the crew how could it be that a label that was running the earth just a few short years ago are in such despair? Only time will tell.

Besides Buck being tossed, Olivia was dropped, M.O.P. seems to be gone, Hot Rod has been signed for years and still doesn’t seem to have a release date in sight, and the man who has been waiting in the wings the longest is still doing just that, Spider Loc.

Loc was signed years ago in G-Unit’s heyday and for years has been patiently waiting for his turn to shine but still a release has not been set for th e Unit’s only member from California. He’s never had a negative word to say about 50 or the crew, he’s never had beef with them, and he seems to be happy to be there. It’s been years on the Unit and Spider has released an independent project, done some acting, and flooded the mixtape circuit but one can’t help but wonder, when is the official release?

Sixshot.com sat down to talk with Spider Loc about his album, the acting he’s done, West Coast hip-hop, and the problems going on at G-Unit.

Sixshot.com: Sup man, what's good?

Spider Loc: Everything is going real good man. Everything is cool.

Sixshot.com: First thing I wanted to ask you about was The West Kept Secret. It did real well review wise. Do you think it was a good tool to keep the fans happy until the album drops?

Spider Loc: Yeah I definitely think it was a great CD for the fans who are real fans of Spider Loc. You got to keep feeding the fans man. That’s what it’s all about right there. I’ve given and I’m going to continue to give them my fans more than the can hold onto so they’ll be cool until the album drops. The fans have been patiently waiting for the album so it’s only right that I hit them with music while they wait.

Sixshot.com: G-Unit seems to be going through a transition period right now. Is it affecting you at all?

Spider Loc: Yeah the transition definitely affects me. I’d be lying if I said it didn’t. It not only affects me though, it affects the unit as a whole. It’s a big transition too but you have to roll with it.

Sixshot.com: As one of the up and coming artists out of the West Coast do you feel a responsibility to help bring it back to the forefront of hip-hop?

Spider Loc: The only thing I can say that I really feel responsible to do is to always do my best. That’s all anybody can ask for, to try your best and I do that all day every day. I wasn’t the one who got the West Coast in the position that it’s in now so how can I feel like I’m the one responsible for changing it? All I can do is my best.

Sixshot.com: You were on Weeds, which is a real popular show. Do people notice you a lot more now after that exposure?

Spider Loc: I wont say a lot more about it but yeah man people have definitely come up to me to let me know that they saw me on the show. It’s raised the profile and it’s definitely helped the popularity. People that may have not noticed me took notice before the appearance on the show and I appreciate that.

Sixshot.com: You've done some other acting as well. Do you plan on continuing to act?

Spider Loc: Acting is definitely something I plan to continue with in the future, that’s for sure. Acting is real cool. I like doing it. I love doing it, you know? I love it. I gotta get it. Baymaac!

Sixshot.com: Fans have been waiting a long time for the album. What can we expect from that?

Spider Loc: I’ve put a lot into the recording of this album and the fans can expect the best that the West has to offer. That’s definitely what they can expect, the best that the West got. It’s a great album and I think the fans will appreciate it. It’s been a while that I’ve been recording it and I put a lot into it.

Sixshot.com: What has it been like recording this album?

Spider Loc: It’s actually been real crazy recording this album. Just from the start of recording I’ve seen music go through a lot of different changes since I started. And that’s just from the beginning creation of the album so the music shifts directions a lot. You gotta be able to move with the changes.

Sixshot.com: I always wondered, how did you come up with Blutiful?

Spider Loc: That was actually Crooked I who blessed me with the word blutiful. He was just saying it around me one day and I took it and ran with it. It was a cool concept so we had the song and of course the video was hot as well. We followed that whole Blutiful theme.

Sixshot.com: Being a newer artist, are you at all worried about the sales slump hip-hop is experiencing?

Spider Loc: I mean I guess I am to some extent but also I feel that there is still an acceptable level of success to be acquired so that’s what I’m going after. It’s different than it was but you gotta keep it movin’. You gotta do the best you can to reach that level of success.

Sixshot.com: What do you consider you role to be in terms of West Coast hip-hop?

Spider Loc: I consider my role in West Coast hip-hop to be just the total and then some of everything that has come before me. That has always been my goal in the game since I got here.

Sixshot.com: The West Coast isn't known for it's lyrics but you're a lyrical dude. Is it important to you to be more lyrical in your music?

Spider Loc: Yeah absolutely because if it wasn’t for the lyrical part of hip-hop id never be a part of it. That’s all I have to offer are my lyrics. My lyrics have always been real important to me so I always make sure that I put a lot into them.

Sixshot.com: What projects can we look out for from Spider Loc?

Spider Loc: I’m definitely out here working hard man and all the fans can expect to see a mixtape a month for the whole year of 2008. A mixtape every single month. Every month, I promise that.

Sixshot.com: Anything you'd like to say to all your fans out there?

Spider Loc: I appreciate all the support I get from the fans out there. I’d just like to say to keep your ears wide open because I’m gonna get all up in them in a second so everybody pay attention and be on the

I just wish Crook would do the same as Spider and put out some street albums (not mixtapes) in retail stores while he waits to put out his official one.
