CHICAGO - Suns center Shaquille O'Neal was held out of Friday's game at Chicago for some staff-prescribed rest.
The Suns chose to hold O'Neal out because they play again Saturday at Milwaukee, where they want him to face Andrew Bogut.
-
Yeah they're not going to play him in back-to-back games. Sad cuz he's still going to find a way to miss about 30 games on his own anyway.
-
Can I do the same at work ? Just tell me my manager " I won't work back to back days , just the most important one" or " I get injured on company time, I will heal on company time" :D
Shaq was a great player , but got one of the worst work ethic of all time ...

Shaq>>>>>kobe

Shaq>>>>>kobe
Hey there's a brilliant idea. Lets compare a center to a shooting guard!

shaq is an all time great
dunno why people here hate him

Because if he had a better work ethic and wasn't as jealous as a 14 year old girl he could realistically be the GOAT. Better than Wilt, better than Russell, better than Kareem.

word, why do die-heart Laker fans on a westcoast board hate on Shaq so much? :D
-
^ because they have a love connection with Kobe
I'm a Laker fan, but I'm a smart Laker fan, always knew both Shaq and Kobe equally fucked up by acting like babies
as far as the work ethic talk, they do have a point, but whatever

false...Shaq demanded a ludicrous 30 mill contract extension when he was clearly decling. also caused an uproar when management and coaching staff wanted Kobe in the primary role. The fact that they both fucked shit up is a common misconception.
-
good thing they gave the big man a day off, he had 29, 11 and 6 last night!!

you're right, but Kobe was equally to blame, "I'm leaving if he's staying".... that's baby tantrum style

he didn't go to chick hears funeral (to busy celebrating his 3 championship)
didn't get his toe surgery in the off-season (to busy celebrating his 3 championship)
HE TOLD the media "i got hurt during company time I'll get my surgery during company time"
cost us a 4th championship b/c he was hurt and out of shape that season..
he use to say " if the dog doesn't get fed he won't guard the yard...( that shit use to piss me off >:()
he said on the BDSSP " i have to be ready for this season (03-04) b/c my teammates couldn't hold it down for me last season (it was his fault we didn't win a 4th straight championship)
1st pre-season game in 03-04, turns to Dr.buss and yells "you gonna pay me now muthafucka"
demands a ridiculous 3 year-30mill$ contract extension.....Dr.buss says no...shaq starts acting like a bitch and we all know what happend when he got traded
so there, i just gave you a bunch of reasons why i "hate" shaq with out using kobe.....and i could use kobe to give you more reasons why i "hate" shaq, but I'm not going to :D

lol he never said that....it was all shaqs fault for the break up...trust me

Shaq took a nother day off & the Thunder are Destroying the Suns...thunder up by 13 at the half ....Great Game  ;D
-
wow you'd think the suns would be able to hold off the fuckin' thunder without shaq....wow. can't say i'm worried about phoenix in the playoffs.
-
Suns ended up winning without Shaq.
-
Once again, it was the COACHES decision to rest him. Im sure MR. Colangelo and Mr. Porter sat down and both agreed on giving the legend some rest through-out the season. Its doesnt seem like a bad idea either, since Shaq is putting up pretty solid numbers this year. So no need to act like Shaq just aint showing up cuz he wants the day off. Im sure Shaq works harder than you anyways, while you sit around on DubCC and create threads trying to diss him.

its only one game tho, phoenix got the win, nobody will remember the scoreline in 2 months time. Its games like this that make a team a good team.
-
I think it's a really smart decision, actually. He's old and big, he needs some rest, so he can bring his A-game when necessary. So you rest him against horrible teams. I'd do the same.
-
I think it's a great move to rest him. Shaq is having a very good year and it's a long ass season. Plus it gives Lopez and other bench guys a lot of PT and they can tweak their rotations. D'Antoni never went to his bench and it was frustrating as fuck.
-
can't wait til Shaq breaks down and the dudes who know this guy well get to say "I told you so"

and the suns lost tonight ;D
-
Yeah, they are resting him when him playing doesn't alter the outcome.
Like, against teams like Thunder, who are so horrible that Phoenix takes care of them even without the great Shaquille O'Neal.
Or, also, in games that Phoenix will lose regardless. Like against a good team like NO, when Nash can't play.
I approve that system.

I don't see how conceding defeat to any team you deem elite is good a good system. What message are you sending your players? "Always give 100%, unless it's a really good team that we can't win anyways".
-
^If Nash was in, I'm sure they would have went for the win. But beating NO without Nash is pretty unrealistic. I'm cynical, so I like that system. Of course, sending that message to your players might not be the best decision, I think they didn't tell it like this, but be confident it is exactly what Porter or whoever made the call to rest Shaq was thinking.

Shaq's stats the game after his "rest game": 1-6 FG, 4 points, 5 rebounds.
Rest strategy=Failure

still LMFAO@anyone who was tryna claim he's on Bynum's level at this stage of his career. :-X

-
Imo it's not a huge deal for him to take a day off, I agree that Shaq has never had a great work ethic but he's in the last part of his career. When MJ was on the wizards he fucked himself over big time trying to play heavy minutes every night on fucked up knees...granted the situation isn't the same but dude's just old.

Judging by the Suns' record, I can't say this was the best of strategies.
