Celtics Sign Former First-Rounder Miles
Veteran Forward Missed Past Two Seasons Due To Injury
BOSTON -- The Celtics added a new piece to their championship roster Friday when they signed forward Darius Miles, a former first-round pick. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The 6-foot-9-inch, 235-pound Miles was drafted third overall by the Los Angeles Clippers in 2000. In 412 NBA contests, Miles has posted career averages of 10.6 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.15 blocks.
Before an injury forced him out of action, Miles, 26, averaged 16.9 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.2 blocks per game as a starter for the Portland Trailblazers in the 2005-2006 season.
He averaged 16.9 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.2 blocks per game for the Clippers in the 2000-2001 season, becoming the first player in NBA history to receive All-Rookie honors straight out of high school.
“Darius has been in twice for workouts with us and has impressed us with his progress, health and attitude,” Celtics General Manager Danny Ainge said. “Darius will have the next couple of months to prove to myself and Coach Rivers that he can help us win.”
Miles, who is from Bellville, Ill., the hometown of former Red Sox first baseman Brian Daubach, missed each of the past two seasons recovering from microfracture surgery on his right knee.
The veteran expressed enthusiasm for the opportunity to prove himself to the reigning NBA champions.
“I watched the Boston Celtics play a lot last year and loved what I saw in their teamwork and chemistry on the court, and it’s the team I want to try to resume my career with,” he said. “I am excited about having an opportunity to play on a team that I feel my personality fits with and a team that can have great success on the court."
Miles also played for the Cleveland Cavaliers and most recently Portland during his seven NBA seasons.

I just hope he plays atleast 10 games so he can fuck up Portland's cap space.

LOL, even IF he is still on the roster after training camp and IF he manages to prove durable enough to play in 10 games, Portland can reapply to have his money taken off the cap. And even assuming they can't get him taken back off the cap, we will still have 15-20 million in cap space to work with. This has very little significant effect on Portland's cap space. BUT, all of this is probably going to prove to be moot anyway since his knee wont allow him to play the way he used to. His biggest attribute was his athleticism and that's essentially gone now. The rookie they signed has a better shot of actually making the roster than he does. An unguaranteed contract is little more than an agreement by Miles to come to Boston's training camp and not talk to other teams. Boston would have to sign him on for the whole season if they wanted to ruin Portland's cap space (NBA max of 3 10 day contracts + Miles' 10 game suspension = will have to sign on for the year to play 10 games). I doubt Boston is making it a priority to take a chunk out of the cap space of a team they play twice a year.

the term "N.B.A. CHAMPION" is missing from the title ;)
-
well at least we know boston won't repeat as champs now.

Some of you are trippin...Miles was in his prime when he got injured. Assuming he can get back into playing ship, this can be a nice acquisition for Boston. Miles is like a mini-Odom, he has all around game on both ends...as long as he's healthy enough to play, which according to the article, he is.

not according to the doctors that the NBAPA appointed on his behalf though (doctors acting in his interest)...

Miles is like a mini-Odom
oh god no
-
its tre tho miles is a great player especially on the defensive end and in my opinion should he stay healthy he would be equal to what posey provided or them. under rated move in my books, boston have nothing to lose.

Miles is like a mini-Odom
oh god no
THATS WHAT I WAS THINKING

LOL damn...honestly though, Boston would be lucky if he can produce at half of his former ability. His knee is basically bone on bone - no cartilage. I wish him the best but there is a reason he hasn't played in 2 years and was deemed by doctors to be unable to perform at an NBA level.
-
ehhh
i just dont want him to be like Odom
-
In shape?

^LOL
why is he doing this to himself?
-
Miles is a talented player, why is everyone hatin on dude he at least deserves another chance..
-
^^^Because he doesn't have what his game was entirely based on anymore, ie explosiveness and lateral quickness. Maybe he has adjusted his game to it though. I guess we'll all see...
-
Miles is like a mini-Odom
oh god no
LOL...you guys WISH you could have Odom on your squad to replace Posey.

No way...Lamar is an excellent all-around player, and I stand by that. No way we woulda' made the finals without him. He's a huge part of any success the Lakers have been able to achieve, and he'll continue being that until the day he's gone...PeACe

And Shaq gave LA 3 rings. Look at the things you have to say about him now.

I can see Odom fucking it up in the playoffs, then not getting a new contract cause Bynum demands mad scrilla. So maybe in a year from now the hardcore diss threads will emerge. Can't wait!
Gasol = soft fuck
Odom = maybe the softest good black player in the league?
Bynum = young fuck
Kobe needs to teach his best teammates how shit goes down, niggas gettin old... turning 30 ain't no joke. SGs start to decline during their 12th, 13th or - at the latest - 14th season, they can't avoid it. I really wonder how he responds to the surgery, too. How's his right knee by the way?

Last I heard he's fully recovered and cleared to play. Not that I follow him all that closely, but thats what I heard.

10 bucks on 5 emphatic slam dunks will put him on the bench for the remainder of the season

LOL...look at your disses. you call Gasol a soft fuck, yet he's a power forward who's capable of holding down the center position. your franchis player is Nowitzki, twice as soft as Gasol, and Gasol is only our 3rd-4th option...Odom is far from soft, he's known as a warrior in LA, playing through injuries, and providing the best rebounding on the team from the 3 position. A very tough player. Bynum being a young fuck is supposed to be a negative? LMAO. when a dude is dominating at age 19, you KNOW there's some great things in store for him...As for Kobe, he's said himself that he feels better now than he did a couple years ago...the only problem is his pinky, which is an extremely minor and temporary "issue"...other than that, he's the most conditioned dude in the league, and we all know that Jordan's conditioning got him reaching his prime in his 30s, so Kobe will most likely be the same...Stop the hating. I know it's hard being a Mavs fan and all, but seriously, no reason to hate on the Lakers and pray for their downfall as much as you do...PeACe

sorry...i've read lots and lots about both players, and i've come to the conclusion that shaq is geniunely dirty, while kobe has been caught up in some dirt, but is not a dirty guy...ive followed both players much closer than you have, so i'd know...PeACe

Well super for you, buddy. Everybody has opinions. Yours is no more valuable than anyone's. A lot of poeple would say Kobe is a dirty, spoiled little bitch and it means just as much as your opinion on Shaq. And you still didn't explain what your point was.

Jordan joined the NBA as an older guy. He also took a break in his prime. He only had 13 seasons with the Bulls, 2 of them really short. That's 12 seasons, basically. Kobe had 12 seasons as well. Ain't that a bitch?
Bynum being a real nigga at 19 is good in the long run, but him being young right now is not the best thing for right now. You can't expect him to be a go-to guy in a Game 7 in the playoffs at this point... no way, dude.
Odom is soft mentally. He might be cool with playing hurt and a good rebounder, but he's still soft. Look at his ass never looking to beat KG on the dribble, even though it's a much better option than anything else is for him 1on1 against KG. Then, when the series is virtually over, he takes it to the hoop. Pathetic.
Look@Gasol during the final when shit hit the fan. He wasn't shit. Just a random player on the Spanish team, not the go-to guy or leader by any means. LoL@you bringing up Dirk in any conversation with me lately. I never claim him to be tougher than he is, and he's got nothing to do with the Lakers. Stop it.

What's your point? Jordan was in his prime the 2nd time he retired...Kobe still has many years left. Bynum, Gasol, and Odom are GREAT as 2nd, 3rd, and 4th options. You should stop looking to hate on the Lakers in any way possible to an obvious extent. I only bring up Dirk because he's your franchise player and you have the nerve to call other players soft when Gasol is a monster compared to Dirk...it's just funny to me, because you talk all this shit about the Lakers, and expect no retaliation, when the disses you use on the Lakers apply to your own team to a much higher extent...ya feel? better. Lakers=team of the future. Get over it.

posey was a key proponent to 2 different world champs
keep hating all ya want, deep down inside you hate Odom
