"You could take all the derby matches in the world and put them together and they still wouldn't equal one-millionth of the Old Firm. There's nothing like it."
Paolo Di Canio

coming from a man who has played in Milan, Rome, Sheffield and London derbies in his time.

Shite game to be honest, although in my bies opinion it is impossible to witness a good game against that mob, as they are the most depressingly negative team on earth. Ask Sporting, Fiorentina, Barcelona, Werder Bremen etc supporters and they will tell you the same thing. We'll still win the league at a canter.

we have 80.000 people on more than 1 game per year, so what :P Btw how can you share a stadium with your arch enemy ???

Fact is, the Old Firm has a really long tradition, also because of the religious conflict in the past, which makes it pretty much the biggest derby in Europe.

I think you may take soccer just a little bit too serious if you have rivals.

are you serious? Besides the fact that no real football fan would call football 'soccer',  I bet you only say that because AZ is not important enough to have a rivalry with another club. Derby's are everything man, it gives the whole thing a little spice. Even if your team plays a shitty season, you can make up for it with a derby win.
One of the best moments in life for every Dortmund fan was when we ruined Schalke's first championship after 49 years in 2007 , which means we could celebrate   50 years without a title for Schalke last year. It was game 33 out of 34, Schalke was first with two points ahead, we was 10th or sth. like that, and we beat them 2-0 at home.  I'll never forget the joy of seeing all the Schalke fans crying

Let me explain it this way: We both know the biggest joy for you Dutch guys would be if you beat Germany, but we both know that won't happen. :D

3 points:

1 - What do you consider to define a "big derby"? For me it's not just the fact 2 world football greats are playing because you would consider man utd vs real madrid a derby.

2 teams from the same country? For me el classico fits into this veign. It's really only considered a derby because the clubs are both very successful. A derby in my opinion has to be 2 teams with varying histories whether it be politcal or whatever. As sad as it may be I think a derby is only a derby when it's "more than football". Prime example - Roma vs Lazio.

Honstly, Derby della Capitale >>>>>> Derby della Madonnina

And hence why Celtic vs Rangers is a "bigger" derby than most in the world if not all.

2 - what did you mean about the wall? I don't understand what you were getting at, prolly a dialogue issue.

3 - yeah Celtic and the monkeys are both extremely wack at the moment but derbies aren't really about watching 5-5 classics are they? :)

Who cares if it's the biggest derby?

Quite a question coming from a guy who posts up a thread every time the wind blows.

Who cares indeed.

And Mauzip, we've been over this before. Yes we obsess about football because we are born into it. I wouldn't give a flying fuck if you had an obsession about windmills. How many people have been killed in America through the blood and crips? People killing over land they don't own. Obsessive? People are born into that but I wouldn't judge them for it.

I'm glad I have something in my life that I am passionate about and I will be that will until the day I die, I'm certain of that. I certainly won't be embarrassed about hating Rangers and everything they stand for as an establishment and as a football club.

He's not fortunate enough to support The Rangers

He's a fan of Celtic

Our first half performance was exceptionally poor yesterday.  2nd half was a better performance by us and IMO the better team, 2 very good saves from boruc in 2nd half.

Poor performance from the ref and don't know how he only managed to play 2 minutes of stoppage time.

Lol, yeah real unfortunate.

Anyway, back to reality. Rangers dominated us yet again, shame we didn't jam it like at mordor last time. However Boruc really only made one good save and that was from a Celtic player. Boruc should never be conceding that header from Weir any day of the week. The best chance of the game fell to Scott McDonald and based on that rationale alone it could be considered that Rangers were fortunate to get a draw from the game, a draw no doubt 90% of Rangers fans are happy with.

As I said, Rangers dominated in the 2nd half and Celtic actually couldn't get out or build any kind of substantial attack. It was frightening actually.  Fortunately I think the league will be won and lost at places like Tannadice and Pittodrie and I think Celtic will drop less points than Rangers in the end.

Yeah Weir is still playing, and I wouldn't be shocked if he was given a new contract at the end of the season offering him the chance to play on for another year.

'Glasgow' was never a part of our name.  When founded we called The Rangers, the Glasgow part is something that has came more to the fore over the last 20 years or so.  Must admit that I prefer The Rangers to Glasgow Rangers, only reason I could give is so that we aren't confused with any other clubs called Rangers, such as QPR.

I'm not happy with the draw, as I thought that you's were there for the taking on Sunday.  Think that the majority of Rangers fans had the opinions that Smith would try and play for the draw, with the 4-1-4-1 formation, and try and sneak the win.

Yeah I also think that the away games shall be the important games over the next 13 games or so, its going to be close again this season which is why i'm confused that Smith was happy with the draw.  After the previous old firm game at Ibrox, Smith was insinuating that we had to win every game left, and we have since went to the aberdeen & celtic and set out for a draw in both games

Couldn't face this thread until now....Forever the optimist i still think we will win the league, Rangers wont win all of their remaining games and celtic will. I have absolutely no idea why Mcgeady was dropped for somone who has played 2 games this year, when the last few Old Firms Mcgeady has had the beating of pretty much the entire hun team.

We had pretty much all the possesion (Am i imagining it or was it 70 - 30 in Celtic's favour?) just couldn't put the ball in the net, and unfortunately for us, we dont have Iniesta. Lost a sloppy goal on the break and couldnt score. Fair fucks to Bougherra, had JVOH and Skippy in his back pocket, which is a horrendous state of affairs.

I'm not a fan of Murray but thats harsh, even for a celtic fan.

Thought that we sat too deep in the second half on Saturday, seemed to be one of those days that celtic could have played all day and not scored.  We should have had the game wrapped up with Boyd scoring when he broke through.

Yeah you were imagining that it was 70-30 in your favour

Not a bad shout to be honest lol, always feel we have a chance at home against the old firm, seem to step our game up which is frustrating

Where the league is headed could lie in our hands
