i thought there performance on sunday was outstanding. against a team that are no slouches no less. There midfield was brilliant and played with alot of freedom. i thought deco blended right in for his first game even tho he should of been sent off after 3 minutes. that tackle was horrendous.

The press are seriously getting there panties wet.

They add one creative midfielder and a new manager and they go from one of the most boring teams in the league to brazil  ::)

Im looking forward to seeing them implode.

i think deco is a great player, and he should do well at the bridge for now but can you imagine him traveling to away games at blackburn and bolton in january? won't be effective away from the bridge against big tough teams.

also find it strange that the press are saying deco is the man to bring the trophies back. The guy is in his 30's and no disrespect to him but he isn't physical enough for the premiership

WHEN you look at Phil Scolari’s track record, we should not be too surprised by the dazzling football Chelsea delivered in their opening match.

The 4-0 hammering of Portsmouth featured some sensational stuff.

I’ve never seen the home team at Stamford Bridge play like this before. I was genuinely amazed by the midfield of Frank Lampard and Deco.

This threatens to be one of the most spectacular partnerships of the season.

When Deco rolled into west London, I wasn’t the only one who thought Lampard’s future at Chelsea was coming to an end.

Yet before signing his new contract last week, I am convinced Scolari put his arm round Frank and said: ‘Deco’s here to complement you, not replace you’.

They looked like they’d been playing together for years and Chelsea’s performance was certainly ominous for the rest. The fact they played with such style made the result even better.

I don’t know of many players - however good - who have arrived from overseas and fitted in quite so quickly.

Deco’s skill has always been obvious but physically, he held his own against the Portsmouth midfield.

Michael Essien has yet to return but if Deco and Frank are able to develop their understanding, then Chelsea will become even more of a force this term, particularly when you remember Didier Drogba has still to come in.

Nicolas Anelka was on fire up front against Pompey. Joe Cole was outstanding while it was the best I’d seen Ashley Cole play for two years.

Scolari has arrived with great respect and the players are listening. He has let the REALLY good players know they that have some freedom which was not the case under Jose Mourinho.

The spirit has always been there at Chelsea, but when top players are allowed to express themselves, the results can be spectacular.

As for Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United, I am not going to write them off on the strength of a home draw with Newcastle.

They had Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez missing but I’m giving loads of credit to Newcastle. They travelled to Old Trafford and delivered a fantastic display.

For United, there’s no doubt that Dimitar Berbatov could be a welcome addition.

It didn’t surprise me some of the Spurs fans booed him at Middlesbrough and to be honest, I could hardly blame them.

The player has made it crystal clear where he wants to be playing his football and it’s not at White Hart Lane.

Arsenal’s big positive was the Samir Nasri’s performance in the West Brom win.

But worryingly, like last season, they had lots of possession without having too much of an end product. The team needs Cesc Fabregas, Rosicky and Eduardo to return as soon as possible.

It’s early days but the new-and-improved Chelsea, along with United, will take some stopping.

Press getting carried away. May be the same old cliches but cliches are truisms, one game doesnt make a season, christmas/easter time will be crucial etc etc.
