The Dodgers addressed their offense for the stretch run by acquiring Manny Ramirez. Now it looks like they've done something about the pitching staff.
The Los Angeles Times reported on Monday night that the team had completed a deal with the Padres for veteran right-hander Greg Maddux. Citing an anonymous person close to the deal, the newspaper did not know who San Diego would receive in return.
Maddux has a 3.99 ERA this season but is only 6-9 for a Padres team that has languished in last place in the weak NL West. The Dodgers moved into a first-place tie with the Diamondbacks in the division on Sunday.
Los Angeles had a need for another starter, however, after putting right-hander Brad Penny on the disabled list last week.
This will be Maddux's second stint with the Dodgers. The Cubs traded him to Los Angeles at the trade deadline in 2006 and he went 6-3 in the regular season for the Dodgers. Los Angeles lost to the Mets in the divisional series.
The Dodgers completed a trade for Ramirez with the Red Sox on Aug. 1, and he has batted .421 with six homers and 21 RBIs for Los Angeles.

Maddux shoulda never left the Dodgers for the Madres in the 1st place. They're a bunch of losers. Why Gwynn & Hoffman wanted 2 spend their entire careers there is beyond me :eh: . If they never foolishly traded all their great talent in their history, they coulda been the Yankees of the NL & the west coast.

might be a decent move
god knows san diego wasnt a good place for him
-
He is actually having a respectable season, he just get no run support.
-
i like it. i was in favor of resining him in 07. if he can do something simillar to what he did for us in 06, we'll be straight.
and on top of that, the knowledge he brings to our pitching staff is worth the trade, even if he didnt pitch a single inning. brad penny couldnt stop praising the mad dog for all the help he gave him and our staff. billingsley and kershaw have been awesome as of late, now with the mad dog being our 'clubhouse pitching coach' they can only be better. ooooooo weeeeeee! :bandit:
GO DODGERS!!
-
yea why the fuck did he go back to the Padres?
good pickup...

It's gonna be fun to watch...

We'll see how Maddux does for the rest of the season. He's only pitched good at Petco Park this season. They should change the rotation to where he only pitches at Dodger Stadium, and try to avoid pitching at places like Colorado, AZ, and Philly

i'm just waiting to see who we give up.
this could be really big or really bad in the future.
-
might be a decent move
with Penny out for the year it's the only move
to fill a spot in your rotation, why not gamble on Maddux...

Probably going to be an unimportant 26 year old career minor leaguer or two.
-
yeah no big whoop, i doubt we had the next longoria or griffey in that trade.
c'mon greg!
