Title: How Did The West Get So Weak This Year? (NBA)
Post by: Turf Hitta on December 07, 2008, 04:45:41 PM
How did the West go from the monster it was last year to what it is now? The top of the West still looks pretty strong but the West has 6 teams with a winning % of .250 or less while the East only has one. Did the East actually get better or is this simply a result of small sample size and strength of schedule?

1. Gasol trade killed Memphis
2. Brand's backstabbing killed the Clippers
3. Davis going for the money killed Golden State
4. Artest trade killed the Kings
5. Garnett trade killed the Wolves
6. Well the Sonics have been horrible and Durant is still raw

I think there is just so many equally matched teams in the west and so far they have been playing themselves. Its still fairly early in the season, things will pan out.

Yeah, and they face more teams who are capable of winning an NBA game in the East. I mean, those 6 bottom western teams cannot win games against better teams, unless something drastic happens. However Indiana, the second-worst team in the East record-wise, beat the 2 number 1 seeds of the NBA.
The Top 9 of the West shits on the Top 9 of the East, though.
Boston and Cleveland are both more solid defensively than any team in the West.

Lakers are still the shit though, and suns could do some serious damage in a playoff matchup. And you can never count out the spurs they always come back from the dead.

Some guys got older, some guys just started to fall off. And to be dead serious, the Lakers getting Gasol shook things up cuz teams ended up trading away key guys (Shawn Marion, Devin Harris) to keep up with us.

As much as I would like to, I can't agree with you on that (yet).Portland is not in LA or Boston's league yet. So far those are the only teams we have suffered convincing losses to. I would say that Portland could be better than Cleveland though. In Hollinger's power rankings, Portland has the most difficult strength of schedule out of the top 11 teams so far. By the end of the months we will have played over 40% of our road games already. considering the two teams records so far I'd say Portland is at least on par with Cleveland if not slightly better.

Did you watch baseball when the Lakers sucked ass?

The Mavs actually won 9 out of their last 10 games.

thats why there equal in my mind & i honestly have no bias towards either side.

Christmas will decide for me; as long as both teams are 100% (knock on wood).

Lakers never sucked ass, and when we did, we always had a bright future ahead of us and/or the best player in the league to rely on. 8)

As for the Mavs, you traded away your future for a dying point guard and your franchise player is more suited to be a 2nd option... :-\. You might as well start following the Clippers....Kaman is "German" too, you know. :D

watchin both boston n la this year....LA looks better to me so far this year, they look more determined to win a championship then boston does as of now...it culd change tho..both teams are both best in the nba tho ima jus giv the lakers the nod as of now because odom comin off the bench is real strong for them n trevor ariza is awsome for them on the bench...n there strters are good as we all know...bostons bench is not as strong as it was las year because of posey leavin but powe is gun be a great player if hes not already

Oh I see what you meant...I was saying something slightly different. I was saying Portland is not up there with Boston or LA yet. The top two teams from either conference are pretty much a wash though because whatever advantage the West has at the top isn't really all that significant at this point.

they can be equally as awsome on the court.

i agree LA looks better & more determined, but the 'Ship could still be settleing in Boston's head. i mean even if they look determined or not, there still 20-2 & on a 12 game winning streak! :o

give them til the break to really look determined & i think its definatly a rematch in the finals this year, with Bynum & all (so no excuses :D).

i mean definatly a rematch unless the Sixers take the Celtics out in the playoffs! ;) 8) ;D
