Title: Fits who is winning the NL East this year??
Post by: S P I C E on March 07, 2009, 01:32:46 PM
This is the division race that will be most intriguing this year IMO, how do you like the Mets chances Fits?? I think it will be great race all the way till end with Mets and Phills but I can't really predict which team will be better, I keep flip flopping LOL, should be fun though.

Phillies will win it.  The Mets have choked away the playoffs two years in a row and they are bringing back the same exact team.  They are one JJ Putz injury away from having the same pen as last season.  And I know every team has question marks but the Mets have way too many.  Luis Castillo is still on the team.  The Corner OF positions are huge question marks.  Can Church bounce back from the concussions and is this kid Murphy for real.  YOu know Delgado won't duplicate his second half of 08 performance.  They have one lefty in the pen.  Will Mike Pelfrey continue to improve this season of will he suffer from the Verducci effect.  Can Big Game Maine bounce back from the injury.  To be honest if they Marlins young pitching turns out to be for real I wouldn't be surprised to see the Fish finish in 2nd over the Mets.

But take my opinion with a grain of salt b/c I always expect the worst from the Mets.  But I just don't feel confident going into this season.

Damn I forgot about this thread.  I really like Church but I forgot about the concussions, I see what you are saying about Delgado though, it is hard to see him doing what he did in the 2nd half again this year but then again he is Carlos Delgado and we all know he is more than capable to put up numbers like that.  Fits you said that you guys are 1 JJ Putz injury away from the same pen as last year but what about K-Rod?? You  have to be stoked about having him, I was actually shocked that there wasn't a huge market for him and the Mets were able to acquire them for the price that they did.  It is going to be a great race and I still cant decide who I am picking LOL, I cant imagine the Mets collasping again like they did last year but then again I said the same thing going into last season.  Both teams look great and I think it will be an amazing race till the end.

Phillies will NOT win it  (unless Hamels wins 20+ games)

The Mets had Wags until early August last season, so if Putz goes down it's like the same team.  Since I last made that post I have gained more confidence in the Mets but it's still the Mets so I can't get my hopes up too much.  But Left Fielder Daniel Murphy is going to be the real deal though.

And btw watch out for the Marlins, if there young pitching can stay healthy they can be very scary.  And even though the lost some players in the off season, that offense can still rake.  I think the fish will finish third now but if things go right the Marlins can be a dangerous team.

^^Yeah I don't know as much about the Marlins as you but everyone is talking about how good their young pitching is gonna be and we all know how great Hanley is.

Phillies are interested in Sheffield now that Detroit just released him, I would pass on him if I were Philadelphia

Sheff is a DH, but earlier in the off season the Phils considered Moises Alou.  I think they are just looking for some RH pop off the bench.  I think Sheff is done though.

I doubt the Mets will blow it three years in a row, I really thought the Phils overachieved last year too.  I think the Mets take the division this time.
The Fish could surprise again, they are the dark horse.  I might even put a little on them at +4000 to take it all.
