Title: I just bought an Xbox 360
Post by: Low Key on February 26, 2009, 12:36:26 AM
Against my best judgement, I decided to spend some of my refund to get another gaming system after not having one since 2003, except now I feel so out of the loop, there is no drive for me to buy games. Everyone else has already beat the games and earned tons of points online, I just think it would be ridiculous for me to start playing those older games now. So, what are some just released or upcoming games I should keep my eye out for? Preferrably first person shooters.

Call of Duty 5 & Gears of War. 8)

if you like sports games, i would recommend to buy Madden this summer when it comes out & NBA 2k9 usually comes out October.

Yeah I bought World at War when I got the system because the included games Lego Indiana Jones and Kung Fu Panda weren't doing it for me. The online play is great, but on the main game, for some reason I can't get past the first level. It's way different than the other Call of Dutys. Cool graphics though.

Is Gears of War new? I thought that has been out for a while.

^i am pretty sure it came out around the same time as COD5, but that game is sick; it may look bad at the start, but the game is addicting.

not to mention the main single player game is unbelievable & better than COD5.

lol, for the first level, i dont know what difficulty your on, but just stay kind of back & let some of your squad kill some of your enemies & throw a lot of grenades.

but i dont know what to tell you because it gets MUCH harder than that. :P

It's on easy. lol

I can't seem to throw back grenades for some reason. And now I'm stuck at the part where you need to puncture the gasoline barrels in the back of the truck and send it towards the encampment. After the truck blows up, the sergeant keeps yelling "get back over here" even though I'm right next to him killing fools. I suppose I'll figure it out one day. I bought it more for the online and split screen modes.

afro samurai is a pure delice, try the demo on the live you'll love it
dead space is a bad ass scary game with nice graphics i suggest you try it if you're into horror survival games
left 4 dead is one of the best online experience i ever had
gears of war 2 is spectacular and the solo and coop experience is real fun
battlefield bad compagny and call of duty 4 are more classic in their live approach but still excellent
i dont like call of duty 5

some games are good but not enough to buy because of their longevity, i suggest you rent mirror's edge, far cry 2 and grid ridge racer

some upcoming games will probably be worth the tryout like resident evil 5, i played the demo and thought it was looking great it should be fun

You should also get gta IV, maybe it's a bit old but the extension i which you play a biker is worth the price of the 2 games.

I appreciate the input. My friend has Resident Evil 4 for the Wii and that was good, so I'll have to give #5 a look, as well as all of those other games you listed.

I never thought I'd say this though, but fuck GTA 4. I played it a little bit at a friend's house and it's great, but I can't get into a game that has already been used and abused by millions of people. It's like being the last guy in a gangbang. There just isn't any enjoyment. lol

i dont understand how you can say that, i don't see the point. BUt the extension of the game just came out 1 week ago so it's not like it's used, and you can borrow your friend the game and just pay the 15$ for the extension which is way better than the original game, a lot more violent 2

I guess it's just my personality. I don't like to be the last one to be up on things so I just ignore it. I'd have to beat the game before I downloaded the expansion, and that would take a while, so it would be old news by the time I got around to it. The prospect of buying it when the price drops to $10-$20 is always there though. I enjoy saving money everyone else didn't.

if you just got a box the first gears of war can be had for next to nothing - well worth it. if you've been out the loop for gaming i'm not gonna recommend no 60 hour + epics cause i find those kind of games hard to get into myself these days. ridge racer 6 is the shit - well old so again can be had for next to nothing and a great racing game. halo is good for online multiplayer but the campaign sucks balls.

I haven't been totally out of the loop, per se, since I'm going to college for IT stuff and eventually want to make video games of my own. I used to have a PS2 back in the day about 5-6 years ago until I borrowed it to someone and they ended up dropping a TV on it. I know a little bit about the next gen consoles like specs and whatnot, I'm just not up on the games. If Gears of War 1 is $10 or under, I'll definately check it out.

i really dig the concept, i play it with my friends , you don't need to be so great at the start, it will up the challenge of the whole team. One of my friend didn't like it, because of the graphics and the lack of realism.

Where'd you get your 360. I know I'm in Burnsville, and the Circuit City here still has quite a few at about 175 for the middle system. I'm still thinking about getting one. I got the Wii 'cause my wife and I have fun with it, but I've got that itch for a real gaming system. I especially want NBA 2K9, it looks ill as hell, and Street Fighter 4.

I live in Eden Prairie so I just picked one up from the Best Buy right by the EP mall. I didn't even think there were any Circut City's still open around here otherwise I definately would have got it there for $175 instead of the $300+tax. The Wii is good fun though. My friend got one, but the only game he has that is any fun (to me anyways) is Mario Kart. I had to get a regular system because there are hardly any shooters for the Wii. I was debating whether or not to get the PS3 because Killzone 2 is supposed to come out next week and the first one kicked ass, but I decided against it.

yes fight night is a lot of fun 2 players but single player gets boring quick. you could find it used for under 10 bucks probably though

i liked it, it was sick at first; but just got old REAL quick. :-X

lmao, what did your freind expect? a realistic zombie game? :P

but i agree with him on the graphics aspect, they were pretty shitty & looked almost rushed, they could do a better job with those if there is a sequel.

left 4 dead xbox version aint really shit compared to the pc one. you gotta use a controller where instant reactions and accuracy is key, so that's already a fail. plus, the graphics on the console version really suck compared to it maxed out on the pc.

not evreryone likes to invest 500$ in the last graphic card every 6 months and in a cpu every year. fuck a pc really, i got tired of the programmers no optimmizing there product to make money to the hardware suppliers. I dont care anymore about the games that comes out on pc, crysis is the best exemple of what im saying. the game been out for a year and nobody can run it in high def still.

I just bought a baller ass computer in December and Portal is choppy as hell on it if the graphics are set on anything other than low. Albeit I'm running Vista, but the OS doesn't affect a game that much. Playing online games smoothly requires a computer worth two house payments.

graphics cards don't go out of date that fast. there's a lot on the market right now that will provide plenty of futureproofing. i got an ati 4850 which is great price/performance ratio card. can play any game fully maxed out (including crysis) with high framerate. my pc itself is over 2 years old.

Low Key what graphics card did your PC come with? if it was a top of the range machine 6 months ago i don't see any problems running any game out today fully unless it came with an underpowered graphics card. cpu should be 2.6ghz dual core or higher ideally and for vista - 4gb ram as a minimum.

It's an NVIDIA GeForce 7100/nForce 630i. Apparently, my performance tester on Vista says it sucks, so I guess I'll have to get a new one. It's not the RAM. Vista only requires 1gig of RAM, even with Ultimate, and I have 3gigs. VirtualBox runs Windows 7 smoothly while I search the internet and run my gadgets on Vista at the same time.

you can get 3 xbox or a ps3 for the price of one graphic card

yeah its the graphics card why your gaming performance is so poor, thats all. like the vista ratings say. a geforce 9800gt (if on a budget) or ati 4850 (more futureproof) are both very reasonably priced cards that would give plenty of gaming power 8)

I checked newegg.com for prices, and both of those are so far out of my range. $200+ to play a $20 game isn't worth it to me. Even the 512MB cards with the GDDR5 memory type is upwards of $150. I'll just stick with flash games and Diablo. Does anyone still play on battle.net? lol

Damn, that sucks.

Microsoft always seem to release half finished products. Their OS's consistantly suck for the first year or two until they make patches, so I assumed the same would be true for their gaming systems. I'm glad I waited a couple years.

Can anyone tell me about the rechargable batteries and charging station? Does it work well? My controller started disconnecting in the middle of a game and I can't be having that.

hey low key is that controller disconnecting problem with the 360? i started getting it a lot with both my controllers and finally figured out why it was doing it. hella annoying, nothing to do with the batteries either. just a bad design flaw in the way the battery pack attaches onto the main part of the pad being slightly loose sometimes. i used a bit of selotape to secure down the battery compartement tightly and the pads have been 100% since then.

the problem drove me up the wall for ages.

Funny you say that because I put a piece of tape on in after I put in new batteries. 8)

This is why I hesitated to buy a 360. I'm glad I did, but you don't see the PS3 and the Wii having such widespread problems.

what's new with a jasper 360? smaller gpu now?

Smaller GPU, 150W power supply, and 256MB on board flash memory.

nobody else seemed to have the controller prob as much as me although i've seen them 'randomly' disconnect at other people's houses too. both my controllers are black maybe it isn't such an issue with the white ones for some reason. really bad design though.

I got one charging kit for my 2 controllers. It takes a couple hours to charge, but you can play at the same time, it's usb connectivity. Works great for me. You can play for 40 hours i think with one charge. The controller is also telling you when to plug it before it disconnects. You can see the green led flash in a round scheme on the controller, when you hit this button you can aslo see the power left in your battery

Have no prob with the controllers. I like the shape and the disposition of sticks, it fits well in my hands. I think the ps3 controllers are too small, and the buttons are too close. I guess i'll get use to it once i buy my ps3

its the little metal connector on the pad that connects to the battery pack - real nightmare. i guess most pads are ok but i've certainly seen the random disconnecting on a variety of controllers. very bad design.

the ergonomics of it are a different kettle of fish though...
