The decades-long battle between DC Comics and Marvel Comics continued this week as Robert Downey Jr. (aka Iron Man) slammed box-office hit Batman.

"Didn't get it, still can't tell you what happened in the movie, what happened to the character and in the end they need him to be a bad guy. I'm like, 'I get it. This is so high brow and so f***ing smart, I clearly need a college education to understand this movie.' You know what? F*** DC Comics. That's all I have to say and that's where I'm really coming from."

Marvel fans have always argued that the publisher's characters – Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk and Spider Man among them, are more flawed, complex and nuanced than DC archetypes Batman, Superman and Wonderwoman. However, now it seems that Downey Jr. is complaining Batman is too complex. 

His criticisms should be taken with a healthy dose of salt. Case in point: despite a superhero-worthy performance in this summer's blockbuster, Iron Man, rival hit Batman became the second-highest grossing U.S. movie of all time, while Iron Man sits in twenty-first place.

The real winner in the battle for our hearts and wallets? In the eleven years since its release, not a single movie has managed to top the good ship Titanic's profits, proving once again that the biggest superhero of all time is love, sweet sweet love.

^^Yup I agree, both were pretty good movies, but nowhere near The Dark Knight

Downey is cool, but trippin'.I wouldn't be surprised if this frustration is just some kind of a publicity stunt

He's probably being sarcastic.  I think if we were to watch a video of this response, it would be pretty clear that it was sarcasm...he's known to use it a lot.
