oh yeah, if you call the West Coast sound that early 90's sound, yeah its dead, it died in the late 90's when Jay-Z made that song with him/mephbleek/ and beanie sigel, and dropped that album, that year East Coast hip hop dominated the West, and I noticed rhymn styles kind of changed a lil bit, then the south took over, and the west coast fell in love with the south, but west coast hip hop isn't dead as long as you open your window and see kids rapping, its alive, its just the old school dudes are hating the younger generation because they are aware of the lack of respect that the young'ns have for their sound, and they know the young'ns are feeling the other sounds more, and trying to make their new sound better than the sounds popular now, plus better than the old days when the beats were really slow, and you could tell that everybody was super high while they rapped through lack of energy in the songs
like i think your a dickhead if you really thought over 10 years later we would still sound like the good ol snoop and dre days, thats just plain ignorant, go to school and get an education, shit changes every 5 years! new styles, new sounds, if not, we'd be listening to disco still.
Old rappers, grow up, be parents and let your kids enjoy the new hip hop, old rapper fans, go buy your old albums you love again, don't critize, just live life happy listening to the same song you heard for the last 15 years

It's true but that ain't necessarily bad thing because it would've been kinda boring if the "west coast sound" would still be the exactly same... things change. And when talking bout beats... I think that Dr. Dres 2001 kinda changed the sound somehow because after that lot of producer have used piano sounds more...
But if there is some kind of new west coast sound... I don't know about that but "State Of Emergency" by Game & Cube is something I'd like to hear more in the future... there are few other artists too who have brought something new & fresh... jay rock def. one of them, we'll see..

West coast sound ain't died it's just evolved over time.
The sound won't be what it was in the 90's and in a way I'm sad about that coz they where some great years but things gotta change to progress. We got new artist with a new sound, terrace martin, Problem, Dubb Union just to name a few and we gots to give them the support we gave the 90's artists stead of banging on about them and comparing.
The way i see it is that if we hadn't be supporting the west coast sound in the 90's from it's start to the party's to the record stores then there is no way we would have had those amazing albums. So lets start talking about the west coast as it is now, not how it was.
Support the artists of now. Support the vibe of now. Support the west.

Rap is wack period,the east,the south and the west is putting out shit thats not classic material.I rather listen to R&B most o fthe time.Alot of rappers on the west is weak,just look at the line up,spider loc,40 golck,g.malone.jay rock,these artist is wack and only appealing to some of the westcoast.the only nigga that got skill is crooked i,sly boogy,and bishop lamount,oh and suga free do his thing but suga free could never get mainstream because he to raw for them.so the west should just except being underground and put out the records indepedent.we a never get back like we had it in the 90's.death row was the golden era for the west,when pac died everything died.

Don't agree with the thread. The West Coast sound isn't dead and buried. There is a difference between the West Coast music movement and wanting to bring back the 90's. You can't just keep going to the well with the same old shit. There is a difference between 70's P-Funk and G-Funk. There is a difference between The Chronic and 2001. It's a matter of inspiration, not uninspired imitation. If you have kids who grew up on 90's music, it will probably be prevelant in their style today. The West Coast doesn't need to start over from scratch but it does need to come up with some new ideas.

I don't agree with the thread either. Yeah it's not the 90's where the West runs every airwave and music video, but the Westcoast is making hits. It's just that the hits mostly are coming from the OG West and not the newer artists. The only newer West artist pumping out huge hits consistently is The Game and most of the other hits are coming from the vets. Once we bring Eastwood and Ya Boy into the picture, we are going to have even more hits. I would say that the West has a lot of artists that are weak and bring the coast down with negative uncreative singles that don't resemble the mainstream game or a club track that can actually draw some attention. These artists that drop singles like "Grow Up" and diss the artists that make the coast shine deserve to be ignored and dusted off. They are no good for anything except beef and negativity. The West is learning how to have fun again if you look at the singles below, which people often forget, is what happened in the 90's. The West was dropping fun records like "Gin and Juice," "You Can Do It," "U Know How We Do It," "Cocktales," "Let Me Ride," "Bitch Please," "Ain't No Bitches," "Been A Long Time," "I Got 5 On It," "X", "What's My Name," "California Love," "The Next Episode," "Xxplosive," "Who Ride Wit Us," "We Can Freak It," "How Do You Want It," etc. Another great thing is that more of the West is starting to adapt to the current mainstream sound as you can see by the hits below and starting to make the fun club type records.
