Title: NBA Mid Season Awards/Predictions!
Post by: tempo2 on January 14, 2009, 01:29:15 PM
OK fellas we are fat approaching the halfway mark of the season and its time to put our ass on the line and make our predictions of who is/isnt making the playoffs and see were we at with the awards at the midway point weve all been taking a load of smack for the first half of the season and it will be interesting to see what we predicted no and what actually happens at the end of the season. obviousley trades and injuries and unforseen circumstances play a major role but hindsight is a beuitful thing.

Ok then il set the ball rolling:

PLAYOFFS
--------------

EAST
1) Cleveland
2) Boston
3) Orlando
4) Detroit
5) Atlanta
6) Philadelphia
7) Toronto
8) Miami

WEST
1) LA Lakers
2) New Orleans
3) Denver
4) San Antonio
5) Phoenix
6) Utah
7) Dallas
8) Houston

EAST FINALS: Cleveland V Orlando WINNER: Cleveland
WEST FINALS: LA Lakers V San Antonio WINNER: LA Lakers
CHAMPIONSHP: LA Lakers

MVP: Lebron James....If the criteria for an MVP is for the individual numbers and team success then i think one would struggle to argue with this selection. lebron is doing it all this year and finally has the squad to gain the votes of the media with the 50+ win team which seems to be the status quo for MVP's now.
ROOKIE: OJ Mayo.....I think alot of people knew he'd be a good scorer in this league but his been far better then i expected especially with his FG%. granted this could tail off in the second half of the season due to the rookie wall but the guy has came in and made an immediate impact, one cant argue with that.
6TH MAN......Jason Terry, some nights the guy looks like a shoe in for the all star game. The guy i just a dynamite scorer.

7. Philadelphia
8. Miami

WEST
1. LA Lakers
2. New Orleans

EAST FINALS: Cleveland vs Boston

CHAMPIONSHP: Lakers

MVP: Lebron James...I despise the criterea they use for MVP. My MVP would obviously be Kobe, followed by Wade in 2nd place, but the NBA uses a strange system and I hate it.
ROOKIE: Derrick Rose...Overall, the most exceptional rookie out of this exceptional rookie class. LOL.
COACH OF THE YEAR...Stan Van Gundy. I don't think anyone expected him to be doing it big the way he has been with Orlando.
MOST IMPROVED...Marquis Daniels. Was having a career year and posting up all-star numbers before going down with the injury.
6TH MAN...Lamar Odom. Does everything, including all the intangibles, as the first dude off the bench for the best team in the league.

if the Lakers were the #1 seed and the Spurs #4, how would they meet in the Conference Championship? Just curious lol

Kobe...I don't think the NBA journalists were ready to expose themselves on that level yet.

so the system will be flawed this year, and every other year that Kobe hasnt won....but last year it was ok right?

I guess the journalists have to get it right once in awhile ;)

But seriously NIK, even you must be able to admit that at the halfway point, Lebron is the most valuable player to his team, due to the fact they are playing incredible bball so far.  THings may change, but at the halfway point, Lebron has the best combo. of individual stats on a dominant team.  Kobe is close behind, and CP3 has RIDICULOUS overall stats as well.  And of course, D-Wade is killing it as well.

NIK, you crack me up man.  How you rationalize your views to us is one fucking hilarious, so I can only imagine what its like inside your own head.  Keep killin it man, you are mad funny

MVP- Lebron (with CP3 and Kobe right behind, then Wade)
ROY- Derrick ROse
6th Man- Jason Terry

And of course its damn hard to predict who will make the finals (although last year was fairly predictable), but i HOPE its the Cavs and Lakers.

Most of us understand that there is no way to rationalize NIK's views on Basketball lol. And no, he would never admit that Kobe wasnt the MVP...even if Kobe sat out the entire season, he would have some retarded reason why Kobe is the MVP lol.

would the NBA ever split the MVP?

they did it with Steve McNair & Peyton Manning in the NFL a few years back.

i mean LeBron would get my vote because he is just putting up ridiculous stats & his team is just beasting at the moment.

but no doubt the Lakers would be in the cellar of the west without Kobe.

going to be a nice race there.

NIK, you said Odom for 6th man?

is Manu not coming off the bench anymore for the Spurs? honestly, i dont know.

if he is, Manu has to get that, imo. but otherwise id throw it to Lamar. ;)

you could say the same for Lebron though, if the Cavs didnt have him....what would their record be? Hell, u could say that shit with most legit superstars. The Spurs have two All-stars other then Duncan....where would they be with no TD?

i was thinking that after i said it & you caught it lol. i didnt mean it the way it came out; i meant it more like Kobe is the MVP of the West lol.

but the NBA gives it to the best player on one of the best teams.

last year LeBron was averaging 30, 7 & 7. :o

crazy stats but no MVP because his team was just ehhh.

but if the Lakers win the West & if the Cavs win the East, both with similar records who do you give it to? ???

tough to say, a lot of ifs in that scenario anyways.  The East has 3 teams who can legitimately win the conference so Id say the Lakers have a better shot at winning their conference. However, from top to bottom the West is more competitive...so theres a better chance that the Lakers will end up with a worse record then whoever wins the East.  Id say, if you cant decide between Lebron and Kobe, then fuckit....give it to Duncan. He could find room on the fireplace for another MVP im sure....lol  ;)
