MINNEAPOLIS (AP)—Magic Johnson says he’s outraged that a pair of Minneapolis talk radio hosts accused him of faking AIDS.
KTLK’s Chris Baker and Langdon Perry made the remarks during Baker’s conservative talk show on Wednesday.
The context for the remarks wasn’t clear. According to a partial transcript and audio clip posted on a media watchdog site, mediamatters.org, the remarks came after a caller complained about demands on workers. Perry responded by asking about treatable diseases that a person can live with for a long time “if you just get some basic drugs.”
Baker responded, “Like Magic Johnson?”
Perry replied, “Like Magic with his faked AIDS. Magic faked AIDS.”
Baker said, “You think Magic faked AIDS for sympathy?”
Perry replied, “I’m convinced that Magic faked AIDS.”
“Me too,” Baker said.
Johnson issued a statement Thursday saying he was “outraged that Chris Baker and Langdon Perry would minimize such a serious and deadly issue.”
“Millions are dying from HIV/AIDS, and the fact that they would make jokes about my status is unbelievable,” Johnson said. “Chris, Langdon and KTLK should use their power in a more positive light by encouraging people to get tested for this disease instead of making up such ridiculous lies.”
Johnson was diagnosed with HIV in 1991 and retired from the NBA at 32.
A KTLK program director didn’t immediately return a call seeking comment Friday.
wow. :-X

Not that shocking. People have joked about that for years, the fact that its on radio makes it "shocking". Im not gonna say he doesnt have AIDS, but he for damn sure has some cure/treatment that the rest of the public doesnt.

I don't see what's so shocking about it. Plenty of people talk about him not having aids or HIV because he's had it for so long and has shown no effects from it like others do. Like you said, maybe he's rich enough to afford the treatment that the regular public can't.

If you take care of it, you can live a normal life...it attacks your immune system, so if you do whatever it takes to keep your immune system functioning properly, it's like you dont even have it. Magic is a smart guy and he's been taking care of his body forever. It's not really THAT shocking that he's doing just fine...the shit he takes is available to everyone.
-
wow at this, that is awful
dude has $$ and takes care of his body, that's why he's ok
-
Fire his ass.

I remember when I was in high school (jesus, 10 years ago) and we watched a report on this guy who had AIDS. He said he works out like a motherfucker and said he'll beat it. This year I was watching Bigger, Stronger, Faster: The Side Effects of Being American, and they interviewed the same guy. He said he buys steroids for working out and to fight AIDS.
So that's the secret, steroids.

And..? What's the problem? Is it his fault that he is rich and famous instead common people doesn't have millions and nobody gives a fuck about them like they did about Magic? Do you think if LeBron James, or Tom Cruise, or George Bush gets AIDS they won't get superspecial and multimilionaire treatment too?
That said, nobody should joke about AIDS. People die, everyday. They should have talked about condoms or about making tests, instead that acting like two complete idiots.

Magic's a good guy. He realizes a stupid, baseless speculation about a public figure isn't a reason for someone to lose their livelihood.
-
what do you call magic johnson in a wheel chair?
-

Good question. I mean no matter who you are, if you say you have AIDS, people won't have contacts with you for the rest of your life. And females won't fuck with you no more. So why faking AIDS? He didn't even took money from it, and he was already rich enought. I might understand if a poor guy fakes something to get money, but how serious is to think a superstar multi-millionaire like Magic can fake AIDS? Don't take it personal, but sometimes you Americans can be really idiot with all your theories...
