My biggest regret isn't taking the FDNY exam a few years back, now I have to wait until 2011 for the next test. Good luck with the job though.

Yeah, if you miss that opportunity you have to wait a while. Toronto had a recruitment in 2002 and didn't accept applications again until March of '08.
If you really want in just use the time to build up your resume, study for the test(s) and prepare for an interview.

So sick, you have one year probation and start with 3 weeks vacation, 18 sick days, a few lieu days, full benefits, a good pension plan, etc. And you work 91 days a year. ;)
Not to mention you can't ask for better job security, there are NEVER lay offs and you'd have to REALLY fuck up to get fired.
I start with 12 weeks of recruit training one week today.
I don't get it, how is that possible ?

Yea I know but by 2011 I will be 26-27 and I wont get a job until I am about 27-28 and I start at $40,000 and thats what I am making now so by then I should be making more then what I am now. But then again the benefits with the FDNY are amazing and you are out after 20 years. And after 5 years with OT and vacation you make around $80,000-85,000 a year. Say 4 years from now I am making good money I don't want to take a step back money wise. We will see I guess.
