As ya'll know, EliteXC went out of business after that (fixed?) Kimbo fight vs. Petruzelli ended in a major disappointment. Anyone see him signing with another MMA company? Kimbo is a beginner in MMA, and despite what the critics say, I still believe he has a bright future in the sport. What do ya'll see happening with Kimbo now that EliteXC is finished? I dunno if UFC is likely, but there's definitely a spot for him in WEC. Anyone else still interested in how things turn out for Kimbo and his MMA career?...PeACe

I bet Dana White will offer him a trial fight into the UFC for ratings, he will get his ass kicked then he will be done, son. Like dinner.

Hmmm...that'd be interesting. If he wins the trial fight, will he automatically get a contract? Kimbo definitely has the tools to become an elite fighter in the UFC, so shit will be interesting to see how he handles shit from here on out.
-
Kimbo needs to start enduring more punches. It doesn't look good when he drops in the first 30 seconds. And he really needs to learn some sort of ground game or he'll be gone with the quickness.
-
Dana White actually spoke on this. According to him, the closest Kimbo Slice would be to signing a contract with UFC is if he were to win The Ultimate Fighter. Outside of that, no shot whatsoever.
I could see him going to Japan though.
-
he is going back to the hood to fight in the hood

highly doubt it...

yeah i was jk
i think he should take up boxing and resurrect the heavyweight division but that's just my suggestion

That's actually not a bad idea...Kimbo's OG style is more of a boxer than an MMA fighter anyways.
-
WWE was throwing his name around on whether or not to sign him but Vince hasn't said anyrhing officially.

with the glass jaw he has? he wouldnt last 1 round against a janitor

How does Kimbo have a glass jaw?

i say let him fight maybr 15 bums whoop all there ass then put him against legit boxers such as James Toney, Sam Peter, Evander Holyfield and Calvin Brock. If he could get past any of those he can be a prospect

How does Kimbo have a glass jaw?
did you see his last fight? the guy he was fighting gave him a love tap on the chin and kimbo went down

didn't really look like Kimbo got knocked out.. i thought he was off balance and was caught off guard.

Dana white said "Kimbo slice fuckin sucks"....so no...He aint going there...and the UFC owns WEC....so he wont be going there either

dude would get to tired quick...he cant last 12 3 min rounds....I mean..he barely survied that one fight vs the dude with the fucked up ear

Dana White is correct. I can't believe you still think he can become an 'elite' level fighter in the UFC. I thought you may of come to your senses after seing what Seth did to him. Kimbo needs to either face lower level strikers or for his benefit go into the WWE and make his 'bread'.

I dunno...the fight vs. James Thompson was way different than the fight vs. Seth Petruzelli, which leads me to believe that something went wrong with the Petruzelli fight. No way is that typical Kimbo. Either way, Kimbo is a rookie in MMA...regardless of what may have happened, he STILL has the tools to become an elite fighter, and it may take some more training for him to compete with top UFC competition, but the tools are there...PeACe

Tools? He has half decent hands and that's all. He has no kicks, no ground game, and apparently he doesn't take a great shot either, let alone going into the conditioning aspect of the sport. Time is against Kimbo, and unless he can get an immediate rematch and tool Seth then he is finished in MMA.
I'm not trying to hate on Kimbo at all, it's the way I see it.

Mark Henry vs Kimbo Slice in a Cage Match. Make it happen Vince
-
Stay out of BOXING! that's 4 sure.. he has a better shot at winning the UFC "lightweight" champioship. ;)
(ZERo! Chance in so many ways)

Damn, theyre outta business already? I thought they were doing good.

I can't say I was a big fan of EliteXC, but this weekend was going to host a potential fight of the year - Diaz vs Alvarez. I am bummed this is not happening.
-
kimbos a thug not a trained fighter. no doubt hes a dangerous man but he cant handle himself in the ring with some legit fighters. i think hell probably go back to doing bodygaurd ork for pornstars ;D
-
I think Kimbo gets way too much undeserved hate...if ya'll saw any of his first 4 fights, you'd know he was able to last on the ground, as well as take shots. and all that was with minimal training...people gave up on Kimbo way too quick. he deserves another shot.

i saw all of his fights. kimbo isnt a young guy, to really have a chance competing at that level requires getting on a serious training program when youre young. i mean obviously he can improve his ground techniques and work on not giving away all of his punches, but theres a whole new generation of guys coming up who are naturally talented and have the training to go with it. i have been watching UFC since the very beginning (when you had sumo guys fighting kickboxers and shit)and i have seen the league change dramatically. a guy like kimbo would have been a big hit when it was more of a legal street fight type of event, but the way UFC has evolved ould eat him alive
-
you might be right...but i still think people underestimate Kimbo's abilities. I just wish he woulda fought Shamrock, cuz I'm positive he woulda' won and things woulda turned out a lot different for EliteXC and MMA as a whole.
-
yeah after kimbo got put down in like 30 seconds alot of people switched up on liking him, but thats the way it goes with fighters. it seems to me like most of the people talking shit about kimbo were the same ones hyping him up when he was laying out all those guys. shamrock would have been a good fight... theyre both older guys who would have both been down to brawl it out i think

Kimbo was a favourite going into that fight and for a reason. He was fighting a name in Shamrock. Ken hasn't been competitive for many, many years now, and it was just a way of EliteXC building up Kimbo even further by suggesting he knocked out a legend. In fact, an unknown UK fighter knocked Ken out just months earlier.
I have only ever seen Kimbo go to ground once, and that was against James Thompson and he layed there like a wet salmon and most was suprised the fight didn't get stopped because he showed no signs of actually defending himself for some time. This doesn't consist of 'having a ground game'.
-
^so he didn't have any defense and took a gang of shots, yet he still won the fight...wouldn't this go against the theory of him having a glass jaw? why does it always have to be lose-lose with Kimbo? he has his strengths and he has his weaknesses, like any fighter. he might not be fully trained, but he has the natural ability. Kimbo is the type of fighter who woulda been a GOAT had he grown up around an MMA enviroment.

He was fighting James Thompson who notoriously has a glass jaw. The idea was to bring him in so Kimbo could knock him the fvck out, but Kimbo didn't have the power to do so.
Let's look at Kimbo's opponents at the time he fought them:
1)Bo Cantrell (10-10)
Bo came into this fight losing four fights in a row. Bo doesn't have one win over a legit fighter on his resume.
2)David 'Tank' Abbott (9-13)
Tank lives off his name when he was a brawler ten years ago. Tanks most noticable win was over Cabbage and that was his last win in 2005. Tank does carry power, but he is very much a one dimensional slugger. He came into this fight with 1 win his last 8 bouts.
3)James Thompson (14-8)
James was also brought in due to his inability to take a strong shot. The stage was made for Kimbo to knock this guy out in a major way on national television. Thompson does have power himself with a TKO victory over legend Don Frye in a hard fought fight.
Thomspon came into this fight following two, first found knock outs.
Overal records of the time they came in to the fight with Kimbo - (33-31).
Now, for me, Thompson was Kimbo's first legit fight as a MMA fighter. I didn't expect him to come through but he did so props to him on that. In my eyes Kimbo has fougth two C-Level HW's, and he has gone 1-1. He is not a total failure, but there is no way he is doing anything major in this sport.
Let him continue to fight strikers worse than him and enjoy it for what it is.
Just because you look like a scary dude, it doesn't mean you are a scary dude. Look at Nate Diaz, he looks like a 15 year old child, yet he is one bad motherfucker who is currently 4-0 in the UFC since he won TUF, over some legit competition.
I hope this lays this beaten down horse to rest.
-
in all honestly Kimbo went into the wrong sport
if he would of took up boxing he would have been 15-0 right now and knocked out alot more bums and due to the lack of contenders and prospects he would of been fighting for a championship by now.
Not saying that he can beat either of the Klitchsko brothers because he cant but he could of atleast beatin another Russian.
He could have always signed to Don King who would of gave him a great match up against Hasim Rahman, James Toney, Sam Peter or Tony Thompson.
MMA wasent for him and it was proven when he got knocked out.
I guess the next step is wrestling
-
i just think he was hyped up way too much...he's just an ol school brawler, swingin for the fences and knockin bitches out. thats what he is and shouldnt be expected to be technical. IMO he either got gassed up by yes men yappin in his ear and took dude lightly and got lit up. Or he was approached to throw the fight and figured he would take the money and run. he should just milk his 15 mins. of fame and call it a career.
