I never post, but love Dubcnn and fans insight. I figured this album by Game too me is epic enough to try and open some real eyes about how this album is by far better than most albums this century. I worked in the music industry, so I can give a real insight especially since I know more than half the "Real BULLSHIT" Game had to go through to even reach Album 3. Also I'm a major hip hop head, so basically if you are under the age of 16 you probably won't really appreciate this post, but real hip hop heads and industry insiders will. Sensitive niggas please stay out the post or really read and try to understand my review. BTW How the Fuck they take Busta off this Album?
The Game LAX
1. Intro) DMX
This was and is a perfect way for Game to start his album with a Legend opening up for him and saying a prayer. If hip hop was a college Game would be on the Deans list, because he knows and respects his hip hop history. DMX one of the last rappers from the Golden age of Hip Hop (Before that Soulja Boy garbadge, though I respect an 18 yr old Nigga making his money and doing something positive) gives game the respect and co - sign most in hip hop might not give him because of his beefs and sometime bi - polar personality. Great way to open up.
2. LAX FILES)
Wow, games really impressed me and used his name dropping skills to give you a very detailed and real depiction of what the streets of Los Angeles, and how much that west coast lifestyle has been imitated across the world and through hip hop, but unfortuantely won't give the west coast the props for the lifestyle alot of rappers have stolen. He also is breaking down to you that L.A. is not just movies, niggas is really dying for that gang banging lifestyle that these rap niggas are treating like a fad. He letting you know don't believe those movies, or your favorite rapper who's not from LA, who all the sudden is a Blood or Crip now. It don't matter how much money you got or who you are you can get got out in LA, he just wants niggas to give LA its due. Unfortuantely this song will probably just go over alot of peeps heads, but to me it's oen of his best and most descriptive tracks. J.R. kills the beat. Wouldn't Nippsey Hussle be perfect on a remix of this track?
3. State of Emergency)
When i firts heard about this track i like most was expecting an Ice Cube verse, but after hearing the dirty version I'm glad Cube just did the hook, because Game murdered this track by himself and Ice Cube brought the flavor with the hook. Game really brought back that 90's feeling of hip hop when the West Coast was on top and just being form the West Coast was enough to get you a record deal. I swear J.R. Rotem be saving his best beats for Game, having talked to J.R. I know he loves working with Game and he's one of his favorite artists to work with. He has a great feel of how to build a beat for Game. Game once again gives a very vivid picture of a day in the life of Cali, this si a song that every west coast rapper should want to be on. Like Spice 1 said once, how can you hate on Game if you form the West, he the only one who been holding it down on a national level, i'M NOT SAYING NIGGAS LIKE Crooked I, or Glasses, Spider, Bishop, or Jay Rock aren't dope. All I'm saying is Game is the one who's held it down on a NATIONAL Level for the West during the time fo Southern and East Coast dominance in hip hop. Game takes you through the streets of LA again and is on point with his lyrics and as usual giving his homage to West Coast legends throughout the track. Cube knows this track gonna bump for years.
4. Bullet Proof Diaries ft. Raekwon)
This is a track everyone in hip hop should love. This shit sound like some 95 -97 grimey Nas, Biggie type shit. This is one of the best tracks on the album and to me, shows Game's growth and should keep the haters at bay with that he ain't lyrical type shit. This vivid storytelling between Raekwon and Game is the type of shit Biggie would love to come out of the grave and rap on. I know niggas on the East gonna have a new type of respect for Game after they hear this one. Game shows of his East Coast influence on this track and holds his own with one of the most lyrical rappers in the Game. I'm not gonna lie Raekwon shocked me with this track, i thought he fell off, I think he was happy and revived to be rapping with a real hip hop head and get back on his 90's storytelling shit. I can't wait for Cuban LinxII now and Game and the Chef's next collabo. West coast niggas stop the coastal bias, because it sounds like a straight east coast track and respect one of your own shows West Coast niggas can be lyrical.
5. My Life)
I like this track and think Lil Wayne killed it with the hook, my only critique is I wish Game would've talked about his "LIFE" nad not incorporate others. I feel this was a track where he coudlve reflected on all the shit he's been trhough and all the tradgedies he's seen in his life, like the death of "Billboard, the trial and tribulations with his brother Fase, the death of his brother Charles, growing up in a foster home, the Rape of his sister by their father, being a Piru, being left for dead by his mentor DRE and INTERSCOPE after hsi G-UNIT BEEF (Yes ya'll Ivone was done wtih Game after the 50 beef, and changed his mind after seeing the success of the Doctor's Advocate and seeing game could do it alone without DRE and 50, they really was gonna leave the nigga on the shelf if Henchmen and others didn't push that 2nd album out. I'm sure Ivoine is glad he didn't listen to 50 and went with his gut and stuck it out with Game. Though that definitely cost him his relationship with 50.) Like I said I feel Game's OWN life was full of enough tradegdies and drama, for him to talk about. But to his credit his style is to Report, so he incorporates others lives in hip hop and mixes it with personal pain to create a song .
This to me is one of his best. The video was done right and should put this song at teh top of teh charts. So once again Game puts out another great song.
6. Money)
Rick Ross is somewhere dumbfounded how Cool and Dre gave this banger to Game, and how he missed out on a perfect lead single for his 3rd album. This track is a certified banger, INTERSCOPE BETTER NOT FUCK UP AND NOT MAKE THIS A SINGLE. If 50's "I Get Money" was a monster, this track is GODZILLA. Game kills it with the quotables and every nigga in hip hop gonna FREESTYLE over this track. This is the club banger everyone says game doesn't make. This gonna be played in future gangster movies I SWEAR TO YOU. Cool and Dre, I know for a fact love working with Game, and were more excited for peeps to hear this track then all the others they did for Game. THis track si 10/10. DJ KLHEAD AND THEM MIAMI BOYS GONNA PLAY THIS LIKE CRAZY IN SOUTH BEACH. Ross better holla at Cool and Dre for a make up track. LOL
7. California Sunshine)
This is a track that has to grow on you. Not really my favorite, but I like Game's lyrics on this track and the beat is funky. It's a good album track that will you can ride to in teh whip. I love Bilal's hook though. Also it's a good track to let Tourists know be CAREFUL when you on the LEFT COAST. But you gotta love this line "we couldn't find Biggie's Killer, so we gave Puffy a star.) Also that chain snatching line is so real ask alot of these rappers,w ho had to holla at West Coast niggas for teh connect to get their shit back.
8. YA HEARD)
This si a track I'm iffy on, the beat is a banger, but I feel like Luda's and Game's lyrics would've been better on another beat. I'm sure Game wishes he had that Original beat him and Luda were supposed to rap on (If you an industry nigga you know what I'm talking about) So this track to me is nothing special, and is just something i don't bump much. Don't worry the track with Game and Luda makes up for this track, you guys will love that one.
9. interlude)
i DON'T care for interlude's
10. House of Pain)
Game just lets his lyrics spit on this one, and Toomp gives him a banger. This track is a good album cut and like Game's hook, but it's not a special track to me. INTERSCOPE IF YOU GET ON THIS SITE, DON'T MAKE THIS HIS NEXT SINGLE. GO WITH "MONEY", THIS TRACK IS NOT A SINGLE.
11. Gentleman's Affair - Ne- Yo
Okay this track is where I gotta hate. How the fuck did they keep this track and take Camera Phone off the album? Man they fucked up big time, this track way below Camera Phone. game really don't do good "Single" type tracks when it comes to make songs for Girls anyways, this should've been a leftover. I really hope Interscope and Ivoine made the call on this one and not Game.
12. Let us Live ft. Chrisette Michelle)
Whoa, that nigga Game went in on this track. lyrically he killed it and his Nas Flow was so on point I'm sure Nas let him know he can be his stand in for a performance sometime. Lol. I know the haters will be out on this one, because they will say Game trying to sound like Nas on this track. Guess what YES HE IS. THIS ain't no bullshit Dre impersonation from Strip Club, Game switching his style to pay omage and get his East niggas to feel him on this track. ONCE again Haters get off the fact Game name drops and impersonates "THATS HIS STYLE" it's his 3rd album expect it. This beat is sick, Scott Storch made me think he had this beat in 97 and couldn't get it to Jay-z back then. Once again game takes us back into the Golden Age of hip hop the 90's with his flow and lyrics on this track. A real hip hop head will love this track it's classic. Haters who will say, man why he sounding like an East Coast nigga on his album, understand YOU MAKE ALBUMS FOR THE WORLD. NOT JUST YOUR COAST, SOMETHING RAPPERS AND ESPECIALLY WEST COAST RAPPERS NEED TO UNDERSTAND. Timeless msuic is great music, regardless of the sound.
13. Touchdown ft. Raheem Devaughn
This track really isn't my type of track, but i appreciate it and it's Game's best attempt to make a song for Women, besides (Camera Phone, damn I wish I was his A&R ) This some smooth shit the girls will love and will have a good cross over appeal, and have all the girls looking for a "Touchdown" Raheem Killed the hook. I'm sure Jimmy Ivoine is patting himself on the back somewhere for this track. This is a good Album track and could be a good Single (Only AFTER "Money" INTERSCOPE.)
14. Angel ft. Common)
First of all NIGGAS better give Common his props as one of the best rappers in the game. Major pros for Kanye to giving Game a real funky track, Kanye needs to do a remix and drop a verse on this cut. I wonder if he pissed he didn't keep this one for himself. LOL I'm really surprised how well Game and Common went together on this track. This track once again shows Game's lyrical growth and YES he Name Drops, but he makes it flow so well and go well this track. This is one of the best tracks Game has ever done, and his metaphors are ridiculous on this track. Once again I love how he gives homage on this track and how he uses his hip hop history to make a Classic track. This will be a favorite of everyone, and really helps diversify a great album.
15. Never Gon Say goodbye ft. Latoya Williams
First let me say when I heard about this track, my expectations were so high I knew it would be so impossible for Game to reach them. This concept is where Game shows his musical Genius and why he is in the Top 5 of all rappers living right now. (Remember I said rappers right now). No first of all props to E.P. for lacing Game with a dope dark beat. My personal opinion is Game bodied that 2pac Verse, he was so vivid with it and kept it so simple and made you really think he was in Pacs mind in those last moments. I know people will love the Biggie one, but to me it's not as good as Pacs. I felt he could've came with better lyrics for the 2nd Verse as Biggie, but it was still dope, and his Biggie impersonation was real dope. Now the Easy E verse, first let em give Game props for always bigging up Easy, most niggas don't even mention him as a legend and a ICON. But as far as the verse, I'm not really feeling it. I felt he could've gone more introspective with easy, and said better lines, but hey it's my opinion. Now as far as the hook, let me say i love Latoya, but she had no business on this track. The chorus was weak, and took away from the track. I know he's used too much, but man I wish the nigga would've reached out to Akon for this track, this is a track where Akon would've took the time and sat down with game and come up with a perfect hook for this one. Don't even front Akon could've bodied this chorus like he did the two he did for Bone. Regardless teh concept is Genius and I'm shocked no one has done this before. I still think this really is a great track and memorable, that I'll still bum on the daily because it makes you really think what might have they been thinking in those final moments. Once again a great Concept that makes a great well rounded album, rappers take not try something new. Also it's perfect the hip hop Reporter does this track.
16. DOPE BOYS FT. TRAVIS BARKER
I mean I don't have much to say but turn this shit way up and roll the windows down this track is a banger. It made me feel a lot better after Game decided not to push Big dreams as his lead single (Don't believe the Hype Game made that call not Ivoine.) The chorus is infectious, the Video si so dope (Good looking Skee, you got a future besides Djing nigga, do more Videos) Travis killed it on the drums, and this track should be an anthem, but unfortunately looks like it won't. He should do a Coastal remix of this track, but thats just a dream. Jeezy would've been good on this track with him. This track to me is classic and something I'll bump for years.
17. Game's Pain FT. KEYSHIA COLE)
Now originally I was thrown off by the title after hearing the songa nd teh chorus, until I learned (Keyshia and her people changed the Chorus, ya she ain't dumb she wnat her publishing checks) Regardless Game and her made a timeless song,a nd a feel good song that Game really hasn't had before. Yes he name drops all over the place (That's who he is get used to it) This track is perfect for him, as he pays homage through the concept of teh song, I'm tellin you this nigga is a HIP HOP Scholar, if you love hip hop (Forget the beefs, the bi polar, and some of the bullshit if you know him he's on) just analyze hsi music, this nigga is the bets thing to happen to hip hop in a long time. And don't start with the niggas past or street CRED CUZ, If I let you know about half your favorite rappers, and if you know me you know what I'm talking about you would hate almost all of these rappers with the exception of Shyne and a few others and trust me if Syne could go back he wouldn't have Rode like he did. Guess what Biggie wasn't a killer (The niggas around him and backing him were, don't believe Long Kiss goodnight. Pac and I love Pac he would ride, but he really wasn't mr. super gangster, the niggas around him were. Most of these rappers only heard or seen the shit they rap about, I know it's hard pill to swallow for teh fans who believed every lyric and ryhme you heard, i know it hurt my heart too when I entered the "Entertainment biz" to only learn it was entertainment). I go on these tangents throughout to review to challenge your thinking and to remember love the music, you don't have to love the peoeel who make the music, because if you really knew them you wouldn't like most of them. Back to the review this track si Classic and made this album special.
18. LETTER TO THE KING FT NAS
I'm convinced Nas looks at Game as his hip hop little brother and just respects his heart and his music, and the fact he likes to stick it to Jigga every now and again. J/K Seriously Game and Nas make incredible tracks, i wish label politics weren't what they are these days and it would be ok to get two features from the same artist on your album. BTW, INTERSCOPE you fucked up, you know DAMN well "Red Magic" should've been on this album. Now back to the song. Man Game and I'll let you know something i know Game on personal level (Not best buddies, or even talk to him anymore, but know him) and also know a lot of his people and as a person let's just say he ain't my favorite nigga, But I got mad love for some of his niggas. So I've been able to separate Game the person from his music, so don't think this is one of Game's lackies writing this review. This track with Nas, Game really shines and his subject matter really shows his growth on this album. This song si classic, and if you don't like this song you probably just a Game hater, or just don't know music. They pay homage perfectly to Dr. King here and really give you some memorable lines. THIS TRACK IS ANOTHER CLASSIC NAS AND GAME COLLABO. You can just tell Game and Nas just Love Hip hop and when they get together it's always a good time.
19. OUTRO DMX
It's great DMX Takes Game out on this classic album. I hope Game really cares about that nigga DMX, and will try to help the nigga with whatever Demons he's fighting.
Ok to sum up my Review I will say this. Yes this album is a Classic, and don't start with man he has way too many features on it. Biggie's "Life After Death" had more features than Hollywood STD'S. Pac's all eyez on me the same. Those albums were classics. A classic isn't determined by how many features you have or don't have on the album, it's determined by the songs, and Game put together a very thought provoking and all around album that should appease anyone no matter what Coast you from. Like I said judge the music, don't judge the man behind the music, strictly judge the music and tell me this isn't of the best albums to come out in the 200's. Stop fronting on this nigga because of his personal life, musically this nigga does the damn thing. Legends in hip hop give the nigga his props, so it's time the fans and critics do the same. Look at how much bullshit comes out in hip hop since, the DEAtH OF THE LEGENDS PAC AND BIGGIE, look at how much better hip hop was in the 90's it actually meant something back then and wasn't a gimmick. And if you can't appreciate Game's music, then maybe Nas is right Hip Hop is dead. Fuck this niggas Beefs, his Music is better than 90 percent of hip hop right now, he gives you that 90's feeling back when the shit actually mattered about lyrics and not beats. And what the fuck, is wrong with hip hop when we judge a classic album, buy how the beats sound? The beats are just added elements to music, don't get me wrong they're important but what happened to carrying about the lyrics a nigga is spitting over hot beats? Now can I say this is up their with ready to Die or the Chronic, or All Eyez on Me? I don't know ask em that question 10 years. What I can say this is better than or as good as any hip hop album that came out this decade. Stop being a hater and remember what made you a hip hop fan. Pick up Game's album on August 26th LAX, no matter what Coast your from and support real hip hop, and hope this ain't his last album, we've lost enough legends.
P.S. Yes thats right this album makes Game a Legend.

I agree, must be Games best song. That beat is funky and this combination is awesome! Will need to find some more favorites so won't overplay this, would be a shame. 8)

Good review. I agree wiith most of it. I wasn't blown away by the album on first listen, but shit grows on you like mad. It literally shits on every other hip-hop album released this year. Game dropped another classic.

Im listening to it on a quality system right now and still cant handle that beat aye lol, shit just sounds messy! Luda fits well over it, but damnnn usually Games got the maddest ear for beats! only slip up beat wise on the album though I liked that Bulletproof Diaries one
-
You read this review and quickly realise it's a Stan
-
Damn... I'd love to hear the original chorus for Game's Pain. imo it was the weakest part of the song - maybe itll show up like the why you hate the game og did on a mixtape

Theres another hook for WYHTG?
-
radio edit, its on YKWII4
-
i can live with your review, it's not bad and you're entitled to your opinion -- because i definitely wouldn't call this the absolute best album to drop this decade. it is a dope album and i feel Game is 3/3 on his albums...which is ironic because that's exactly how DMX started too.
but calling Game a 'Legend' is real premature. as a matter of fact, you have to be Game himself to say a couple of the things you said.
but just so you know Chuck, i enjoyed your album enough to purchase one on official release.
-
the review is on point....To me, its Game's best album. I think hes got better with each album. The only track I would take off is the one with Neyo...But its still a classic album IMO.
-
Only weak songs on this album were Ya Heard, Gentlemens Affair and Touchdown, the rest were BANGIN!!!
-
I'm a lil disappointed by the name dropping. Game picked some powerful beats and I would've liked to see him get personal on them as opposed to his usual "more hood than Suge" and "like MJB no more drama now" lines.
-

Well he has always done that same namedropping on his albums, someone said that his mixtape music is different. Don't know about that one though.
-
Touchdown is one of my top 5 tracks on the album. And the joint with Ne-Yo is fire. I have never seen a wide ranging opinion on one album. To me thats the signs of a good album. It has something for everybody. I love that touchdown, but I hate Cali Sunshine, and Ya Heard. Game did his thing, looking forward to some bonus cuts being released.
-
i'd love to say whoa great, deep review etc like the rest of you but i can't take this seriously. whoever wrote it is showing very heavy bias toward game. for example on track 3 "Cube knows this track gonna bump for years". seriously now this album is cool but it isn't a classic by any stretch of the imagination. i guess it must be because i'm not a real hip-hop head ::)
-

Yeah, but its worse. it was on you know what it is vol 4

you share my thoughts great review and yeah I'm definitely putting Camera Phone on there instead of Gentleman's Affair
