Which Album Is Better? Production Wise, Lyrics & Over All Performance
Both Cd's Pioneered G-Funk Music & Made It Famous
Above The Law's Black Mafia Life Was Made & Recorded First But, Dr. Dre's The Chronic Was Released First. Also It Is Said That Dr. Dre Stole Cold 187um's Idea About G-Funk Music. The Reason Why Dr. Dre's Cd Was Released First Is Becuz Ruthless Records At The Time Was Going Thur A Distribution Change Which Resulted With Death Row Records Releasing Dre's Chronic Album First. Since Death Row Had Everything Set Up With Their Distributors.
In My Opinion Above The Law's Black Mafia Life Is 100% Better Then The Chronic. It Has Some Bangin' Ass Beats. Great Samples Of George Clinton & The Parliament Tracks. Nice Smooth Tracks With Very Good Intro & Hooks. Also KMG & Cold 187um Flows Were Fuckkin' Impressive. Also It Has Tracks With 2pac, Eazy-E, & M.C. Ren. Very Great Features.
Over All My Score For Black Mafia Life Is Score 9/10
Things I Like About Dre's Chronic. To Me I Loved The Production. The Synths Were Insane. Beat Wise Its A G-Funk Classic No Dought About That. Just Wasn't Really Feeling Some Of The Lyrics In There. Snoop Dogg Was Raw Dr. Dre Was Ok But He Should Have Just Stuck To Producing. Also In Not A Big Fan Of Too Many Features.
Over All My Score For The Chronic Is 8/10

this shit gets discussed like all of the time.
but ima be real honest, black mafia life was hard, it was dope.
but it was nowhere near being as dope as the chronic.
on the real, above the law weren't the most capable and compelling rappers if you know what i mean.
the chronic just had a better presentation and way better mc's (kurupt, snoop, daz, rbx, lady of rage all in their prime) and better put together songs on it.
the chronic sounded like a big ass fucken event. that shit felt like an event at least to me.
to this day throwing on aint nothin but a g thang is like "ooooohhh shit yeah!"
the only song i still get that feeling from off black mafia life is vsop.

I voted Chronic because that shit was like an event. ATL was dope too thoe, it just didn't have the same appeal as Tha Chronic did to me. An' yeah I've been askin' who is that chick in yo sig?

Both is dope,used a lot of the same samples... but the outcome sounds way different.
Don't really want to compare them,because I'm tired of this issue... :-\

the chronic paved a whole new wave for the whole west coast.

Chronic is the all round better album, and a true favourite of mine, but Black Mafia Life is really close, and one of my favourite west coast hip-hop albums of all time.And I gotta say Hutch was lyrically better on Livin' Like Hustlers

chronic is my choice but on production I gotta go with BLACK MAFIA LIFE because almost every track on the chronic was a recycled 70 sampled beats even if they were revamped nice...
