Title: With the way the Lakers are playing, I'm ready to say Kobe>MJ.
Post by: Doggystylin on November 13, 2008, 11:24:39 PM
There's a good chance the Lakers are winning the next 5 championships. I met Laker forward Trevor Ariza's cousin on the bus and he really put me up on the game. Lakers are the greatest team to ever play. 82-0 is a possibility, mon!

You're jumping the gun. 82-0 Let's be serious. 5 champions? They had there opportunity to do that from 1999-2004 and missed it. And as far has Kobe>MJ, I don't see how 7 games into this season shows that. Now that Kobe has some talent surrounding him that is somewhat comparable to Jordan's Bulls, we can see just how far Kobe can go. So to sum it all up, wait till the end of the season.

You tell me to be patient, but I might tell you the same. Be patient and wait for the Los Angeles Lakers to revive the NBA and the game of basketball as we know it. It goes along with Obama's victory, the American economy restorance, and the rise of Hip-Hop.

Phil Jackson has always been on top of things. In the 90s with Jordan and the Bulls, with the threepeat era, Shaq and Kobe's spectalur ruling class. The NBA is coming back with Kobe and Phil Jackson. Just wait and see, mon.

Way more help than Jordan had with his teams. Jordan > Kobe still.

I dunno about that one, son...the threepeat Bulls teams were compiled to perfection, as the current Laker team is. Jordan had Pippen initiating and locking muthafuckaz down on the perimeter, while Rodman was grabbing every rebound in sight. They played a TEAM game and Phil ran it to perfection, which is what he's doing now... you can't really claim Kobe has "way more" help...not by a long shot...PeACe

WTF are you talking about? If the Laker role players stepped up and played their part the way the role players of the 3peat Bulls did, then the Lakers woulda' won the ring last season...basketball is not a game of 1-on-1, it's a TEAM effort. Haven't you learned this by now? Try to make sense when you speak.

What the fuck are you talking about? Pierce dominated Radmanovic. Him and Kobe didn't spend much time on each other, which was a disappointment cuz they're my 2 favorite players. Stop hanging out with Hack Wilson dude.

^^^^Well I still think MJ is better than Kobe no doubt but MJ never faced a great defensive team like Boston in the Finals ... back in the day the rules did not allow to play some "crowded zone type of D" therefore MJ has always been able to play one on one B-Ball ... each time Kobe wanted to drive or began his offensive moves , there was 2-3 Cetics around him .... Kobe did not play well besides Game 3 but Boston D was amazing last season  top 5 in these latest 20 years without a doubt ..

LMAO, Jordan never got molested in the finals like Kobe.  How quickly people forget recent history.  Jordan's first 3 rings were with a FAR less talented supporting staff than anything Kobe ever won a ship with.

This debate is so retarded...Jordan is so much more highly decorated than Kobe at this point.  MAYBE Kobe will win 4 more ships, rack up a bunch of MVP's, etc.  Then you could have a legit debate.

the Bulls just won 55 Games after Jordan 1st retirement and lost in 7 Games to the Knicks in the Semi Finals ... Pippen was much better than any current Lakers player not named Kobe ... last time I checked , Jordan with little help , he was swept by the Pistons .. y'all say that Lakers fans say stupid shit , yes some definetely are but this is not a reason to do the same ... yes Jordan has accomplished way more things than Kobe , but y'all act like Kobe shocked against Suns D ....  Boston made any perimeter superstar looks like shit all season long .... Lebron shot 35 percent in that Cavs- Cs series.... Kobe averages 30 a game on 50 % FG against the Spurs who were a very good D team , Boston D was just flat out amazing
Title: Re: With the way the Lakers are playing, I'm ready to say Kobe>MJ.

But at least LBJ showed up in the elimination game, instead of allowing his team to get beat by 30 or whatever.  Kobe, like that one game 7 against the SUns, merely gave up...............which is why HE IS NOT JORDAN.  Is he as talented as Jordan?  DEFINITELY----------but fact is, Jordan never went out in finals game like that.

Kobe still has ALOT to do to get on Jordan's level as far as acoomplishments go, and isn't that what sports is all about?  Not potential or ability, but RESULTS.  6 finals MVP's, 6 championships as leader means Jordan is still WAY ahead.

The comparisons do hold weight, but its still not that close..........

Lebron did have a way  better game indeed .... I just take him as an example to show how Boston D was great ... my whole point is when people here will understand than praisin one player or another doesn't take anything from the others ... all these this one is better than this one is getting ridiculous , especially when nobody is arguing and is turning against a Lakers fans against others BS .... Imo Jordan is the greatest , it doesn't mean Kobe is the worst

Right, because Laker homers are definitely objective observers capable of rational analysis. When Kobe leads a team to 6 rings, then make the comparison.

NI<K, don't use the second best player argument, because it was you who was guaranteeing a win in the finals, right?

And accomplishments DO matter, numbers do matter.........

look at things objectively, and you can see its Jordan way ahead of Kobe for now.  Kobe at his very best is close to Jordan, but it will be damn near impossible for Kobe to reach Jordan's level for his career.  And really, when players are done, we look at them at how they played over their career......not for the so-called "prime" seasons.  Of course, take Jordan's four best seasons and put them against Kobe's, and its still not close......

Of course, Kobe's prime is still TBA...............last year's finals loss was not a great way to start his case for greatest ever.  Of course, I don't think even Kobe is as concerned about his legace as his fans are........

You're right...Kobe's not concerned because he already knows he's better than Jordan. He knows there's nothing he can't do on the basketball court, so he aint trippin. Sure, I said the Lakers would beat Boston based on how poorly Boston played and how great the Lakers looked...that doesn't take away from us playing without our starting center and 2nd most important guy on the squad, does it? Lets make sense of shit...Jordan has lost big games, even in his prime. While it may not have looked as bad as last year in the Finals, Jordan ALWAYS had his partner, Scottie Pippen, by his side. If accomplishments were what was used to determin GOAT, then Bill Russell is the GOAT...you get my drift? Kobe's career is not even close to being finished...at this age, Kobe has collected more rings than Jordan. We'll see what's up when Kobe's career comes to an end...PeACe

you really buy into that best leader and best influence crap? why? lobe is just as much a leader to his teammates and just as influential to their game...jordan was a great leader, but lets not forget, dude was punching out teammates in practice. nothing i've seen tells me mj was the "best leader". that title goes to magic johnson, regardless.

^^^^^^^^^ Exactly man....numbers dont mean everything, but they mean a lot more than one obsessed fan's OPINION.

Its all about results, and Jordan has the best ever combination of individual and team accomplishments.  When Kobe's career is done, we will talk.  I suspect Kobe will have 5 titles, 2 finals mvps, and be the all-time leading scorer(although we all know LBJ will take that one from him).........but Kobe will NEVER challenge how good Jordan was all around, steals, assists, blocks, shooting percentage, pointes per game, finals mvp's, etc etc.  BUt it will be CLOSE in comparing them, just like it will be close in comparing Lebron and Shaq.

You know what would be fucking insane?  If Lebron had a monster like Shaq to play with when he entered the league----------sure, LBJ wouldn't hav scored close to as much, but can you imagine his assist game.  All LEbron needs is a true accomplice and its over OVER

My first post in this thread was not supposed to rile anyone up, but don't get me wrong, if Kobe stays healthy, he will match and or surpass Jordan in a fair no. of the categories, no doubt. Statistically, he is definately on pace to.

But the retardness in this thread is absurd, people who don't support Kobe are seen as "lynching red necks" LOL aren't those lynching rednecks supporting Jordan? LOL not Larry Bird, dumbfuck.

Jordan used to give it all during pratice. Everybody knows that. It was an hell for teammates who didn't respect that and who didn't give it all too. Jordan was competitive, as much as Kobe. But he wanted pratice to be even better than games. That's why sometimes he went crazy and he punched out teammates. It was not him acting like a moron and dissing his own teammates or punching them out for the simple reason he knew he was the best player in the team and that he had the "keys" of the team. No. It was just Jordan being aggressive like usual ON THE COURT (even in pratice). And that "fire" was contagious to other people. Shit, even Tony Kukoc started to play better with Jordan dissing him and motivating him. Even Rodman gave it all on the floor, instead of being mr. troublesome like usual. That's leadership. It's willing to win. Obviously he was lucky to have a great supporting cast. Harper was great. Pippen was amazing. Phil Jackson was the best coach in the League. Etc.. but they all respected his leadership, including Pippen, who was probably the 2nd best player in the NBA (like Kobe was with Shaq). Kobe is starting to be a good leader too, expecially since the Lakers have a very young roster, and Kobe is the veteran of the team. He's the player with more NBA seasons behind him in Lakers roster, so he understood that, and he's acting like a mature man.

But other than that, Jordan was a better defender, a true winner, and his 6-0 record speaks for himself. Kobe still has a lot of things to do to be better than him, honestly. It's still possible, don't get me wrong. He's still 30. We will see. But right now, if i have to chose one, i chose Jordan.

you're telling me all this shit as if i don't know it...LOL. if Jordan was the slightly better defender, you can definitely say Kobe's the better shooter and has a wider offensive arsenal than Jordan did. That more than balances it out, and Kobe's always All-NBA Defense without a fucking Scottie Pippen to lock down players on the perimeter, so fuck that. Don't "think" too hard NIK.........I mean, how you can say Kobe with the Bulls would've won 8 chips is straight up ridiculous.  How the fuck do we really know that?  Dude has ZERO MVP'S in the finals, so you can't really justplug him in Jordan's spot and say they would've been even better.  Kobe, believe it or not, has yet to prove himself in the finals as the number one option

I really don't think Jordan woulda led last years Lakers to the Finals without Bynum and Ariza...PeACe

If you know it why you write Jordan punched out teammates like it was a negative thing? Anyway Jordan (still) > Kobe, that's my opinion.

That's unfair...I think if you put Kobe in Jordan's shoes, Bulls woulda won 8 straight (considering Kobe woulda never taken years off for baseball). Don't you think? Jordan punching teammates out WAS negative. LOL. Sure, his intensity was great for the team, but sometimes he was TOO intense. Jordan wasn't flawless like the common image of him will have you believe. I dunno, I think you feed a little too much into what the general perception has you believe...PeACe

How is that ridiculous? You think Michael Jordan single handedly made those Bulls? Kobe has more skill AND drive than Jordan did. He woulda been THRILLED to keep winning titles, unlike Jordan, who quit after his first threepeat. Just because Kobe was placed in a situation where he had to play with a demanding ball-dominant big, doesn't mean he deserves less credit. Kobe has proved himself these past couple years by taking sub-par squads deeper than anyone imagined possible...If he were placed in Jordan's shoes, best believe he'd have his share of Finals MVP's by now...PeACe

MJ is still > Kobe, imho. Best defender, best leader, best influence on his teammates. There's no need to make kilometric posts.

you really buy into that best leader and best influence crap? why? lobe is just as much a leader to his teammates and just as influential to their game...jordan was a great leader, but lets not forget, dude was punching out teammates in practice. nothing i've seen tells me mj was the "best leader". that title goes to magic johnson, regardless.
