Title: The hottest team in baseball
Post by: herpes on August 21, 2008, 08:22:45 PM
The New York Mets.... 9 out of there last 10... 12 out of there last 15... with no Billy Wagner and a bullpen that will give you a ulcer every time they are called upon.  As a Mets fan I should know better b/c I am setting myself up for huge disappointment.  Mike Pelfrey = future ace

Mets have been playing well, but the starting pitching/bullpen can't support a true playoff run.

The Mets starting pitching is 2nd in ERA in the Majors.

What I mean to say by this is that past santana, and a streaky perez they have a tough time matching up against the top three starters of other playoff bound clubs.  I dont think Pedro has any gas left.  The team era has been good, but they was bolstered by good bullpen pitching...they have had to use it a lot this year, and now that wagner is done...it looks suspect.

The ERA I posted is the startes ERA not the entire rotation.  And Santana is well Santana, Mike Pelfrey has really stepped into his own and is looking like a potential ace, and Oliver Perez may be streaky but steps up against good teams.  It crappy teams you have to watch out for lol.  And Pedro may not be the Pedro of old but he is finally healthy and he may not throw as hard as he once did but is still a very smart pitcher and better then what majority of teams have at the end of the rotation.  The Mets staff can go toe to toe with any rotation in baseball.  The Bullpen though... thats another story.  Even with Wags the bullpen was suspect and he can't save a big game to save his life.

He is at the same time he is the white Amando Benitez.  He also has 7 blown saves this season and mind you he hasn't pitched in 2 weeks.  He is a very important to the bullpen but has also done his fair share of not coming through thus far this season.

I didn't see this coming either.  Though for a while I knew Randolph was a horrible manager.  And truth be told he doesn't deserve another job in the bigs until he drops the whole "I'm a winner" routine and go and manage in the minors and learns how to manage.  In all my years watching the Mets he was hands down the worst in game manager I have watched.  I knew that back in 05 when the head umpire had to tell him how to do a double switch.  But I thought he was a good club house type of manager but that wasn't true when he lost the team back in june/july of 07.
