What are some of your favorite songs off of Snoop's multi-platinum classic which sold over 3 million albums "Da Game Is To Be Sold Not To Be Told." This was Snoop's No-Limit Debut album with Master P, the top cat in the industry in 1998. Snoop proved his critics wrong by selling all the records and in the interviews he told everyone this was like a "Doggystyle 2." I used to bump this album straight through over and over again when it came out. Some of my favorite songs are "Snoop World" w/ Master P, "Gin and Juice II," "Show Me Love," "Don't Let Go," "Hustle and Ball," "Tru Tank Dogz" w/ Mystikal, "Watcha Gon Do" w/ Master P, "Picture This" w/ Mia X, and of course the smash hit "Still A G Thang." Damn, he sold so many records man it was such a classic everyone was on there who was hot at the time like Master P, C-Murder, Mia X, Silkk The Shocker, Mystikal, Soopafly and Daz produced "Hoez, Money, & Clout." Can you say 3 million albums sold classic? Snoop was killin em.

LOL @ this album being considered a classic.
-
LOL! The funny part is the way he says the shit. Like he readin an advertisement.

LOL @ this album being considered a classic.
lol for real that album was garbage. . .
-
are you kidding me?? This was Snoop's album where he stepped out of the shadows of Death Row. People were all sayin he can't sell records without suge knight and dr. dre and he stepped out of the shadows and did 3 million and dropped that "still a g thang."
I just got done bumpin "D.O.G.'z Get Lonely 2" with Master P, Silkk, and Big Pokey.
This album sold waaaaaaay more than "Ego Trippin." Snoop even said this was his version of "Doggystyle 2" on MTV.
-
This is as classic as The Massacre.
-
Not a Classic, IMO
But these are my 4 fav track's off this album..
Snoop World
Still a G Thang
Doggz Gonna Get Ya
Hoes, Money & Clout

This is as classic as The Massacre.
Da Game Is To Be Sold > The Massacre
"Still A G Thang" is a classic track though, been always bangin that. "Gin & Juice II", "I Can't Take The Heat" and "The Game Of Life" are great songs too.

Indeed. This record is far from being a classic. He sold those 3 million copies because the name ''Snoop Dogg'' was established in the rap game after his first two records went multiple platinum. This record sold because of the name ''Snoop Dogg'' printed on the front cover and No Limit was hot in 1998. This is considered the worst album in Snoop's catalog.
-
Actually that album not so bad at all, No Limit/Southern influence all over the disc but still an aight cd

This was not true at all. Let me take you on a journey back to 1997. Snoop was trying to get "Smokefest" released on Death Row Records (it was later released as "Dead Man Walkin" years later) and Suge didn't think that the quality was good enough for a Snoop Doggy Dogg album at the time and that he had slipped off lyrically a bit. Then Snoop ran to the Long Beach Telegram and said he feared for his life and he wanted to leave Death Row Records. Suge sold his contract over to Master P at No Limit Records and Tha Dogg Pound stayed at Death Row Records. Big rumors were going around that Snoop had lost his touch and that he ran to the South and he needed Master P to sell records. Snoop was said to have been washed up since Tupac had ran Death Row before his death. Snoop got on MTV and said this album is going to be a "Doggystyle 2" coming soon. He dropped that "Still A G Thang" and everyone ran to the store to buy that album. He then followed it up with "Gin and Juice II" and a slew of singles. He dropped the "Doggy" from his name and became Snoop Dogg. He said this was his biggest album on MTV at the time where he had truely matured as an artist and that's why he dropped the "Doggy" (along with the fact that Suge owned that name). Snoop got with Beats By The Pound and dropped a classic and he answered his critics with 3 million albums sold and proved that he wasn't just another artist on Death Row and that he still had it without Dre or Suge.
I thought "Da Game Is To Be Sold..." was way better than "Tha Last Meal," "Ego Trippin," and "The Blue Carpet Treatment." I think The Blue Carpet Treatment is his worst by far. "Dead Man Walkin" is better than "The Blue Carpet Treatment." "No Limit Top Dogg" was his best album on NL Records and "Da Game..." is second.
"Still A G Thang," "Snoop World," "Gin & Juice II," and "Woof" are all tight tracks -- and D.O.G.z Get Lonely 2
Snoop Dogg -- D.O.G.z Get Lonely 2 ft. Master P, Silkk The Shocker, & Big Pokey (http://www.zshare.net/audio/17792384412c5364/) -- One of Snoop's best tracks ever..
Snoop Dogg -- Still A G Thang (http://www.zshare.net/audio/177924587b9f709e/)

Great Snoop albums:
1. Doggystyle
2. Tha Last Meal
3. Tha Blue Carpet Treatment
The rest are more or less garbage, although there are some cool cuts on "Paid Tha Cost To Be Da Boss". "R'n'G", "No Limit Top Dogg", "Da Game Is To Be Sold", "Ego Trippin'" and "Tha Doggfather" are all rather weak, IMO.
-
"Dead Man Walkin" was a solid album, but nowhere near "Tha Doggfather" or "Doggystyle"
I say:
01) Doggystyle - Death Row Records
02) Tha Doggfather - Death Row Records
03) Rhythm & Gangsta: The Masterpiece
04) No Limit Top Dogg - No Limit Records
05) Da Game Is To Be Sold - No Limit Records
06) Paid Da Cost To Be Da Boss - Doggystyle Records
07) Dead Man Walkin - Death Row Records
08) The Blue Carpet Treatment - Doggystyle Records
09) Tha Last Meal - No Limit Records
10) Ego Trippin - Doggystyle Records
If you want to throw his Snoop Dogg "Death Row Greatest Hits" in there which was released on Death Row Records I would say that would take the #2 slot and push the rest of them down.

You don't have take nobody on a journey nowhere. I remember 1997 and don't seem to be wearing the same rose-colored glasses as you. Yes, it sold. There are two kinds of big-selling albums though. The kind that sell a few million and people bump and the kind that sell and people use as drink coasters. Fact was Snoop might have said what he said when the album was coming out but everyone says that shit when albums are fresh on their plate. People always think their newest album is their best one. If they didn't, they wouldn't put new albums out. The history books are generally more honest. "Da Game" is not a classic album. It might be underrated to some, depending on your taste, but it didn't resonate with the majority of Snoop's fanbase when it was released. People didn't like No Limit Snoop. They wanted some West Coast shit. Hence why he came back with a lot of the usual suspects on his next one. The biggest thing people wanted was for him to fuck with Dre again and he did. It's the same thing with "Dr. Dre Presents... The Aftermath". It went platinum but is considered a dud because people that bought it didn't feel it.

Itīs Was A Good Album. Not A Classic. Some Tracks Were Fillers But It Had Some Good Tracks On It Too.
-
Dogz Get Lonely Too and C U When I Get There was the best cuts from this album for me... I don't feel 'Still A G Thang' at all as well as the rest of this album - def the worst Snoop album along R&G
-
movies def. one of my favs.
-
I don't think it's his worst. The last few (minus Ego Trippin which I actually think is one of his best in years) have been way worse. At the time it came out, I can see why it got hated on. It was a step down for Snoop but in hindisght, it's not nearly as bad as its reputation suggests.

lay low >>>>>>>>>>>>>>Da Game Is To Be Sold 8)

Best song is Hoes, money and clout. Great Soopa production, Daz with the scratches! Great DPG feel track from back in the days. Nice bouncy beat. Kind of a 'Soopafly - This type of flow or Westurn Union - Get ahh bar type feel bouncy track.
Snoop world had a great beat, but Master P wrecks the song as usual....thats the problem with the overall album. No limit artists...
and took me a while to notice, I guess when I grew up a bit (instead of early teen) I think the prodcution and hook/background vocals, make the ultimate RnB smooth track and D.O.Gs get lonely too. (RnB as in soulful RnB, not mainstream today RnB).
-
Still a G Thang, Woof, and Game Of Life are the best tracks.
-
it's a classic ?! :-X damm..
there R a few good tracks, like "Snoop World", "Gin & Juice II", "Show Me Love" or "Hoes, Money & Clout", but whole album? nothin' special

lol, i just downloaded this album and give it a listen, and all i can say it what the hell was i thinkin bumpin that shit when it dropped, terrible!!! smhl @ OP thinkin its a classic.
-
this album sucked. Master P ruins everything he touches.
-
Snoop World
Woof
Gin & Juice 2
Still a G Thing
20 Dollars to my Name
DP Gangsta
Doggz Gonna Get Ya
Hoez, Money & Clout
Get Bout it, and Rowdy
All pretty dope songs, if you dont mind the southern influence. Snoop raps pretty damn tight over the beats, and some of them DO have a westcoast feel to them. I really dont mind bangin this album once in awhile, not Snoops best work, but there are some dope tracks on it.
BTW, the only thing classic about this album was the blue plastic case it came in!
