Title: Nas Guests On 'Detox' But Mum On Next Move
Post by: Meho on February 02, 2009, 03:01:05 PM
Nas
February 02, 2009 12:30 PM ET
Gary Graff, Detroit
Nearly seven months after the release of his Grammy Award-nominated album, "Untitled," Nas says he's just "chilling out" these days, "trying to get myself together creatively [and] just [keeping] my head all straight to figure out what the next move is."

That said, the rapper tells Billboard he's put down a few ideas for new songs on his Blackberry and that he has "a couple of special things up my sleeve that should be unveiled in the next few weeks." That's about all he'll say about them, although he promises that one of the projects "is history."

After guesting on records by Young Jeezy, the Game, DJ Khaled and Keyshia Cole in 2008, he has a couple of other features lined up for the new year -- including a shot on Dr. Dre's "Detox," whenever it comes out.

"I did a joint. I think it's crazy," Nas says of working with Dre. "He's someone I'd love to do a whole album with one day. He's incredible. I think he's the best producer of all time."

Nas is up for two Grammys at the Feb. 8 ceremony in Los Angeles, including best rap album for "Untitled." "In all honestly, the fact that hip-hop is even at that stage now, for a guy like Lil Wayne to even be nominated for the best album Grammy and me to be nominated, it's just a blessing," he says. "Whether I win or lose, I'm happy hip-hop made it that far."

I'd MUCH rather hear Nas, Jay-Z, Rakim & Busta, than Kurupt rhyming "OG" with "DPG" and "DPGC" for the 5653th time.. let alone Daz.
Xzibit, MC Ren, Ice Cube, Snoop, Game, Nate, Bishop should be mandatory though.. and preferably some Knoc.

i dont want to hear diddy or jay-z on it, but i don't know how yall could possibly have a problem with nas on it. as nas himself likes to brag, he was the first ny rapper fuckin with dre and was even signed to dre at one point as a member of The Firm (yes they didn't accomplish much but history remains)

I could give a fuck who is on Detox as long as they can bring heat.  I know Nas can come correct, I know 50 can come correct, I know Em can come correct, I know Bishop can come correct, and I know Knoc can come correct.  The priority is that they do come correct.  So if it be a major artists or an unknown, I don't care as long as its heat.

Game made the closest thing to a 'Detox' album when he dropped "The Doctor's Advocate" that album was straight fire.  And to those of you who say leave Daz & Kurupt off, that "Bang" track was a pure banger that he dropped with The Game.  "The Doctor's Advocate was the closest to a west 'detox' album it looks like we're gonna see.  I think The Game should just drop Detox as a double album and do another album like 'the doctor's advocate' style beats and throw eastwood, young keno, roscoe, ya boy, and jay rock, dogg pound, too short, ice cube, e-40 and dj quik on there.

50 and EMs albums have to come out before Detox, so we are looking at a fall 09 release for detox without any delays, so we should really expect detox to drop summer 2010

I mean, lets be honest, this guy is pure pathetic.  He leads people in so many different directions and plays games with peoples careers (i.e. Rakim, Stat Quo, Hittman, The Game, Six Two, Knoc Turnal, etc.).  That's why The Game just said fine if you don't wanna work with me on my third album I'm not gonna wait ten years for a beat that's not even promised to be top notch and Game said in that interview he may possibly never work with him again.

Dre has changed directions too many times on this project -- in 2004 it was supposed to be an album similar to "Dr. Dre 2001."  In 2005, it was supposed to be a concept album where the characters rap a music play.  Then later it was changed to other rappers rapping over Dre beats in his eyes (i.e. Crooked I "Say Dr. Dre" track).  Then, it was supposed to be an album not about 64s or smoking weed because in his words, "that's played."  Now, it's looking like his guest list is Lil Wayne, Nas, 50 Cent, Eminem, Warren G, R Kelly, Jay-Z, and Kanye West.

Dre has avoided an entire generation in Hip Hop because of his slowness.  I'm going to treat this album like I treated "Say Hi To Tha Bad Guy" -- move on and forget about it.

like i told ya'll b4 Detox isn't coming out until the order of BISD, R3Lapse, then Detox.  Detox means you aint gettin shit no matter how bad you want it.  Get Dr. Dre outta your system.  That's the whole concept.  You keep wanting it but can't get it until you just give up on it... Detox.  It's like a crack addict album, you start off smoking (the chronic) then it gets heavier (chronic 2000) then you decide to quit *detox*.  i'm not sure if I'm explaining it correctly but that's how I'm thinking it goes.  After all if Dre woulda released an album in 2005/2006 wat would he have had to lose?? He was already at the top, people were STILL buying records and the game still had a wide open lane for something fresh and hardcore.  but i c wat you're saying about playing with people's careers, maybe they didnt want to release an album in the first place?  after all, it's not like any of those artist actually needed Dr. Dre with the exception of Stat & Game (when Game 1st came out).  Hitt, 6, and Knoc already had enough buzz at the time from when Dre dropped 2001 (and plus Hitt's album got leaked anyway).  And Bishop already had a level underground following.  Detox will come out but it'll be more of an instrumental/poetry rap type of thing I'm assuming, but still that bump we're lookin 2 hear from Dre.  I'm shittin and pissin in my pants just like the next muthafucka is but wait until 50 & Em release their albums then we'll see it.  But maybe he might pull a Quincy Jones and release his best shit when he turns 50, he's always mentioned that in his interviews (Dre is the Q of hip hop).  Even if Dre had Fergie on his album, I'm sure he would make Fergie sound like the most gangstaist, soulful bitch on the market- guaranteed.

it's funny that Detox is still being talked about a lot; i wonder what it would take before people decide to put it to rest

People were buzzin and talkin about Crooked I's album on and on for about 3 years in total, then when the point was kinda driven in that this album wasn't going to drop, people grew a high level of disdain towards Crooked I for misleading the fans that he had and he lost a lot of his true fans because he failed on his promises over and over again for years.  There's a point where you cross with even the most loyal fans when you fail to deliver on releases for a long period of time and the artist loses major credibility.  Dre's window is almost closing as anticipation grows into frustration..the next step is disgust.  This album will be looked at just like "Say Bye To The Old Guy" was for Crooked I where people will give up and it will tarnish his image completely.  People are going to look back on this and say that he was scared to drop it and it makes him look even worse because a lot of his so-called ghost-producers have moved on and he has just failed over and over again with these themes he has been promising like the musical play then it was characters rapping through his eyes, then "no rapping about 64's and blunts," then it was "were doing something new with live drums."  What is it next week? Is Tiger Woods going to be rapping on it pretending he's Dre.  I think the casket lid is being slid over the top of this project and the nails are being driven in as we speak.  If he doesn't drop a single within 6 weeks, or around Spring Break, it's pretty much over with the majority of fans.

I've finally come to realize that Detox isn't even a real album.  It was created by the Aftermath marketing department as a ploy to keep the fans tightly wrapped around their fingers and to keep the fans' attention tuned to Aftermath.  People like me are finally starting to realize that the myth of Dr. Dre's Detox album has been used to fool people in the same way that George W. Bush used the myth of Iraq having weapons of mass destruction to keep people supporting him and his administration.  However, eventually people caught up to the lie about Iraq having WMD, and people are now finally starting to realize that Detox has been a lie all along as well, starting with me.

Aftermath, fucc you for lieing to the fans for the past 10 years.  And you too Dr. Dre.

I've thought that too that maybe it was just a ploy to keep his name out there and to stay relevant, but I don't know. Stat Quo said that he has to release it otherwise he'll have to pay a lot of money back to Interscope.

i've read through the most recent pages of that thread. seems like scarves is some kind of insider, comes through with a lot of studio pics of dre and the crew. they posted some pics saying that dre + mike elizondo + mark batson are for the first time ever gettin down on some stuff together and its insane.

the most recent pages going on about some recently made beat which is apparently incredible and better than anything before, the ultimate banger. it will definitely be on detox, blew out some of the speakers in the studio and even dre is completely chuffed with it :0

who knows if that's true but it does sound pretty awesome!

well it seems like since this info has got around to us he's deleted every post he made on that forum and fled. my only assumption is that whoever was posting (mellowman/whoever) really dislikes the people on dubcc. why did he leave here in the first place? wasn't it something to do with too many haters/people accusing him of being a phony or some shit.

judging by those pics and stuff dude was a very real insider. shame he got all butthurt at people from here finding out about it all.
