An RSS feed is something you can subscribe to that shows you the latest news/media on dubcnn when its updated
-
I remember they were available for a short time a while back... it's good that they're coming back.

i never really got RSS Feeds
It took me a while to grasp the concept too... but once I did it has saved me a bunch of time... it is really useful/efficient.
Basically, you have the news come to you.
Instead of you surfing to all the different websites you visit regularly, you set up an RSS reader (like Google Reader (http://www.google.com/reader) and many others) and subscribe to the website RSS feed.
From then on, all you gotta do is open up your RSS reader and all the updated articles from all those website RSS feeds you subscribe to pop up. Then you can quickly skim through and read those stories/articles/posts you are most interested in. You can either read it in the reader or you can click on the link and it will take you right to the article/story/post on the website.
I use a Mac and use NetNewsWire (http://www.newsgator.com/INDIVIDUALS/NETNEWSWIRE/) as my RSS reader.
-
On the browser Opera they just pop up in the corner like an Instant Message when a new article appears, you can use FireFox and IE to subscribe too if you don't want the other software.

good

I'm on Vista, so mainly I just use the RSS sidebar "widget", it seems to be the most convenient.

Ditto, I have them for BBC headlines on my PC and there was too much uninteresting stuff. Didn't we have them here before? I added a feed but I never read them, preferred to click on the forums.

Looking forward to them, I started using RSS feeds late last year never taking advantage of them and they help a lot now that I've finally given them a chance.

Any news on the RSS front?
Looks like the link to this thread has disappeared from the main forum pages, so I hope that doesn't mean its not happening...

RSS
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rss_feeds
RSS is a family of Web feed formats used to publish frequently updated works—such as blog entries, news headlines, audio, and video—in a standardized format.[2] An RSS document (which is called a "feed", "web feed",[3] or "channel") includes full or summarized text, plus metadata such as publishing dates and authorship. Web feeds benefit publishers by letting them syndicate content automatically. They benefit readers who want to subscribe to timely updates from favored websites or to aggregate feeds from many sites into one place. RSS feeds can be read using software called an "RSS reader", "feed reader", or "aggregator", which can be web-based or desktop-based. A standardized XML file format allows the information to be published once and viewed by many different programs. The user subscribes to a feed by entering the feed's URI (often referred to informally as a "URL", although technically, those two terms are not exactly synonymous) into the reader or by clicking an RSS icon in a browser that initiates the subscription process. The RSS reader checks the user's subscribed feeds regularly for new work, downloads any updates that it finds, and provides a user interface to monitor and read the feeds.

Love that feature ;)

Wait until detox came out! LOL
actually can we get this within this yr?
-
I'm wondering what happened to this too...
It's actually not that hard, you could have a little .php script run real quick every time a news article is posted and it will just write a new .rss file.
I'm not sure what the dubcnn back end / administration looks like, maybe it's not set up to easily incorporate this feature?
-
I gave you guys the benefit of the doubt before on this one when I asked why you still don't have RSS but at this point, come on guys. ;)
-
its part of the complete new dubcnn which is being worked on at the moment. the reason we didnt drop it as planned was because the new system we used couldnt support it with the huge archive we have. unless someone has the time to work on a Coranto Plugin to change that then you're gonna have to wait until the Custom CMS is finished and the new site drops.
Trust me we dont like it any more than you, RSS is a serious limitation but equally im not gonna spend time or money on the old system when the new one now has priority.
