Title: Ice Cube Only Going To Move 65k First Week
Post by: LongBeachsFinest on August 20, 2008, 01:13:35 PM

Hollywood’s teenpop heartthrobs will get another week to strut their stuff at the head of the class.

The Jonas Brothers will stay #1 A Little Big Longer, even if they lose the usual 60-70% from their first-week total of 515k.

The summer’s surprise smash, Decca’s Mamma Mia! soundtrack, will battle it out for #2 with Atlantic’s Kid Rock and Atlantic’s Staind, the week’s biggest debut, somewhere in the 95k range.

Other Top 50 bows will include The Firm Music/EMI’s Ice Cube (65k) and Suretone/ Interscope’s Shwayze, which is trending toward 45k right now, but could go even higher with multiple showings of the Buzzin’ reality series on MTV this week. Finally, Fueled By Ramen/Decaydance Chicago emo-rockers The Academy Is… looks in the 30k range for their new album, Fast Times at Barrington High.

Overall, the market was up 2% vs. last week, down 13% vs. same week last year, and still hovering around 11% year-to-date, which brings up this thought: Can Michael Phelps sing? How about his mom?

"Why We Thugs" was a bigger single than "Do Ya Thang". It got many spins on BET thats prolly why Raw Footage ain't sell as much first week but hopefully Cube will get another gold plaque with this record.

65k is a bust for someone like Ice Cube.  I mean, cmon man, he's ICE CUBE.  This was his own fault.  This is what he gets for not putting Kanye West, T-Pain, Akon, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Fat Joe, Chris Brown, Nas, and DJ Khaled on his album.  I mean, cmon man, The Game knows the business and he collabs with the top cats in the business like I just named off.  This is why he moves units and debuts at #1 with his first two records.  And a lot of people are giving 65k a free pass saying "it's indy."  That's just an excuse.  If he sold 150k his first week people would be saying "He sold 150k and IT WAS ON AN INDY."  People are giving Cube a free pass like the media gives Brett Favre a free pass with his all-time interception record.  Cube messed up big time with this one and it's an embarrassment to his album catalog.  We all know he can do way better than this and if all the current artists like Nas, The Game, Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, all work together, then why can't Cube get with the program instead of wasting his time with small timers -- sorry Cube, but you're not going to put up Lil Wayne numbers when your album headliners are artists like Butch Cassidy.  Where is Chris Brown? Where is Bobby Valentino? Where is DJ Khaled? Where is Nas? No T-Pain. No Akon.  E-40 making big dollars collabing with T-Pain and Akon and he's repping the West.  This just shows E-40, The Game, Too Short, Snoop Dogg are the West Coast and they are miles ahead of Ice Cube.  We all know he is capable of doing so much better and that's why it's dissapointing.

you essentially just said you want ice cube to re-make flo-rida's album. theres something called integrity and then theres something else that goes with it called good music. look em up.

indie usually needs something around 10k to recoup, so cubes already making bank.

peep the new allhiphop interview with cube. he clearly said that he was tired of people telling him what to do and who to collab with just cause that cat is hot at the moment. cube is not aiming for all that, and he's not aiming for big sales either. he's trying to make a statement and reach his core audience. so why get a song from t-pain?!

HIS LAST DID BOUT 500K , I THINK RAW FOOTAGE WILL MAKE LESS (in few numbers) cuz of progressive internet leaking and link spreading.

the numbers modern artists make today, cuz of rnb elements or t-pain voices (bitches like this so they buy albums), neither of them contains raw footage - so bitches aint interesed in gangsta rap/baracuda swag. so it will be hard to sell 200k.

Hip hop records don't really sell anymore - unless it's Lil Wayne or Kanye. Even Terminate On Site has sold less than 200k and it's been out for a while and it's got no less than 50 Cent, until recently thought of as the biggest star in hip-hop, all over it.

I'm a bit concerned about LAX' sales prospects. I think Game should be happy if he goes gold this time around, even though the album is amazing.

Lench Mob (cubes record label) will be getting around $6.00 an album!

$6 x 65.000 units - = $390.000

budget (production, features, studio, staff, promo) $150k - maximum

remaining = $240.000 first week

40k will go to the next video and promotion

so thats somewhere around $200k FIRST week, and he could max out around 350.000 units . .you do the math

You hit the nail on the head. But still, why would cube waste his budget on a wack muthafucka like Young Jeezy? especially money better suited for premier producer ....*cough D.R.E.*
