Title: Death Row Crooked I vs. Treacherous Crooked I
Post by: pootypooty on August 28, 2008, 11:38:44 AM
My lil' brother used to bump Crook's music heavy back in '99 - '03. He used to have a gang of Crook's music from bootlegs that he acquired during that period of time. I asked him if I could burn off a bunch of those tracks the other night for nostalgic purposes, but he didn't have those bootlegs anymore except for a few tracks in mp3 on his computer, since his CD collection was jacked from his crib a few years ago.    :(

Needless to say, I prefer the old Death Row Crooked I. His delivery was more aggressive & raw than it is today. Sometimes I have trouble getting into his off-beat flow that he seems to employ in the majority of his songs today. It also depends on the kind of beat he's riding, otherwise the off-beat flow doesn't really do it for me. It feels lazy. But to each their own.

Back in his Death Row era, he would ride the hell outta every beat effortlessly without slipping. His flow seemed tighter back then versus today, but that's just my opinion.

However, his lyrical dexterity is just as strong if not stronger today than before? That's one thing I will give the nigga straight up. He's got bars times infinity.

At the end of the day though, if I were given a choice between hearing Crook's Death Row catalog or his yet released Boss album, I'd def go for the Death Row shit. Don't get it twisted though, I'll still take his Boss album too, but gimme that Death Row Crooked I first, then Boss.

Death Row Crooked I

he has some real idiots representing him now at his Dynsaty forums, gives him a very bad name and makes some DJs not play his music because of this.

yeah str8 up hes one of the best, possibly the best out as far as the most lyrical!

I like his death row stuff ("get off the block", "we ballin"and more) his stuff he did wit murder inc.
but I especially like tha creased khaki flow era, then came boom boom clap, then came cali boyz, then came str8 bosses, then came nwa, then came more heat after heat!

but damn we need a album period!!
all i ever wanted and the other one wit the piano

them traccs is fire, pure fire!!

This is one of my favorite Crooked I freestyles, point-blank. Listen to the aggressiveness in his delivery. Dude was going off.

Is this even a real question? Death Row Crooked I hands down.  When Suge Knight owned him, he made his best music -- "Raw Dawgs," "Bang On Em," "So Damn Hood," "Who Wants To Fuck Tonite" ft. Eastwood & Ja Rule, "Middle Finger Music" (Snoop Diss), "Death Rizzo," "Crook N Me," "Gangstaology," "G'd Up and Bang'd Out," "Drunk Drivin In My Glasshouse" ft. Tha Realest, "I Love The Ghetto To Death," "Gangsta Holiday,"  and tons of other tracks we will likely not get to hear unless someone leaks them like his tracks with Jadakiss, Too Short, The Outlawz, Daz Dillinger, The Outlawz, Juvenile, etc.

Post Death Row he has just been a complete let down.  First off, he asked for his release so he could drop an album and now all he does is trip over the fact Death Row didn't release "Say Hi To Tha Bad Guy" and never did anything to get his own music released such as he was offered to sign with Jay-Z on Roc-A-Fella back in 2004 and Irv Gotti offered him a deal he turned down with The Inc Records.  His music has slipped and he can't flow with the track.  Dissapointing tracks like "N.W.A.," "Boom Boom Clap," "Hoodstars," "Cali Boys," "Big Dreams" ft. Akon (copy off of The Game's track 'dreams').  He just sounds like a dictionary rapper that never evolved and can't flow with the track and tries to spit off-beat and outrun the beat with his recycled lyrics.

Actually, I'm not asking the nigga to go back to his Death Row style. Personally, it'd be interesting to hear his Death Row albums first, then Boss to see if he evolved as an artist or not? But from the few newer songs that I've heard from him, I'm assuming he'll be using that off-beat flow quite a bit on Boss?  ???

It's a shame that we'll probably never get to hear his Death Row shit though.

Shut the fuck up. Dynasty Online Community mods and admins are the reason why Kiss FM in London was playing "Dream Big". This is also because of us that Crooked I got played on KRCK FM and some other radio stations in the US and Europe. He won the contest to get featured on Black Ty's single thanks to us (too bad he retired, though). There wouldn't have been a "Evolution of A Boss" double album mixtape that got downloaded more 100 thousand of times without the Dynasty Online Community. And the list goes on and on.

So please, shut up.

BTW, my lil' brother suggested that if Crooked I ever did get his whole Death Row catalog back, that he oughta release a Remix version of all his Death Row shit and let Dre or Quik exec. produce the whole project? That'd be cool too.

I googled it and supposedly Hutch produced G'd Up & Banged Out as well as the OG version of So Damn Hood ft. Sisqo? If anyone can confirm this, then that'd be appreciated.

Here's G'd Up & Banged Out that Hutch supposedly produced.

Dude ain't getting paid off Internet albums and those weekly bootlegs.  The fans that have given up might be turned on by an album of 14 tracks that's released and distributed by a professional company.  How can you all be making any money? How does even afford to pay for that website? You can't tell me a couple spins overseas is gonna pay for that cause we all know he's being downloaded for free by the few fans he has.  He has a huge uphill climb to regain the respect of any fans that he has been promising an album forever.  Even Ya Boy released an album.  I wonder if he will release an album this century.

Crooked I  8)

Truth be told, i only herd dudes name around the way.  i didnt get on to his music and i regret it but it wasnt til i herd "Girl" with Luniz and even then i was tardy to it because i herd it on a homies mixtape.

i was reading the XXL mag today the one with Foxy Brown on it and they had Crooked I's verse it their so i stood and read his lyrics.....but then a "Follower" aka store clerk/security hovered around me, so i mashed out. but damn i zoned-out by just reading dudes shit.

but as for his DeathRow days im not knowin wut u speak ov, but i like the aggressive flow and all and also luv they way he had to dumb-it-down for radio waves otherwise i prolly wont see or hear dude at a Summer Jam concert. he gave me a whole year ov burning a new CD every week just so the homies could hear him at the spots.
my vote will have to go with Treacherous Flow, respect to the thread.

but as far as him changing up his flow, all i can say is if you look at all these other artist that had to change up their flow. Crooked I is the only one that did it on his own and for himself. by that i mean everyone that went threw and to Aftermath records, they had to change up their flow for the better or for the Good Doctors ears.

Crooked I is the man.

We, as DOC members, are just as much frustrated as the fans who don't really "get involved". All we can do is support everything he's droppin to keep his name out here. Believe me, if we had any power to make him release an album, we would have used it. That's not the case. We're just supplied by Treacherous/Dynasty with material that we do our best to promote in any way we can.

Much respect for this reply. You made some good points. In a way I guess it's a bit unfair to judge wholly between the 2 eras since neither era has given us a full-length studio album to judge from. All we get are bits and pieces here and there with a shitload of freestyles to boot. While I still maintain that I enjoy the Death Row flow more at the moment, I'm also open-minded enough to give his Boss material a fair listen if it ever comes out? LOL!  I may be surprised, who knows, but the nigga gotta quit fucking around and drop that shit.

Much respect to Crooked I though. The nigga is crazy with it, regardless.

^^ Which poll are you talkin about? This one right here? How does it involve the DOC? And if by typin "some djs don't play his music", you meant that retard Clint Dogg, you must be mental. Are you Clint Dogg? lol if thats you, stop thinking the career of Crooked I depends on the no name bitch that you are. Fuckin idiot.  ::)

The DOC are fans. Peter and Scott are just doing this because they love Crooked I music. They don't have nothing to with him not releasing an album and not gettin that much play in the clubs, on the radio or whatever. They're doing their best to spread the good word about Crooked I and they're doing it well. When dude says he's doing it for the fans, they are the people he's talkin about. He shout them out on the last hhhw by the way. We all know who's the one giving Crooked I a bad name out here on the forums and I won't say his name here. Anyway, he aint got that much exposure. btw he's not the one who banned you from the forums (if you're Clint Dogg). The only reason why you got banned is that you were useless, posting stupid comments all the time and trying to start beef with other members.

Shouts out to Peter, Scott and the whole DOC.

Anyone know if Big Hutch is producing anything for Crook's Boss album? If not, then Crook should consider hollering at him for some beats. I think Hutch could lace him with some heat.

Whether you Clint plays Crooked I or even Mark Morrison's music, You will not affect sales whatsoever.
You Clint is not a big name DJ, he can't increase or decrease any artists fanbase.
